Nice Macine - Initial quality problem but fixed

The reduction in the amount of water is really dramatic. Our old washer was nearly 20 years old so it was a great experience. We went with Consumer Reports in deciding the machine. Unfortunately, the spring (I assume a torsion bar of some sort) that holds up the lid broke. I called the Central Best Buy Number for service which was a pain (one guy was actually pretty rude when I explained to him that I had been on hold, the call was dropped and was transfered and consequently had to REEXPLAIN the situation 3X) and somehow wound up speaking with someone in our local store who said it is ALWAYS better to call the local store in a situation like this since they can simply exchange the machine if they have one in stock instead of "central dispatch" sending out a tech to see if they could fix it. Ultimately the Kokomo Store replaced the washer with one from stock (thanks guys and gals!). MY ADVICE IS TO CALL THE STORE WHERE YOU BUY YOUR EQUIPMENT FIRST before calling the Best Buy Central Calling Center. On the up side, the local sales people and the delivery people were great and we were never down as far as being able to clean our cloths, we just had to hold the lid open.

    Disappointed

Got a great sale price on the Cabrio top loader and loved the large capacity. At first I was SO excited to do laundry (love watching through the glass lid), but was soon disenchanted. My first load snagged one of my work tops. Clothes always came out REALLY knotted up. Drum left white residue on clothes. I do not dry a lot of my work clothes so they needed ironing and spot cleaning after each wash. Had to "select" the softener feature (not a default) every load. Although I understand the concept of low water level, it was not for me, clothes just seemed to be really beaten up. When I washed 2 fleece blankets I watched them rotate back and forth, but half way through the (very long) cycle, I paused and opened the lid: I pulled up on one of the blankets to find they were still DRY in the middle. Also goes off balance with blankets. And the last straw was when it started with a high pitch squeal/whine. Best Buy was very accomodating with regard to returning it.

Decent ascend to new technology for washers

I had tried a rental washer that was similiar to this one, which is why we decided to make our purchase. I have had Whirpool brand washers in the past and I have had them last a long time. This washer started off making the clothes look very bright and we have not changed any of our laundry supplies, but I have noticed the clothes are not as bright. Everyone is pleased with how well the washer performs with the exception to whites are not as bright. We think it has been worth the cost. It does take a long time for a load to finish but overall to date we are satisfied with this purchase.

    Great so far!

We've had this washer for 4 days now and I've done about 10 loads of laundry. So far, it's worked fantastic! We had a front loading washer and dryer previously and the smell that came from the front loading washer if you left the door closed was pretty gross. We selected this Whirlpool model because 1) HE and top loading, 2) capacity and 3) the Cabrio set is a couple of inches taller than all the other washer and dryers which is great for us since we're a tall family. Plus we like the fact that Whirlpool has been around for so long and that their products are reliable. The only thing I don't like about the washer is it does not have a "spin-only" cycle, but I'll survive.

Great H.E. washer for the price, quiet

I have had this thing for about two weeks now and I must say I am pretty darn happy with the purchase. (I did buy the matching dryer also) I am amazed just how much you can put into the washer and love the fact that I do not have to select a water amount anymore. The washer weighs the load and adds just the right amount of water. The cycles I want/need are all there and the another great thing is the drum is not on its side like a front loading washer. Why is that great? Because there is no drip pan (or whatever its called) that you have to empty like a front loading washer, everything drains the way you want. Many people have told me the other washers get a mildew smell after a few weeks. The lids hinge allows you to drop it and it will slowly close, no more slamming! What's not so great? The push buttons on the washer feel like they will eventually wear out and expose the hardware button underneath the covering. The "chrome" look is nice, but again in time I feel it will wear and not look so good. But I saved a bunch over the others which have plenty of plastic, so WELL WORTH IT.

My wife and I just had a baby and who knew she would go through so many more clothes. Our old washer was on it's way out and our taxes came in so we thought we'd go big or go home. This washer has proved itself to me and my wife over and over.

So far this is an excellent Washing Machine

The design and performance of this washer is excellent. It does a great job and the clothes come out clean. We love the large capacity. We have always had a washer with an agitator and were a little concerned about the cleaning ability with the fact that this machine uses alot less water but since we have had it we have not had any issues at all and it does a great job on large and small loads. The design of the control panel easy to use and operate. The machine is also very quiet.

Haven't had very long but has been great so far. I like that we can add the soap and downy at same time and don't have to watch for the cycle to add it.

BROKE DOWN AS SOON AS WARRANTY ENDED

I loved this washer and used it for three years. A couple of months after the warranty expired, the transmission went out and it started spewing oil and water out of the bottom. I would have given it 5 starts until it broke. Now it either will need expensive repairs or replacement. Our last washer, not a Whirlpool, lasted more than 25 years. For the high price I paid for the Cabrio, it should have lasted a long time. In our household, Whirlpool is all washed up.

    Doesn't Clean Well

This is great for families that really do not have dirty laundry. If you want you clothes to smell good and your not hard on them, this washer will be fine. NOT for my family...get down and dirty muddy kids, dog blankets, and such - forget it, my last load of laundry has dirt on the top of the blankets! So sad because WE loved the set :( My last Whirl Pool was AWESOME a front load, this one is going back and we will be exchanging for the front-load, my clothes and dog laundry came out CLEAN! Not with this one :( such a pain to have to go through the hastle of a return :(

    Do Not Buy Whirlpool Cabrio

    Posted .

Research online before you buy. You will notice only good reviews are from people with the machine less than 3 months, after that the performance really starts to fall apart. Clothes are knotted, snagged. Doesn't get kids sports clothes clean at all, have to wash those by hand in sink. Then all the breakage, repairs and arguing with whirlpool about problems. Control board, constant error messages, washer leaks, noisy. Friends would laugh that it sounds like a shuttle launch in my laundry room. No help at all from whirlpool. Glad to report I will be throwing this away tomorrow, wish I could throw it through Whirlpools front window. Have done as much research as I can and am now going to try an LG version not sure I will have more luck but it is one of the most positively reviewed washers. Doing my part to educate people about the Whirlpool Cabrio. Good Luck.

I have had this washer for 2 years. The drum has been replaced, the water pump 2x , the wiring harness, and the computer system. I cant even wash clothes every 3 months without calling for repair. It rolls my bedspread into a ball, and is constantly off balance. I have to constantly rearrange the clothes to get it to wash them . I hate it. In a family of 7, it frays my towels, doesnt get things clean. Do yourself a favor and dont get it for a large family........ Whirlpool has to fix this every couple of months, I bought the warranty....

    Disappointing washing machine

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We had decided to get a top load high efficiency washer, preferably built in the US. This Whirlpool seemed to fit our needs. However, the performance of the washer was disappointing. If all we had been washing were underwear and stockings it would have been OK. But when washing heavier gaments such as denim pants withother items the pants would end up pasted against the side of the drum and not be agitated (almost no water visible in the tub). When the cycle was finished there would be soap granuals stuck to the pants and they would have to be run again to remove the soap. We worked for about 3 weeks re-reading loading instructions and trying differnt setting with no sucess. I returned the washer.

    Worst Washer Ever

bought this washer in 2010 in 2012 a bearing goes out and we had to call in a tech from whirlpool. We are told it will cost $550 to repair it but we should contact whirlpool. I call them and am told "sorry sir there is nothing we can do". So now I have a $1000 washer that needs $550 in repair to work. Everyone buy another washer unless they are offering a lifetime warranty.
