Customers recognize the dishwasher's excellent cleaning performance and quiet operation as major strengths, with many praising how clean the dishes come out and how quiet the appliance runs during cycles. However, some users expressed concerns about the silverware rack design and the length of the wash cycles. The ease of use and ample space inside were also frequently cited as positive aspects. While some found installation straightforward, others noted that the drying performance could be improved.

Run, Don't Walk, Away from this Dishwasher

I purchased this model in November 2012 to replace an existing dishwasher. For the first month, the unit worked well. Then a few dishes started not being clean. Silverware still had food on them. We thought it was the detergent, so we tried a few different brands. That helped temporarily. We tried loading the dishwasher differently, no change. Then, right after the warranty expired, the Sanitize indicator light on the front panel started blinking instead of staying solidly lit at the end of the cycle. The dishes, while never really dry at the end of the cycle, were becoming even less so. A horrible odor started coming from the unit. We thought it was the drain, then we thought it was the garbage itself, before discovering that it came from the dishwasher. The dishes that were clean appeared to be washed, but they smelled terrible. I would have to air everything out. The few unclean dishes became several; 50% to 75% of the silverware stayed dirty. The silverware rack is a terrible design and constantly came apart when lifting it up to empty it. I called Whirlpool, to no avail. So, I called a local repair person who first replaced the heating element, which did nothing to fix the issues. Then he came back and said it was the relay switch, so the motherboard needed replacing. Between the two repairs, it would be near the cost of replacing the unit itself. I now have to buy a new dishwasher. SO disappointed.

Bought this dishwasher to replace a tired and worn out 12 yr old whirlpool that was half rinsing/washing the dishes. So far this dishwasher has been a blessing it cleans and rinses the dishes nicely! It is also very quiet compared to the old one. So, far I am really happy with this dishwasher I just hope it lasts as long as the old one!

For the price this is one of the best dishwashers on the market. Whirlpool still stands for quality. Got it on Presidents Day weekend for a great price plus $30.00 Energy Star rebate...It is quiet, performs well and has all the features you need. Oh and it looks great!!! You wont be dissapointed.

Overall I would recommend this dishwasher for anyone looking for a quiet and easy to use dishwasher.
I had best buy install it and everything was done right the first time with no problems.
As with most dishwashers I've come across, it seems to never get the dishes fully dry, but if you crack the door a little when it's finished it seems to air them out ok.

Poorly Engineered

I like to read product reviews before making purchases; they provide good guidance. If you're reading this review, then you're like me. And you know you have to read these reviews with a certain skepticism. If a reviewer slams a product, it might be justified. Or, it could be overkill due to other factors. (A bad installation job, poor customer service, or simply getting a lemon - an atypical product.)
I hope you find my review to be objective. My dishwasher is working just fine, as the manufacturer designed it - I had a service call. But based on my experience, I would advise you not to buy this dishwasher.
Let me start w/the positives. This dishwasher looks great, it's reasonably priced, it's easy to install and it cleans just fine.
The problems come with the engineering.
First, as other reviewers noted, the silverware holder is clumsy to use. You could attach it securely to the door. However, when the door is open and the holder is nearly parallel to the floor, loading and unloading it is cumbersome. You could remove the holder, but reattaching it back to the door is a pain.
The alternative is attaching the holder to the bottom rack. And protrusions from that rack is designed to support the holder; but not securely. Every once in awhile I'll pull out the rack and the silverware holder will slip off this mounting. I find that really annoying.
Some reviewers, noting this problem, solved it by keeping their old silverware holder. Anticipating this problem, I did just that. And while it fits in the bottom rack just fine, it takes up space I'd rather be using for my dishes.
This problem alone makes me regret my purchase.
However, the holder isn't the only problem. At various stages in the cleaning cycle, it stops and starts, sputtering like an old lawnmower that takes awhile to warm up. My service call dealt with this problem; which turned out, according to the specialist, to be perfectly normal. The "sputtering" is designed to better mix the soap.
Be that as it may, it gave me pause for concern that the item was defective. The offer of an extended warranty mollified these concerns, somewhat.
There's one final problem about this unit - it's more of a petty nuisance, really; but illustrates why I believe it's poorly engineered. After completing the cleaning cycle, a light goes on indicating the dishes are clean. It's a nice touch - some might forget whether they ran the dishwasher. The problem is, the light doesn't go out upon opening the door. It only goes out once the door has been re-closed.
Insignificant? Maybe. The thing is, you're going to want to leave the door open and let it air out after unloading your dishes because the dishwasher is still wet. That's what I do. And every time I see that stupid light still on, it bugs me.
So, the bottom line; if I had known about these problems before buying this dishwasher, I would never have bought it. There are similar units in this price range that don't have these flaws. And I'm sure they also clean just fine. Buy one of those instead.

The dishwasher is quiet and cleans well. I am not as thrilled with the loading pattern, but will eventually figure out the best way to utilize the space.

Great dishwasher for the $$$

I love this dishwasher! I got it on sale for a little over $400, with a special $20 promotion for installation. I was concerned about the noise it would make, considering it was so inexpensive. But, happily, it makes less noise than my old Maytag that just broke. My only complaint is that the top rack is not adjustable. Every now and then, I have a tall cutting board or baking sheet that is too big to stand upright on the bottom. So I have to lay it across the dishes on the top rack.. I would highly recommend this one for anyone that wants a stainless steel front but doesn't want to spend a ton of money.

Overall, I like this dishwasher. It's quiet, and it does a good job of cleaning the dishes. I've had it 1 1/2 years now and the only issue is the door support. They use these little rubber stoppers on the door hinges to keep the door in place and they have broken 3 times. The first 2 times were within the 1 year warranty period. They have broken again now and I'm going to try to find a better way to fix them myself. Other than that, it's a good dishwasher but I'm not sure I would recommend it to anyone...

DON'T BUY INSTALLATION, GET A REAL PLUMBER!

We shopped online then went to the store to buy. We were sold installation for $139.00, free delivery and free haul off of the old dishwasher. When the "professional installer" came to install, he said we needed a plumber to install! Why would would a company like Best Buy send a non-professional out to do a $139.00 "professional install"??? I had to get a plumber and pay $215.00. I'm very disappointed. We were very inconveianced by this! The installer didn't even haul off the old dishwasher. And the sales associate and checkout girl did not offer us a service protection plan. Very disappointed! From now on I'm going to a real appliance store for kitchen appliances.

So far so good! I have been using this dishwasher for about 3 weeks now and I'm liking it very much. I can't believe how quiet it is. I specifically picked this dishwasher because of the silverware in the door feature - now I have 3 rows in the bottom to line dishes and bowls. Plus with the extra height inside the 'tall tub' feature I can fit ALL my pans, serving bowls etc. on the top AND bottom and really fit a lot of stuff!

This dishwasher arrived with the drain pump installed incorrectly. Unfortunately, I discovered this after I installed it and it dumped water all over my kitchen floor as soon as it started to drain water. It took 2 days to get a replacement dishwasher since I didn't want to wait for a replacement seal to be ordered and fixed. The 2nd dishwasher did not dry the dishes at all (even when using the extra drying cycle) and the cycle time was very long. We weren't too fond of the silverware rack on the door either. I returned this one and got GE dishwasher that cost a little more but is much quieter, has shorter cycle times and actually dries the dishes.

We compared a lot before we made the decision to select this one. I guess for the price like this the product is very good. Although there is no timer to tell you how much longer to wait before it is finished, it is still acceptable - because the clean light turns on after the job is done.

I bought this dishwasher based on high reviews. Very disappointed and replaced within a week. Cycle lasts forever (over two hours) for the shortest cycle and the dishes were never dry. Replaced with the Frigidaire Gallery Series and love that one. You get what you pay for. Spend the extra money and get a product that works.

Wish I had spent more money on a higher end model. Not good for folks who cook alot! Doesn't allow any flexibility and hard to load. Dishes don't always come out clean. Best Buy would not let me return and exchange for a higher end model because it was more than 14 days.

Dishwasher broke down 13 months after purchase

It's unfortunate that the whirlpool dishwasher I purchases broke down one month after the warranty expired. The cost for having extended repair service from whirlpool would cost $330. The quality of new appliances are not very dependable and I would recommend paying additional warranty at time of purchase which can be very expensive.

Inefficient to Load

We have this dishwasher in a rental. It works like a champ but is a total pain to load. The flatware drawer is on the door, so when you open the door and pull out the lower shelf, it is under the plates. Just imagine after each meal, as each person in the family brings in their stuff, they have to pull out the drawer to place their plate, then push it back in to put their flatware in the tray. It is incredibly inefficient. Whirlpools are great, just find one that has a more standard design.
