Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the convection oven and its ease of use as significant advantages. Many also appreciate the reasonable price and the range's clean design. However, some customers note that the burner sizes are not uniform, potentially affecting cooking. The ease of cleaning is also a frequently cited positive.

I love this stove, I researched for a few weeks trying to find the best gas range without spending an arm and a leg and this one fit the bill perfectly! My only complaint is with Best Buy. Paying to have someone "set up" the range was a waste of money and time.

There are not a lot of bells and whistles with this product, but it does exactly what we need to do and the price is right. We enjoy cooking with this range and the oblong burner in the middle is wonderful for a griddle.

I really like the looks of this one and the burners seem to heat up quicker than my previous stove. Having the bottom rack dip down a little to make more room is a neat idea.

Great for the Price Point, But...

I bought this unit to replace a 10 year old Frigidaire gas unit that I had. After using this for a bit, I don't believe that range technology has advanced nearly as much as this unit professes...performance between both units seems similar in my opinion. There are both great things about this design, and not so great things. The good: 1) Quality: The unit feels exceptionally sturdy, and the knobs, racks, and doors all feel great. Reassuring to have a unit that feels solid in your hands while you're cooking. 2) Cooktop Power: I'm honestly impressed with how quickly this unit brings water to a boil on the big burners, and just how powerful it is overall. I struggled (but adapted) with the weaker power on the old cooktop. Now, I'm finding myself switching small pots to the back burners to avoid burning butter on the lowest settings, etc on the large front burners. 3) The center burner: Love having this feature! I used this this weekend for pancakes on a griddle, and then for making gravy from pan drippings later that evening. Very useful, but not very powerful. I found myself cranking the burner to HIGH in order to get a simmer in the pan while making gravy. 4) Oven Window: Love that the window is so big and so clear...it's a joy to be able to actually see what I'm cooking whenever I want...not just if it's on the center position in the oven. This helps me keep the doors shut while cooking and keeps the temp more balanced. 5) Simple controls: The touchpad was simple and easy to use for set-up and use with the oven, though it has a few more features than I suspect most people are really using. 6) Oven Cooking Space: 3 racks come with the oven, and it is super big. I was very impressed/pleased with the available space. 7) The EZ-Lift Grates: What a great idea! Why don't more brands just stick with 2 grates? This design works great and is super simple. I loathed cleaning my old stove with the ~6 grate sections it had that would skitter around the cooktop. The negatives: 1) Smoke/smell: The first use of the oven, I left it empty but ran it at 400 for 30 mins like they recommended. I had all the doors/windows open in the house and still set off the smoke alarm. Whirlpool should really consider cleaning the units better prior to shipment to reduce this smoke...it was thick, dark, and belched out for over 20 minutes from the vent on top. Very surprising and alarming experience for an all-new appliance. The smoke also has an awful acrid smell to it...not a pleasant thing in a home. The next 4-5 uses of the oven had a tinge of that acrid smell to it, making me wonder if it was affecting my cookies, french fries, etc.... Only now, about 2 weeks later, has the smell abated. 2) Oven Warm Up: I know gas ovens take a while to heat, but get ready for 15-20 minute pre-heats. My other gas oven did it in far less time...this feels excessively long and I often find myself waiting on the oven, which I never did before. 3) Convection: This oven is a pseudo-convection oven. Don't be fooled...the fan only runs once every ~5 minutes for about 15 seconds, then shuts off. I think the intent is simply to balance the heat in the box, NOT to actively circulate air around the oven like I thought. Just feels like a let-down...convection to me means active airflow, not marginal air pushing every now and then. I'm better a better convection experience occurs if you buy a more expensive model. 4) Rapid Pre-Heat: The rapid pre-heat gives the illusion that the oven is heating faster, but I'm not completely convinced. The oven tends to heat quickly thru 300F, but then will hang up at a certain temperature (say 335) for minutes at a time, then lurch up to the final temperature. It may shave off 3 minutes total off the pre-heat experience...hardly a "rapid" experience when pre-heat is taking 15 minutes or more. 5) The touchpad operation: I dislike the design of the touchpad, as it requires you to press firmly to get a response...and you can see the pad flexing under your finger as you press for setting temperatures, choosing bake cycles, etc. This is a situation where physical buttons would work better and maintain an appearance of quality. Watching my entire display panel bow in as I choose different features is disconcerting. Overall, you just can't find a better unit at this price point, which justifies the purchase. But, if the above issues bother you and you have more money to spend, I recommend considering pricier models to resolve them.
