Customers are saying

Customers have good things to say about the game's excellent gameplay, massive world to explore, and the beautiful art book included in the special edition. Many appreciate the expansive environment and the large amount of content available. However, some criticisms focus on the storyline, which some found underwhelming compared to previous entries in the series. Concerns were also raised regarding the quality and functionality of the included USB drive.

Great game and expansive worlds! The settings are very cool and the mechs make it much easier to roam around the vast plains.

This has been a pretty disappointing Special edition, especially for the price. The game is great so you can pretty much just stick to buying only the game. The USB thing is pretty flimsy and the insert isn't even metal-covered so it's like a stripped USB. The art book is softcover and pretty small and not really great like the original artbook

If you expect an entertaining experience like the first Xenoblade, look somewhere else. This game is fun and will keep you entertained, but the lack of features from the first game and the overall shallowness to the story line and combat leaves the game lacking.

I did my best to not be biased

Okay, I really like the xeno series by Monolith Soft. Heck, I'm really in love with a lot of monolith's titles (excluding project x zone, very repetitive game that can't live up to fire emblem). Despite this, I'm going to say non biasedly that this special edition is awesome, but not perfect. It honestly reminds me of a old school super nintendo box the way it is horizontal with the black edges. That's not a bad thing. Also the box art is popped up in 3d, which is really cool. I love running my hands through the groves. You can't see that in the pictures they advertised. It is even hard to see in some videos. I managed to carefully peal off the tape on both ends without damaging the beautiful box. I originally freaked out a little bit when I saw them there, I'd rather it be in manufacture shrink wrap. Props to bestbuy for packaging it well and props to USPS for delivering it safely/carefully. Insert art is reversible and looks like the special edition box. USB has DRM protection that also prevents you from copy and pasting anything on your entire computer until your remove it. The usb is made out of metal so it is heavy yet the inside connector is a little weak. It does light up blue but it is very faint even in the dark. There is 801mb of storage with only 720kb free. Out of all the preorder bonuses and special editions that come with games (excluding guides and individually bought artbooks), this is the best artbook I have ever gotten. It is a little thick and is the size of the box with a lot of variey in pictures, concepts, and colors. Some of which take up the entire 2 page. I left my lithograph in its' seal. Overall I wouldn't pay more than 150$ for it brand new and msrp for used. The usb which was suppose to be the most appealing is what mark it down by 1 star for reasons expressed above.

This world is SO big and so full of challenges and things to see. I personally have been waiting for this game since the release of the Wii U and the time it took to localize it was absurd. I give Nintendo of America a 4/10 in localization efforts but a 10/10 to Monolith Soft for this masterpiece. The collectors edition is not that great, the art book is great but I would trade the USB flash drive for the Steelbook and poster that Europe got. Get the base game! What are you waiting for!? See you in Mira!

    Fantastic Wii U RPG

Xenoblade is definitely one of the must have games for the Wii U. It is less story driven than the first Xenoblade on the Wii, instead taking a more Western open world / avatar character approach. This may be a plus or minus depending on what type of RPGs you like. However, the quality of the game shows and it's a fantastic experience. The Collector's Edition is sort of a dud. The artbook and USB drive aren't really worth the additional cost, though if using Best Buy's Gamer's Club Unlocked bonus, the price is more reasonable. I'd say skip on the Collector's Edition and just get the normal game.

I've been waiting on this game for years since playing the original Xenoblade. From everything I've seen online it seems to have excellent gameplay, beautiful music and (for the Wii U) some of the best graphics around! Very excited to see this game released and can't wait for it to come out!

    Caveat for Mac users

Before I review the game, I just want to point out that the soundtrack is an .exe file and thus NOT compatible with Mac computers unless you're using a Windows emulator. A bit of a disappointment, but at least you can still use the USB drive, which is pretty cool. The game itself is great! The world it's set in is simply amazing with fantastic graphics and a huge variety of flora and fauna to encounter. There are some minor frustrations like the fact that some of the side missions ask you to collect items with no direction on where to find them (there are literally five continents in the game so searching them all for a rare item isn't fun), but you can easily find guides online to help you with this. The customization is robust, the story is pretty well-done, and fighting with a skell (basically a transformer that you get to control from the inside) is just very cool.

Very special edition for an instant classic. The outer box art, graphic design and overall packaging is amazing, the artbook has a lot of unreleased art, and the art card is fantastic. It's unfortunate how the handling of the music files of the USB ended, but they were probably forced to release the files like that given the medium. Anyways, those tracks can be found online pretty easily. Also, it's a nice touch that even the game itself from this edition is special... having reversible art.

This game is good right from the start. It tells an epic story while not being overly complicated to play or follow. It will be looked on as a classic. Highly recommend if you own a Wii U.

The world of Xenoblade Chronicles X is immersively big when compared to the original, the artbook is beautiful as well. Carreful with the USB stick as it has a bug, wouldn't recommend utilizing it, instead keep it as a display piece.
