In the year 2014 Apple released Apple Health, followed a year later with the first Apple Watch. 2014 was also the year my 8 year marriage came to an end and looking at my waistline I realized I needed to put some effort into myself if I was going to have any chance of successfully dating anyone new. I was intrigued with the idea of being able to combine data from multiple sources to present my complete body health. For a few years prior I was struggling with data synchronization between a Garmin GPS watch, Nike+, and an Apple iPod touch with the in-shoe sensor. Early attempts at unifying data streams was a mess as Garmin, Strava, Nike, and Apple all had different definitions of distance tracking and stride length. Apple Health’s promise was to take fitness data and link it to other data sources like weight, BMI, to present a more complete picture of health. At the time I had never owned a scale and decided I wanted to jump into the world of digital weight tracking. On Feb 28, 2015 I purchased a Nokia Body Cardio scale from the Apple Store. The scale never faltered and 8 years in it works as well now as it did when I purchased it.
The Body Comp scale introduces a number of changes from the Body Cardio. These changes include being a thicker scale, which I suspect is due to the change from a rechargeable battery to disposable batteries. Updated sensors and an updated surface design give way to the biggest visual improvement which is a color screen. The scale processes the measurements much faster now though its collecting more data than before.
The real star is the Withings Health App though where Withings has invested heavily in a comprehensive visual overhaul of the entire app experience all designed to help visualize the fitness goals. I’m only a week into the Withings+ experience, which is a new subscription service that powers a lot of the data in the Withings app to provide suggestions. By linking the Withings app to Apple Health the app is able to provide greater insights into your healthy and not-so-healthy habits and help keep you on track for your fitness goals.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about Withings and their products and highly recommend this scale to anyone who wants more out of their body health than a number.

The Withings Body Comp scale has some additional features that you won’t get with some budget scales, however I find that some features are a bit gimmicky and functionality could use some improvements. For the most part, I have seen pretty accurate readings on my weight, but there has been two occasions where I have seen readings off by 10lbs in both directions. This is obviously a noticeable change to know it was incorrect and reweighing immediately after cam back to normal. Having multiple users requires the app for configurations. The manual doesn’t really help with this as initially I did not know who to change users for the weight to get logged appropriately. Fortunately i was able to sometime online that states you can lean on one foot to switch users. I appreciate the fact you don’t have to bend over to push buttons or log onto the app to switch users, however if you have anyone in the family that is close to your weight, both must be willing to ensure they are switching users in the scale otherwise the reading be logged in the account the scale thinks it is. I think this issue is pretty common on smart scales, but still annoying as for anyone keeping track of history and goal tracking they have to monitor their readings on the app and make sure they clear out the wrong ones. The scale does give you additional health readings along with short history directly on the scale to see some trending, but I wouldn’t say it is a huge value add as most of other readings and feeding analysis will be on the app anyways. The app has some good integrations with other health devices and services, which is a plus to see all of you health data in one app. I like that the unit is set up to Wi-Fi so that you don’t have to have your mobile app on for your readings. I have had issues with other budget products with Bluetooth consistently, so this was a nice benefit. Over all the scale looks nice, but has some flaws and the gimmicky features don’t add that much value. I think you can get most of these features on other devices so can’t really say this is a major upgrade from some of those budget smart scales.

Fast reading of data, a lot of online info from their website. My wife and I both like the ease of using it and it is a tool to help us be healthier.

Wow, what a poorly designed product. First, I sent the link to my wife (as prompted) for her to sign up for her own account so the scale could track her progress. However, you have to already have the app and an account for the signup link to work. Which makes no sense.
Also, our scale weighs heavy, but you can’t calibrate it. Withings says thag it recalibrates every time and it’s always accurate. Sadly, I have a 5lbs dumbbell thag weighs five pounds on every other scale but our Withings. Literally nothing they can do to fix it.
Lastly, their help docs are useless because they keep redesigning their app so the menus they reference don’t exist.
At least they have chat support?
