Great movie! Not so great 3d though

The movie itself is wonderful! An absolute surprise that was leaps and bounds above anything else DC has put out recently. Can't recommend it enough. It was one of my two favorite films of the year and I'd give this review a 5 any day of the week if we were reviewing the regular bluray or 4K versions, but unfortunately this is for the 3d option. I'd give the 3d treatment a 1 star. It's pretty poor vs most home 3d experiences and is even more disheartening after watching the Guardians 2 steelbook 3d I purchased from Best Buy a few weeks before. That film set the bar for home 3d viewing. You could tell the love and care they put in to every frame to amplify the colors and make it super crisp and smooth in 3d. Wonder Woman seems the opposite, like it was after thought. The film is slightly dark in picture to start with and flat out dismal in the 3d transfer. Any crispness is lost, any action scene has that terrible 3d clipping and visual echo, and even in still or slow moving scenes there's a bad overlap or ghosting effect. It's really disheartening as this is DC's flagship movie right now. You'd assume they'd pull out all the stops like Marvel. Please do yourself and without question buy a copy of this film, it's wonderful! Just do yourself a favor and get the regular or 4K version!

    There's Hope for the DCEU

Growing up, we had the spinning Linda Carter as the heroine of choice. She could catch shots from tanks, block bullets, and wore the Red, White, and Blue. She was a patriot in one of the campiest series since Adam West played Batman. This isn't that. Gal Gadot brings a hopeful but grittier look at DC's queen of the Justice League. Starting with the defeat of Ares, Queen Hippolyta asks Zeus for a child. She's given Diana. Diana longs to be a warrior like her Aunt Antiope. When her mother gives in to her desire, it starts Diana on a journey that changes her destiny. The whole story keeps the known beats of the Wonder Woman story. Steve Trevor (a spy/pilot) crashes on the island, bringing war to the Amazonians for the first time in centuries and causing Diana to leave the island. From a non-comic book person, it seems to hit all the right notes without requiring people to have read every single comic. Unlike Captain America, Wonder Woman is set in the trench wars of World War I. Instead of fighting National Soclaist German Workers Partys, Diana is fighting proto-National Soclaist German Workers Partys. The uniforms are different, but everything else screams "we wanted National Soclaist German Workers Partys". A story point that hit an odd note was the soldier with battle fatigue (aka: PTSD). Throughout the movie, they drag the character along without much indication as to why except that they needed to fulfill the picture shown in Batman v Superman. It felt a bit out of place. As Diana gets closer to the root evil behind the first World War, can she stop it in time before it's too late? Duh... the answer is always cliche. But the journey there is filled with exciting battles and great acting by Gadot. Gadot brings a childlike quality to Diana as Diana is experiencing the outside world for the first time. This is very well played. While I enjoyed Wonder Woman (2017), I was disappointed in the final reveal. The true evil behind everything (while unexpected) felt lazy. The only thing that would have made it better would've been for Diana to make the big baddy cry "MARTHA" instead of uncle. I would recommend this movie. It's the best of the live-action DCEU movies. While that's not saying much, it brings hope that we might see some good DCEU films despite all the bombs (including Justice League) that have released so far.

    Just okay

Like I said, she is cute... That is about all... Steve Trevor in the nude, and then dies in the end, Wonder Woman would have never let him, and did you ever hear of parachutes?! Come on DC.... Even back in WW 2 had parachutes... And Wonder Woman was a power hungry self serving female until a man showed her how to be a hero?! Women deserve better credit than that.... And the writer made man sex symbol in the movie... Totally sexist... Enough sexist.... men and women are equals, right? Not in Hollywood... But she was cute, who didn’t like seeing her kick some butt in good action sequences, so this movie is just okay... Lynda Carter was a better Wonder Woman, justice league cartoon was a better Wonder Woman... 2002 and unlimited 2004... etc... I think I will wait for others to see Wonder Woman 1984 before I even bother to see it. I recommend you watch before you buy Wonder Woman. I seen it in theaters and bought it on super cheap after thanksgiving day sales.

Gal Gadot! Nothing else to say. Oh, the movie. Well it was definitely entertaining as most big budget super hero movies in today's CGI enhanced genre's. I'm sure this will morph into a trilogy as we are anticipating the sequel slated for 2020. Longer than anticipated but hey Gal Gadot as the Amazon Wonder Woman, it's worth the wait.

This movie was awesome. I thought it wasn't going to be great but Chris Pine and Gal Godot really made the movie something else. It's a great action/adventure, and a little bit of romance movie. Definitely recommend seeing.

    Stay on Mission

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Wonder Woman retells the origin of the famous super-heroine from DC comics and provides the back story to the photograph that Bruce Wayne found in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Diana, who was born to goddess Hippolyta on Themiscyra is drawn into "Man's world" to complete a mission that she believes will bring peace to civilization. Just like all the comic book movies that hollyweird spits out, they took massive liberties with the character and the story. While I thought the special effects, set designs, wardrobe / costuming, and the scenery on 'Paradise Island' were great, I did not like that they changed the time period from WW II to WW I, nor did I appreciate the typical, cliched suicide solution that hollyweird always seems to employ these days as a plot device in movies. I also did not like an aspect of Dr. Poison's methodology for her ultimate weapon. The details should have been explained more, because I don't believe the chemicals they mention would work as shown in a couple of scenes. I felt as if some scenes were completely unnecessary and others should have been elaborated more. While I found it entertaining, I was not wowed or awed by it and will not goo-gahg over it just because it is a super powered female. IMHO, I thought it was better than BvS:DoJ, Man of Steel, the Nolan fake Batman movies, Suicide Squad, Ghost Rider 1 or 2 (and I LOVED G.R.#1), or Daredevil (2003), the Resident Evil movies, or the Fantastic Four movies. I thought it was on par with Deadpool or Blade, Hulk (2003), or Spawn. It's definitely NOT better than any of the Captain America films, nor the Avengers movies. It's not better than Thor, Wanted, Kingsman; the Secret Service, Guardians of the Galaxy 1 or 2, or Ant-Man. I honestly got more out of Ghost in the Shell than I did Wonder Woman. I'll watch it again some day, but I will see Constantine again first.

Gal Gadot is an absolute stunner in this film. The quality is very good and the media production quality is high. No issues at all with picture quality or post production. No strange freezing or banding on the edges either.
