I recently bought an Xbox One X and so far I've been blown away by the performance. I'm mostly a Playstation gamer and own a PS4 Pro. I love the PS4 platform and, while I used to be a 360 gamer, the Xbox One never won me over. Let's face it, the Xbox One launch was a disaster and Microsoft lost a lot of old customers to it. I've had an Xbox One sitting in the corner for years, but rarely did I feel the need to boot it up. So why did I even bother to double down in the Xbox ecosystem when I wasn't even using it? Performance. While I do love my PS4 Pro, the performance benefits have been lackluster. Games have focused on visuals over frame rates. In addition, the algorithm the PS4 uses for adjusting the resolution on the fly makes left and right movement way blurrier than it should be. In short, the PS4 Pro looks fantastic when you're standing still, but in motion it leaves a bit to be desired. Sony just stopped short of where they needed to be to provide quality visuals to hit their $399 Target price. Microsoft, on the other hand, took the better approach. Your extra $100 goes a long way on The XB1X. Rarely do you have to choose between framerate and visuals. That extra $100 bought you the power you need to do both. Games just look stunning on my 4K tv, like I was playing games on a gaming PC. No blurring, texture tearing, chugging along, scenes loosing detail when action picks up. It's just a consistently good experience. Microsoft still has a long way to go with their user interface and usability, but these are easy things to overlook seeing the quality of the visuals you get. While I don't see Xbox becoming my primary platform, I do see myself playing AAA titles exclusively on it. As far as the pack in game, Metro Exodus goes, it's a blast with an intriguing story and amazing visuals. I'm not much of a FPS gamer, but the slower and methodical pace of this title, along with the atmosphere, create an experience I feel many non-FPS gamers will enjoy. If I had to compare it to any other title, I would compare it to Dead Space and Alien: Isolation as far as pacing and action speed goes. This is a great bundle that really shows off the power of the system. Good job, Microsoft!
