Fridge did not make it 5 years!

4.5 years later an my refrigerator is not working, and is in need of $600+ worth of electrical panels and components. How could that possibly be the case for a refrigerator that is less than 5 years old? I'd love to say I am the only one with this issue, but unfortunately according to the service tech there is a repair bulletin for this model which tells me that many customers have faced the same problems. Disappointed to say the least, Whirlpool needs to do better!

Cannot really give an honest review of the unit because we purchased an open box item. Had the unit delivered and when they tried to connect power, the unit was dead. Had to go back to the store and pick out another fridge. Learned my lesson about buying open-box items, especially appliances.

I won this fridge from the Sugar bowl last year

I won this fridge from the Allstate Sugar Bowl "Mayhem sale" promo last year. I wanted to give my input to help others in the buying decision since I've owned it almost 8 months now. Besides being absolutely gorgeous, it has some nice features. For starters, it's a french door, so you can store stuff easier with the adjustable shelving. The ice maker is a little small, but you can choose fast ice and refill rather quickly. It has an amazing amount of freezer storage. If you are looking at this in the store, the freezer may seem small, but trust me it is not. The pizza storage is nice too, but usually only fits one pizza. Obviously, since I won this fridge, I am a little biased because I only paid the taxes on it. However, I can say I would have bought it anyway. My only con is that it can be a little noisy. Sometimes it just makes a strange noise after I've had the doors open for a little while and the compressor is kicking in to recool it. I'm not sure if it's this model, or my particular fridge. Either way, I love it.

Brought this unit in October 2015 for our new house. My wife liked the look of it so we got it. No issues with delivery or set-up, but did notice that it was a little loud once turned on. Thought once the house was no longer empty, and furniture was in the house, that I would not notice the noise...Wrong! God this model is loud. It also make funny noises coming from the ice/water dispenser. Speaking of the water dispenser, you have to leave you glass under the nozzle for a few seconds because water continues to drip down after you remove it from the push lever. Also the same is true with the ice; continues to fall seconds after the lever is released (not really a major issue it is just annoying). Besides those few things, no real issues with this product.

I really like how this fridge looks in our kitchen. I was hesitant on getting a fridge with French doors and a bit bigger than our old whirlpool, but the look and space seemed worth it. I do not have any problems with the ice /water dispenser like others mentioned. The water temp is perfect, for me, without any ice. My only real complaint is that it seems to run a bit longer And has a louder buzzing sound that can get annoying, will need someone to come fixed soon! Hopefully that will fix the loud noise.

I was looking for a great fridge at a reasonable price. Couldn't go past this fridge. Lots of room nice finish not noisy at all. I was a little put off reading some of the reviews but really all products have good and bad. I love it.

    Good fridge

Refrigerator is made well and looks great in our kitchen. We did our homework before buying a fridge and we read so many bad reviews about Samsung and LG that scared us away. The best reviews from independent websites listed Whirlpool and Kenmore as the way to go for overall satisfaction. This fridge is spacious, quiet, really good lighting, and good spacing on the shelves. I would buy this again if given another chance.

Loud and died 17 months after purchase

First off, we used to be huge Whirlpool fans. For over 20 years, all of our appliances (washer, dryer, refrigerator, oven, cooktop, and microwave - with the exception of our dishwasher) have been Whirlpool. In fact, the last 2 Whirlpool refrigerators that we have owned were completely trouble free for over 10 years each; we only changed them because we moved. So, we figured why not buy another Whirlpool refrigerator? And, why would I buy an extended warranty with a track record like that? Well, this one worked fine for nearly 17 months. Then, 5 months after the warranty expired; our refrigerator began making a loud noise several times per day similar to a compressor at an automotive repair shop. I emailed Whirlpool twice. No response. After approximately one week from the time the noise started, it became increasingly louder and occurred much more frequently. Now, we could hear it from our upstairs bedroom with the TV on and awoke to a chiming sound (alarm) similar to a car with the lights on or keys left in the ignition. The refrigerator motor had stopped altogether. The internal lights and water/ice dispenser control panel lights worked intermittently as the motor tried to cycle, but the water and ice dispenser no longer worked. So, I called Whirlpool. Since the warranty had expired 5 months earlier, my reward for being an extremely loyal customer and owning multiple Whirlpool products for over 20 years was a bill for $356.95 to get a new 1 year warranty and to repair the refrigerator (parts/labor). Plus, they could not get anyone to my home to repair the refrigerator until the next day. Bottom line: This model (WRF736SDAM) is best suited to be an anchor. I don’t recommend it… Whirlpool quality isn’t what it used to be.

Love the french doors. I had a side by side before this and I find myself forgetting that I now have two doors that I can open. I guess I'm going to have to get used to it. The size is great, much bigger than my old refrigerator and I can see it working out great for the holidays or parties when I cook trays of food. I had read some negative reviews on the water and ice dispenser but so far no issues. I've only had it for a couple of weeks so hopefully I won't have any problems in the future.

    Good refrigerator, horrible compressor

This is a good refrigerator. It's spacious, and the design to maximize space/reduce the size of the ice maker adds to the brilliance of the design. The compressor is horrible, though. As other reviewers have mentioned, the compressor is incredibly loud and seems to run forever. I could hear running it in my bedroom, while separated by a flight of stairs and two solid wood doors. We ended up replacing the refrigerator after 4 months of ownership and went with a LG model with a linear compressor. The loss I took was reduced by selling the old one on Craigslist, but the happiness we gained by the silence more than made up for it.

    Best Refrigerator/Freezer I've ever purchased

This has been the best refrigerator/freezer, ever!! The refrigerator part is huge, with several shelves lining the inside of the doors. Drawers are super ample; long one for meats and cheeses and a couple smaller ones for fruits and veggies! The bottom freezer is awesome. There's plenty of space for the many different types and shapes of foods that the typical American family enjoys. I love way the freezer area is sectioned off. The design is perfect in all aspects!!

    Great Frig for Families

Love this frig. Has lots of space and storage, is easy to clean, and the ice and water dispenser are easy to use and don't run as slowly as other frigs we tested and have owned. I love that the freezer is on the bottom as it makes it so much easier and convenient. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is it runs a little bit noisier than I would have expected. (Hint: buy some stainless steel cleaner - it makes the frig easier to clean and will help prevent streaks and finger prints.)

    Refrigerator Does not work

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Long Story short, we purchased this refrigerator. We were told by the guys who came to install the refrigerator to wait 2 hours then we can put things back in the refrigerator and freezer. We waited 3 hours, put things back in the refrigerator and freezer then went to bed. We woke up in the morning and the refrigerator did not get cold and everything defrosted. We came home after work and nothing changed. We then called the Refrigerator sells company and spend over an hour on the phone with a representative from who told us to do a bunch of things. We did and no change. They told us that we can either get a refrigerator that was returned due to a scratch (no details on how big the scratch is) or we can purchase another refrigerator and pay the difference ($500 difference). If not, we would have to wait 2.5 weeks for them to ship another refrigerator to us. We were also asked to call Whirlpool customer service because they can reimburse us for the spoiled food. We called Whirlpool and they told us that they don't reimburse for spoiled food and the earliest they can send a technician out is Tuesday (Almost 5 days). Other than that we were told there is nothing they can do. So I guess my options are wait 5 days for a technician who may or may not be able to fix the problem, 2.5 weeks for a new refrigerators, accept a scratched replacement or shell out another $500 for another refrigerator (Earliest they can install another refrigerator is Monday). It has been 36 hours and still no working refrigerator. I would have given 0 stars (not an option) due to refrigerator not working, bad customer service, lost time from work, lost money from spoiled food, and children with no milk to drink. Be careful buying this refrigerator.

More Noise Than A Refrigerator Should Make

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Bolstered by strong reviews and brand longevity, I decided to go with this Whirlpool refrigerator over several other brands. It has nearly all the features my family wanted: in door ice and water, bottom freezer, slide out interior drawer and more. The touch screen and ice/water are easy to use and the fact that the ice maker is in the door (and not taking up space in the refrigerator) is a plus. The bottom freezer offers excellent dividable storage and even includes a space (albeit somewhat limited) for frozen pizza. However, there is one feature we didn't want that we got anyway: an abundance of noise that seemingly never stops. Let me explain... As soon as we connected the refrigerator it started making a loud hum. This noise would sometimes coincide with the fan running but most of the time the sound would occur on its own...and it almost never went away. I was told by Whirlpool that the sound would continue for a few days until the temperature evened out and then it would be intermittent. So, when the sound continued for over a week, I asked them to send a technician to check it out. The technician recognized the sound and indicated that it was "normal." The humming is the sound of power to the compressor or compressor board. I was told that this is just how it is and that I would have to get used to it. So, we gave it a couple more weeks. The humming happens, and this is no exaggeration, at least 90% of the time. The hum is so loud that when it does pause (usually for no more than a couple minutes), it's VERY noticeable. You may be thinking: “How loud could it be?” or “That’s just the sound of it making ice.” Nope. Not the case. When we sit in our family room to watch TV, we can hear the hum – over the TV volume. When I work in my office, several rooms away, in a quiet house, I can hear the hum. While this may be “normal” operation for this refrigerator, I can’t accept it as normal in my house. Having attempted to live with this sound for about four weeks, we decided to exchange the refrigerator for a different brand. (As of this writing, we have not received our new refrigerator yet so we don’t know if there will be an improvement. We can only hope that there will be.) Despite Whirlpool being a brand that has been around for years and has generally had a good reputation (one of the reasons we went with this brand), I cannot recommend buying a refrigerator that will require the owner to get used to the noise it makes. Something is not right about that.

    Great Buy! Great Product!

I researched all brands and types of refrigerators for months before finally settling on this WP 26.1 CF French door model. I've had side-by-sides in the past and almost got another until I decide to take another look. I'm so glad I did. The space, organization, wonderful freezer and easy access is absolutely wonderful. I have a bad back & was worried about the bottom freezer, but the drawers pull completely out & give me such easy access that it is not a strain on my back like the old side-by-side where I had to bend & reach up inside to get anything. For those worried about the small ice bucket, I find it adequate for our needs. We are retired & use ice all day. If needed, I put it on "fast ice" & it stays full for us. And love the way it comes out so easily. If I need more ice on hand for parties, I found I can keep a large bag of ice in the top freezer drawer - and still close the drawer all the way. So no worries there. I was able to get this great fridge on clearance in a pre-Black Friday sale. The salesman was very courteous & helpful, answered all my questions, & did not try to pressure me into buying something more expensive. Delivery was quick & easy. They put my old fridge in the garage as I requested, but they would have hauled it off for me if I'd wanted. The delivery person carefully unwrapped it, put it together, & explained every function carefully. I was worried the Stainless Steel finish would be a problem, but it is very easy to keep clean. I've had this now for over five months, no problems & no issues so far. The whole experience has been great. I can always depend on Whirlpool & Best Buy.
