The Gold Standard of Front Loaders

For the price, if you want a front-loader washer than whirlpool duet is probably the best bet for a track record of performance. I've had mine for 2 years and haven't had any problems except a rag got behind the door rubber thing and esaped in to the motor underneath the unit and fried it. So, when you do laundry, be sure to lift the rubber thing up to make sure nothing is there and be certain to wash small wrags together in a little tie bag thing. The water savings are there--my water bill went down about $11/mo. Clothes are washed great and they say there is less wear-and-tear on them. If this is important to you for 4 to 5 times what a standard washer is, then this is the one to get. I would recommend, though evaluating the cost-benefits as I am still evaluating if the cost was justified in actuality vs all the claims of savings.

I love this washer

I bought this washer to replace a front loading eight year old one. I must say that it is amazing. The capacity is huge; just to check I washed 20 bath towels with no problems. The machine is so quiet that I only hear it when the water goes into the drain. I think the clear front is to reassure you that it is indeed working. The clothes come out clean and nearly dry, so the drying time is reduced. I appreciate the number of options that allow you to customize the temperature, load type, etc.

Boy, is my wife happy!

I recently purchased this Whirlpool Duet washer and my wife and I love it! Not only does it do a great job washing, but due to its incredible spin cycle speeds it leaves the clothes just damp when it is done. This significantly reduces drying time. To save a significant ($500) amount of money I purchased a non-Duet 6.5 cu. ft. dryer made by Whirlpool. It dries the clothes in about 30 minutes because the washer does such a great job getting the water out. My laundry room is on the third floor of my house and I had feared the high RPMs of the Duet would shake my house a lot, but this fear quickly evaporated after doing my first load. The only place I can feel any vibration is when I am standing directly in front of it...and even then it is significantly less than my previous Whirlpool top-loading washer. I would highly recommend this washer!

Works well so far

I bought the Duet (both washer and dryer) on the recommendation of an appliance repairman, who said it's the most reliable of the front-loaders and the easiest to repair. So far, both washer and dryer have worked fine. I had one load come out sopping wet, but I sent it around for another spin and it was fine. The manual said that might happen if the load was unbalanced.
I have these on the ground floor above a crawlspace, and while the washer does produce some vibration, it's very tolerable. I didn't buy the pedestals; the repairman said that they contribute significantly to vibration.
I love the delay setting. It's great to wake up in the morning and have freshly washed clothes waiting to be put in the dryer.
Overall, I haven't noticed any improvement in cleaning ability over a top-loader. While it handles large objects like queen-size comforters, it doesn't do a terrific job of cleaning them--at least, not of pet hair.

When my 18 year old Whirlpool died, I wasn't sure what to replace it with and technology had changed so much. I researched everything thoroughly and decided to stick with Whirlpool. I read the owners manual well and followed all their recommendations, bought Tide HE detergent (found everywhere) and haven't looked back. It's been over a month now. Clothes come out in good shape, not tangled. Just leave the door slightly ajar and I have had no problems with smell or mildew--it dries out quickly. My machine is on a main floor over a basement. I've had no problems with "walking" and the machine is very quiet. I am pleased with my purchase. Thanks to all who gave it good reviews that convinced me to buy!

After 24 years we just replaced our old Maytag. After reading Consumer Reports, a Whirlpool front loader was what we were looking for. We chose this model rather than the next model up as there were plenty of cycles on this one and that seemed to be the biggest difference. It actually gets out stains my previous washer could not. Clothes come out drier and save on dryer time. Seems easier on the clothes too. Love the hand wash cycle. No more handwashing in the sink. Have only had it a few months, but so far it is great. Also, with a well and septic tank, it is nice that it uses far less water and electricity. My old washer probably used around 40 gallons and this one around 10 to 12.

I'm a mom of six children, including 3 children ages 4 and under and a pre-teen boy who loves to catch frogs, snakes, and other creatures of the muddy creeks. Before we purchased this washer three months ago, we averaged 31 loads of laundry per week. This washer has cut that amount down to a much more manageable 22 loads per week. Our old washer was HE like this one, but it did not clean the clothes as well, and it definitely could not handle the dirt my son grinds into his clothes. This washer has beautifully handled everything we have given it from baby laundry to wet bed sheets to my teenage daughter's wash-on-delicates-only jeans. It can handle 16 pairs of jeans. I have only ever used the "normal" amount of detergent unless my boy has tons of mud then I just go one notch up. Additionally, our water bill has gone down by $25 a month. Nice. Very nice. The kids even enjoy watching the laundry wash and dry on occasion. Initially, they watched it while sitting on chairs. While I don't do that myself, I can tell at a glance if we have a load in the washer, so nothing gets forgotten overnight and gets mildewy. Following the advice of others, I have made certain to dry the gasket around the front and I have left the door open over night. I recommend the pedestal drawers as well. If you don't have young kids, you can use them for your laundry supplies. If you do have young kids and a laundry closet like me, the kids can sort their laundry in those hidden places, so your hall is not a mess.

The washer has worked great so far. Has a big capacity and is very quiet. There is an odor that comes out of the washer even after it sits empty for a week.

I did a lot of research online and talked to several salesmen and repairmen. It was a difficult decision since I felt like I was choosing between problems. I had narrowed it down to the Bosch 3301 and LG 0264 (I think I got the numbers right) and the Whirlpool 9200.
I choose the 9200 because I liked the user instructions in the manual the best, and the user complaints I'd seen I felt could most likely be addressed.
The washer and dryer and worksurface were delivered this weekend and I gave them a good work out catching back up on laundry. I even washed our bed armor which always gave our old top loading machine fits. It ran so quiet, I was impressed. They are located in the pantry just off the kitchen and often I had to actually walk into the pantry to hear any noise. The bed-armor didn't even cause any vibration or imbalance problem.
I was worried about vibration, so I made sure the installers leveled it properly. I bought a few laundry bags for washing baby socks and other small or stringy items and use HE detergent. I leave the door open to dry it out between uses. I check the gasket around the door and so far have found nothing but a bit of lint or chunk of food that I missed on the baby's stuff.
So far I feel like I made the right choice.

Bought this washer when moved into a new home. Had a Kenmore high-end front loader for about 4 1/2 years in old home and liked it, but it was really loud. Have a main floor laundry off the kitchen, and the noise from the old one drove us nuts! This one is whisper quiet...I don't even have to keep the door to the laundry room closed! Clothes also come out with less water on them, so drying time is reduced.

Incredible Washer & Dryer

I read each and every review of this product and others and compared many products based on performance, cost and use. I was close to purchasing the LG comparable to these units, but learned that unless you are on a solid surface (concrete, ranch etc.) the machine will travel. Something about the suspension. I bought this model and its gas dryer pair because of manufacturer reputation and personal references. Read the manual and understand the machine is step one. My first load was 8 pairs of jeans and it washed in 48 minutes (much faster than my 22 yr old Amana set). The jeans required less drying time. Ours are installed on a second floor laundry closet adjacent to a bedroom. I appreciate the ease of use and how darn quiet they are! I also invested a little more money and bought the laundry worksurface (well worth the money) and the extended warranty because of the electronics. Minor investment for long term use. Feel confident in your choice of these machines. I just love them. I wish I had made the investment sooner.

I have truly enjoyed using the Whirlpool Duet 4.0 Cu. Ft. 10-Cycle Ultra Capacity Plus Washer - White-on-White. Delay wash saves my time during the workweek...a load of wash is done by the time I get home. It is energy efficient, and also uses less water than the older, top load washer models. Great variety of temperature settings...so my varied laundry needs are met. This is the best appliance purchase I've made. In addition, the Best Buy delivery crew was on time, very professional and knowledgeable.

We have been so pleased with this product. It cleans with such little effort. I have wanted one for years and finally bit the bullet. I am so glad that I did! I love to pile the clothes in and watch how little water is actually used. Since we are in the South where a major water crisis is going on, it is nice to know I am doing my part even with laundry.

Originally, I thought I should just have my older washer repaired. It would be cheaper and probably last a long time. I’m so glad I changed my mind. I now have a washer that uses less water, has less vibration, cleans better (in my opinion) and I can now wash my king-size comforters at home.

Bought this to replace an aging pair, and we've been happy with the decision. My wife loves them and that's good. I have to remember to turn the spin cycle down to medium or it shakes too much. Otherwise, no problems at all.

This uses much less hot water, spins the clothes almost dry so we save money on drying clothes as well. The only real complaint is that it wrinkles the legs on my jeans. My public utilities also gave me a rebate for buying it.

Though I really wanted an LG direct drive, Whirlpool changed my mind and I am a satisfied consumer.
I was very concerned about vibration being on my main floor above a basement but the only vibration is when you stand a foot away and it is minimal.
Interestingly, since I started using it my old dryer works better and the lint screen is virtually empty as the washer doesn't beat the clothes to death.
Go for it.

This washer will wash your clothes and is slightly more convenient to load and unload. However, if you do not place the clothes in the washer properly, they will come out all tangled up. Also, because the front loaders must be water/air tight, the clothes will begin to sour quickly so you will have to remove the clothes from the washer almost immediately after the cycle is done or wash the clothes again.
