Setup "argued" with me, but when it finally responded, setup was easy.
My two stars come from the slow and inconsistent response times. Anywhere from one second - which is great - to as long as five or six, which is not. My border router (Apple TV 4K gen 2) is about 15 feet away, and this was the first device. So, it is not a traffic issue; it is just slow. I am taking the two I bought back to Best Buy and will find another brand.

I have been a long time Wemo user and loved there products. I have to say this has been the worst experience I have had. Purchased this product as I was thinking it’s going to. E flawless like the other 8 I own, I was wrong.
Took some time (45 minutes of factory resets) for me to get it setup and finally registered with HomeKit. All registered and was thinking I am I. The clear. I was wrong. About 80% of the time the product is not communicating with HomeKit and I have to reset it again. I also never switched over to thread protocol and the only way to get it to sometimes work is when it’s connected to Bluetooth.
I purchased two identical ones and both have the exact same issue.
Product is being returned and I am going to a competing product.

Certainly not what we had in mind for your product experience. The Wemo Plug with Thread is a Thread device as well as a HomeKit-compatible product. If the plug cannot detect any other Thread-enabled devices in the network, it will default to a Bluetooth connection (which is slower). Returning. I have lots of the OG Wemo plugs that work great with HomeKit, and show up in the app, etc. These suck: You can set them up, they work, etc....but they never appear in the Wemo app - even though they tell you to use the Wemo app (The app never sees the device after setup). It does appear in HomeKit, and works - for about a day. ...then you are in HomeKit "No Response" hell.....until you completely factory restore the plug, set it up again, then you get another day or two.....Awesome! NOT. I do have an Apple TV 4K latest gen that does Thread......but these things never worked consistently. Bye bye Wemo! BTW - I REFUSE to call their support - I have done it in the past - TOOK FOREVER....nope. Very disappointed. Thread tech stinks.

I ordered three of these smart plugs. They worked exactly as intended, but after a month of usage my power bill more than tripled because of them. I had to stop using them immediately. Poor product and Wemo was of no use in rectifying the issue either.

Dishonourable Mention: A Product of Virulence

Through our corporation's lengthy testing and review process, the WeMo product line has been discovered to possess inunmerable flaws; particularly, when the smart plug was actively breached upon evening 67 of a 90 day durational examination. Utilizing such a device, at least within its present form, fully permits malicious actors upon the most hardened of networks.
When brought to Belkin's attention, the WeMo division - a sole, minute teachnological team - were remarkably difficult in communication. Moreover, and of a vital nature, Belkin refused to honour the item's warranty.
We are actively engaging with TP-Link, and the company's Kasa line of products, at this juncture; such maintaining to be a wise alternative, thus far.
