The skill and effort of the people responsible for locating these fantastic color films and bringing it up to todays High Definition media detail has to be seen to believed. It's very sad that as the heros who left their normal peace time lifes behind to endure the struggle to save the world from oppression of the axis powers are silently slipping into their graves meanwhile, some of the very best material has been released in the last few years to give those of us born to late to have any direct part in those times a small measure of what it was like to be there. Deservers a proud place along side other period epics such as "Band of Brothers", Kevin Burns "THE WAR" and Spielbergs "Saving Private Ryan" in showing us just a little peek of what the largest conflict of all time was like.

Great video, but lack of subtitles ruins it

The lack of subtitles on this was an inexcusable oversight by the History Channel. I find it hard to believe that they didn't realize a good chunk of their audience for this release would be the hard-of-hearing elderly Americans who experienced the war first-hand. The actual video quality of this title is superb, and the production is top notch real-life storytelling. But this title is now of little value to my near-deaf Grandfather who actually fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
And for those who don't really believe the lack of subtitles merit this 2 star rating, I point out that The History Channel put this together as a NARRATIVE of 12 individual lives featured in the footage. Without the subtitles, the narrative becomes worthless and this is just another stock footage dime-a-dozen WWII documentary. I still can't believe they spent years putting this title together, but they couldn't hire an intern for a weekend to match the already produced transcript to the images on the screen. For those of you with family or friends who require subtitles, skip this title until The History Channel fixes it.

WWII in HD

This would be a complete series on WWII if not for one glaring error: It totally glosses over what most historians consider to be the ground zero of WWII: The colossal, terrible, desperate struggle on the Eastern Front. Pearl Harbor, Iwo Jima, etc, as bad as it was, were Sunday picnics in the park compared to the battles of Moscow, Stalingrad, Kursk, etc. In the epic siege of Leningrad alone, more people died there than the total war dead of the U.S. and Britain -- combined! And that's just one Russian city. Sorry, but WWII in HD falls short. Still, to this day, the best complete documentary is the World at War series done in the 70s. That series gives you the true big picture of the war.

Complete WWII coverage

This is the most complete WWII video colection of the market period. It was also shown on The History Channel but if you missed any of it, like I did, you need to add this to your collection. It contains real film shot in combat from all different battles, and has several soldiers accounts of what happened. This sounds and looks as good as it can with todays technology.

A fantastic mini series / documentary featuring original color footage remastered in HD. Most of the footage had never been shown on American TV before, and you can tell why: grisly, gruesome footage abounds. Invaluable historical resource though, and a nice collection of information about the war told from the POV of real people.

Whoever produced this Blu-ray disc doesn't know what they're doing ,because it wouldn't allow me to access the menu screen to play it . When I did get it to play it would stop after the promo's were done and it wouldn't play the movie! Definitely an inferior product! You need to check out your supplier. The content itself is not in question. I would love to have a copy of WW11 in HD. on Blu-ray if you could give me assurances that it will work. I sent the one I got from you back.
