BEST Electronic Door Lock!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We are already planning on buying another one for our back door! We have tried a bunch of other electronic/smart door locks and none of them—none—worked well until this one. Mostly they would not work with our front door, even when we carefully double and triple checked the measurements and installation specifications before purchase. My husband is also pretty capable when it comes to DIY house projects and fixing anything around the house, so we knew that was not the problem. We tried different price points as well—from the least expensive to the priciest ones with all the fancy extras. So we were pretty skeptical when we got this one, and did not get our hopes up. Lo and behold, it works, and it works well! Installation, while it took a while, was not complicated and actually was pretty straightforward; we did not run into any problems. We like that the entry is simple—either use a code or a key. I know others may want the fancy stuff with app functionality, internet connection/wireless connectivity, etc. but we prefer this nice simple format. It uses 4 regular AA batteries (not included) so it is battery powered; no need to mess with wiring to a power source. Setting up the keypad codes was also quick and easy. We also really like the look and feel of the entire system—the “black suede” matte finish is sleek and understated, as is the layout of the numbers on the keypad. The feel of the individual numbers on the keypad is pleasant and soft when pressed. It is a backlit keypad, so no worries about the numbers becoming faded or wearing off. Our door gets a LOT of direct sunlight—when I hang decorations and signs on it, they invariably get very faded and worn looking, so knowing that it won’t happen with this keypad is very reassuring. I have family and friends who have smart door locks with the more typical keypads (plastic buttons, for example) where the numbers are clearly faded and/or worn off. Very reliable, for a GREAT price. I highly recommend it!

Works great and looks even better
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt is a nice upgrade from a traditional deadbolt, or in my case, a great addition to a door without a deadbolt. It is a non-connected key pad lock meaning there's no app or phone set up required. It provides a "key free" way to secure your home or to grant access to a rental home without the need to hide a key. The instructions are very clear and they even include templates to replace an existing deadbolt, or to install completely from scratch. The lock kit can accommodate doors from 1-3/8" to 2" thick and with bore diameters of 1-1/2" or 2-1/8". All hardware is included - even the striker plate and screws. For my installation, using the template I used a hole saw and drill bit to create the holes in the door. I then placed the deadbolt in the hole, attached the key pad, and the internal lock plate. To replace an existing deadbolt would be a much easier process! Once installed simply install 4 AA batteries (not included), set your 4-8 digit entry code, and you're ready to go. You also have the ability to store up to 20 different entry codes making it a great option for guests at your home, or for a rental property. The lock turns easily and is very smooth. The keypad is backlit making it easy to see the numbers even in the dark. Yale also includes a key, "just in case" which you can use to open the lock via a keyhole just below the number pad. The Yale Code is available in two great looks - satin finish or black suede. I installed the black suede and it looks very stylish/modern. For convenience, Yale also offers similar "smart" products that allow you to access the lock from your cell phone.

Great keyless option!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This keyless entry dead bolt door lock is a great addition to the safety and convenience of your home. Installation was very simple. It just replaces the existing deadbolt set up of your door. It’s battery operated so you don’t need to do any wiring during installation either. This fit perfect and securely onto my door. I prefer a keypad lock versus an app or other wifi enabled systems. I personally feel they are more secure as there’s no wifi chance of it being hacked. You can set 20 different lock combinations to this keypad to allow other people their own code for access. I love the sleek satin finish of it. The quality feels durable and sturdy which made me feel comfortable installing it on my garage entry door. After using it for a week it has been reliable and I haven’t had any issues with entry since installation. It comes with a backup key Incase of emergency or if battery dies. It says the battery life is about a year. It takes 4 AA batteries. The keys light up which is perfect for night time access.

Great non-"Smart" Deadbolt!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have a home full of smart devices. From cellphones, to doorbells, to door locks, to appliances, and everything else. I had recently replaced our main entrance door's door knob with a smart knob (which has a keypad, a key, and fingerprints as entry options) & that is serving us well still. In our basement-garage we have a deadbolt that I have been wanting to replace with a better solution vs. what it's had for the past 25+ years; but with it being such a long ways away from our WiFi router I knew a smart option would probably be nothing but a headache. Enter the Yale Keypad Deadbolt to give us just enough tech without all the headache of a full smart solution. And boy, do we love it. We went from never using that door to using it rather frequently again. It could be that it is still new and only time will tell but I suspect we'll keep using it because of how easy it is for Ingress & egress. Installation If you have ever replaced a door knob or a deadbolt then you'll be right at home switching out your current deadbolt to this new one. It was insanely easy. If you've never done it before the instructions are a little less detailed than you might need but a quick search on YouTube will have you installing the new Yale Keypad Deadbolt in no time. It truly is easy to do, and I had it installed in less than 10 minutes. Rating: 5/5 Setup Setting up the Yale Keypad Deadbolt was straightforward & easy as well. The instructions outline how to set the deadbolt knob's turning direction, how to set up your own codes, and also how to set the keypad to auto-lock after 30 seconds or to remain unlocked. I have ours set to relock after 30 seconds. I wish it had a way to know if the door was open still or closed and to only relock itself if the door is closed but that's a want vs. a need because it's easy to just spin the deadbolt lock knob to the unlocked position, close the door, and either lock it yourself or let the door auto-lock itself. Again, the setup, just like the installation, was a breeze due to my having setup similar devices before. But I think even someone who has never done this before should be able to get everything installed, setup, and going in less than an hour. Rating: 5/5 Usage As I already outlined in the previous sections you can unlock & lock the deadbolt by way of the included key, the Yale button (to lock it), or your own code (to unlock it) and it is extremely easy to do so. I had set up everyone in our household with their own codes & everyone has been using it when they park down near the basement. We even set up codes for some of our extended family that are in town so that they can enter & leave the house easily due to my having set the main entrance door up with the smart door knob. Also as I mentioned previously you can set the deadbolt to auto-lock after 30 seconds & I did so because I know that with us having not used this door in many years I know myself, and others in my family, will forget to lock it. Which has happened & is why I set it to auto-lock. It works flawlessly. And everyone in the family seemed to love it. Rating: 5/5 Build Quality & Finish The Yale Keypad Deadbolt has only been installed for a little over a week now so I can't say for sure how well it will hold up over an extended period of time but it is on a side of the house that gets sunlight early in the mornings & most of the day so if it is going to fade it will do so quickly; but that said, I don't believe it will because the build quality & the finish on it look really nice. The deadbolt itself has a nice weight to it where you can tell that it is not cheaply made with cheap, thin parts. I was impressed with how much it weighed without being overly bulky. Rating: 5/5 Conclusion Everyone in the family has enjoyed getting to use the Yale Keypad Deadbolt. And everyone has thanked me for installing it because now when they park "down below" they don't have to walk up the driveway, to the main entrance to enter the home, they can enter through the basement & come upstairs. As I stated previously my only minor complaint would be I wish the deadbolt knew when the door was open or closed so it could not auto-lock when opened but then auto-lock when closed. However, I will take it as is because our main entrance smart knob locks itself automatically every single time you close the door which is super annoying when you are just trying to keep the AC from escaping through the glass/screen door so you pull that door to and then have to enter your code again. With this Yale Deadbolt we can pull the door mostly to, let it auto-lock, then just open the door, and then unlock it, and close the door. Nothing major & not something I'd subtract any stars from on my end. It's much better than that smart knob on the main entrance, like I said. All in all we all love this Yale Deadbolt & will be keeping an eye on all the other Yale products so that we can maybe make use of them in our home, or on our camper, going forward. Rating: 20/20

Simple, Easy, Set code and go! Key for backup!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most of the products of this type require big in depth setups or apps with pages of settings but this one absolutely does not and I love it. As easy to install as any other deadbolt and I even reused my striker plate from my old lock so I didnt have to do more work or put more wear on the holes for that in my door. Essentially after you install it and put the batteries in the light turns yellow, you enter your code you want to use (4-8 digits) and press the Yale button again and it’s loaded in. You can add up to 20 different codes and remove them at any time following a similar procedure with the Yale and mode buttons on the lock (from inside and outside to make sure only you are able to do it). There is of course a key slot for a key that comes with this just in case the batteries are dead or for manual use. I personally am using a set of rechargeable AA batteries that have worked out great so far. Time will tell how long batteries actually last based on use but no issues so far. I do remember a note in the manual for if you have faster drain there is settings to change but I dont forsee this being an issue. I use the auto lock option on mine and really like that to be on because I have kids and teens that are in and out all day that sometimes forget to lock it to keep everyone safe now it just happens. Everyone was already in the habit of having a spare key cut and around a keychain or lanyard so this also just made sense to have on top of having their own codes since it can add so many. Then when they move out the code can be deleted (O_o LOL kidding). Either way this is a breath of fresh air as far as an electronic deadbolt goes because its just so simple to install, set code, and just go without all the problems you usually get with stuff like this. Excellent value for money from a name you can trust in home security and of course it cant be “hacked” if its not on wifi!

Easy to Install, Handled 115 Degree Weather
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Yale Code Keypad Deadbolt is one of the most solid and easily installed units I have ever used. I've installed over a dozen keypad electronic locks in my prior houses. I like this more simple lock for the backdoor to my garage that is within a fenced-in yard; therefore I didn't need the wireless connectivity that is not part of this lock. I was impressed with how smoothly the lock worked, a tip of the cap to the Yale engineers for designing a simple, smooth and rugged device. Installation instructions were top notch and included a section to show you how to determine if the mounting holes of my current lock would support this new lock. This electronic lock parameters were compatible so I did not have to drill any larger holes and I did not have any existing holes that were too large. I was able to remove the old lock and install the new lock in about 10 minutes. You do need to pay attention to whether you have a left or right hand door - the instructions clearly show you how to determine the hand of the door; and then you set a small micro-switch inside the battery compartment to the correct hand. The new lock operated flawlessly on the first try. I did test the factory reset process using the 'Mode' button (also in the battery compartment area); and the lock did the required reset of all codes. Programming an unlock code is simple, but you should save the instructions as different brands of electronic locks use slightly different steps. You can set up over 20 different unlock codes if you need to. I liked the feature where you can lock the door by touching just one button. This lock did handle 115 degree heat a couple days in our August heatwave and still worked perfectly. I am very happy with this electronic deadbolt lock and highly recommend it.

Simple keypad deadbolt, perfect for our needs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this for my 89 year old Mother's home. She is in a wheel chair and has care workers enter her home on a daily basis, thus it is difficult for her to go to the door each time to let them in. My Mom is not technically savvy at all and she did not want or need a lock that comes with an app and has a lot of functionality. She needs something simple that has access codes that she can give to her care givers so they can come into her home and provide her with help. Installation was very straightforward with easy to follow instructions. Once activated, the only problem I had was when activating the deadbolt from the outside. I could hear the lock trying to fully "engage" three times then I'd get a "red light" issue from the lock. I determined that it was not fully engaging because the recessed hole in the door jam was not deep enough for the lock to fully extend. I bored it out with a screwdriver a bit and eventually got the hole deep enough for the lock to fully engage. No more "red light" issue, problem solved. The deadbolt keypad works perfectly. I helped my Mom setup a few different codes for different workers and family members and it does exactly what she needs it to do. If you need a simple keypad door lock for your door with no functionality beyond that and at a good price then this lock fits the bill perfectly. It does not have a bunch of bells and whistles, it is simple and works well, perfect for my Mom.

I like this one
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had several different brands of electronic deadbolts - this is my first Yale brand unit. I chose this unit based on having issues with other brands wearing out (and failing to work in cold weather!) - and also based on this unit having a physical door key (in case the electronic deadbolt on this one fails in cold weather - like, well below zero weather). The installation was typical as with the installation of any other deadbolt. The physical installation was familiar, including the use of long screws to securely install the latchplate in the door frame. The unit installs without fuss and it installs securely (no wiggle when it is installed). The code setup was easy to set on the keyboard, including the option to set multiple codes as needed. The only issue that I had was that I pressed the Yale logo the morning after installation and the lock surprisingly unlocked without me entering the code. After repeating the issue and not being able to resolve, I called Yale tech support. I never call tech support, but chose to in this case and the fix was quick. I needed to flip a toggle switch on the inside panel from a right swing door to a left swing door. Tech support was quick and easy. I recommend this unit - I just hope that it performs well in the cold for many years to come...

Modern well built lock
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had some time to play with this automated lock, it was simple to install and easy to use. I use it for an interior door which I need secured. It is a solid construction lock, about as easy to install as any other door lock. The lettering on the buttons appears to be smudge proof and fade proof. It allows you to store up to 20 codes and it does not need an APP for use which is a bit refreshing. The less complicated, the less things can go wrong. The housing seems pretty sturdy as does the deadbolt latch. The only downside I have come across so far is an easy indicator of battery life. I have yet to use it long enough to where the battery needs replacement but since there is no APP i would have liked a light indicating battery level, something easy for example blinks red when urgent replacement is needed or yellow when battery is 50%. Overall a nice simple lock with a sleek design.

Great investment into your home!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Packaging was well done and clearly separated the variety of steps needed to install. Instructions were clear and unambiguous. I was replacing and existing lock and the process start to finish was done in less than 10 minutes. I would highly encourage you to have 4 AA batteries ready to setup. Picking a pin was super easy and straightforward. Hand tools were more than adequate to install. The color of the deadbolt looks clean and nice. Physical buttons were a welcome move as they allow for a tactile feel in the dark. It would have been nice for two keys to have been included in the box (only one was included), as well as the batteries. The mounting hardware was sufficient to allow for the keypad to be tight enough that it will not move with any normal use or slight abuse. We have been using it for a few weeks now and it appears to hold up to weather pretty well. We had a monsoon-esque rain storm directly fire onto the pad for a few hours, followed by several days of 95+ degree weather.

Spend a few extra bucks on an actual smartlock
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are thinking about a smart lock, and are on a budget, the Yale - Code Keypad Deadbolt is a good option to consider. When we purchased our home, there was already an existing smartlock. Unfortunately, it was a smartlock from a rental company, so we didn't have what we needed to make personalized changes. So, I explored options and knew that I did not want to change back to a traditional lock. The opportunity came up to try the Yale - Code Keypad Deadbolt, so I went for it. To start, you don't really get much from an entry level lock like this. I think you are barely getting the bare minimum from a lock like this. So, keep that in mind when shopping for something like this. One of the biggest setbacks from this is you don't get any app control. This means that there is no bluetooth or wifi connectivity available. You are really only getting a code access lock and a key for backup. If you are wondering if there is a way to turn this into a wifi enabled lock...there isn't. This isn't like a true smart-lock from Yale that has a slot for the wifi module. So, you can't convert it over to a smart-lock. Another downside is that this lock does NOT have a sensor for the automatic lock feature that most smart-locks come with. The Yale - Code Keypad Deadbolt lock is just programmed to lock automatically after a few seconds, whether the door is closed or not. It really sucks shutting the door and not realizing that the striker is opened and the lock daamajing the door jamb. So, keep that in mind if you do dicide to purchase the Yale - Code Keypad Deadbolt . Aside from this, the keypad is very responsive, but does feel a bit cheap. So far, I haven't had any issues getting the keypad to unlock. In my opinion, I would just recommend that you spend teh extra bucks and go with a true smart-lock. The added benefits of a smart-lock are well worth the few extra dollars.

A great budget friendly deadbolt
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have another Yale lock but the difference is that the other is WIFi connected and this one is not. Also this one has a key while the WIFI connected one does not. So there are some give and takes. This kit comes with everything needed to replace your existing deadbolt. If you have an existing Yale system then installing this will take minimum alterations to your door. I personally had to adjust the door opening a bit by sanding down the opening to have the mounts sit flush without issues. I also did not need to use the included strike plate which is fine. The instructions are good but I got majorly confused bout how the switches are to be set dependent on which way you have the interior of the lock oriented. This install took me about an hour all together. Why? the bolt lock included can be adjusted to fit your door so you have to take that in mind when doing the installation. I do like the black suede finish. It is not flashy and very subtle. The addition of the keypad and key is appreciated in this case. Also this being a non WIFI unit is actually refreshing. Nothing to keep constantly connected, even though I have the capacity. The operation and setting is pretty straight forward and the use of the actual lock perfect. No issues here. I great lock for a great begginers price.

I was not able to use it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started out with this lock, but was unable to use it due to it being delivered defective. I ended up switching to a Yale lock since the store rep recommended it to me. Maybe I should have stuck with this one, but it’s not often available in store, Best Buy shipped it to me. I would still recommend it as it is easy to install.
