I purchased this receiver to replace one that went out. The purchase price was perfect. The assembly was easy. The sound is excellent.
This is my first video audio receiver, which filters audio through the receiver. After the receiver was installed, my DirecTV can run the receiver.
This receiver starts up and provides surround sound from the start. I also have a Fire Stick, Chromecast, and a DVD Bluray which start up and provide the surround sound on each.
In addition, the receiver can boost lower DPI to fit into a 4K screen. I should have invested sooner.

We bought this to replace an old failing Sony AV receiver and like its capabilities. We use it for switching between Cable TV, BluRay/DVD, Internet radio, CD player, FireTV, and PC HDMI. The only quirk is that sometimes when you select a source, it switches back to an audio source in a minute or so. After selecting the souce again it stays on that selection. We've gotten used to the quirk but it would be nice if it wasn't there. The manual is overly succinct and doesn't help the user with detailed explanations of how the receiver features can be used. It also uses technical terms without explaining them. That said, I like the extensive capabilities it has and am pleased with its purchase.

I’ve had this receiver for a couple months now. Setup was very easy and the menu is very easy to navigate as well. It fulfilled my needs of having a 4K passthrough capable receiver for my home theater. I did my own research to replace my working Harmon Kardon receiver (didn’t have 4K capability) and am very pleased with this Yamaha.

This receiver apparently can do amazing things, but the 28-page (English portion) Quick Start Guide touches on very few features. The referenced downloadable manual covers many different countries and operating variables, which does not help. Yamaha needs to get a couple of ordinary users with good communications skills to help with the manual.
Once set up, the shortcut features are very convenient, but it isn't clear how to make the most of them, and the wording used to describe their function and setup could be vastly improved. One example mystery is how to use the red/green/yellow/blue keys on the remote. A step-by-step procedure, at least a couple of examples, would help greatly.
Sound quality is excellent.
The biggest disappointment is the extremely low sensitivity of the FM receiver, and only the most powerful stations can be picked up, regardless of antenna (supplied wire or aftermarket) and placement of antenna.
The Internet radio provided very few local stations of the many that are available. I was able to set up Pandora in the Musicast feature, but an external app (Android mobile phone in my case) is necessary to control it.

Our old receiver just quit so I went on the hunt for a new one. We had Yamaha products in the past and were happy with their results. I ordered the 5.2 receiver online and the local Best Buy store delivered it the next day! Ok now I'm ready as I know it will be a real chore to hook it up with all the newer features. The speaker wires were already behind the bedroom dresser so I moved everything and pressed on. I hooked up all the speakers including the sub woofer and it worked like a charm. There are a row of hdmi ports at the top of the receiver and I just plugged the dvd and directv receiver in the ports and one to the tv and it was fantastic. I then plugged in the microphone attachment and the receiver set all the speakers to the correct tone level. I clicked on the internet setup and plugged in our wifi code and it connected immediately. I then clicked on the bluetooth icon and it found my phone immediately! I clicked on the Pandora icon and it immediately found my phone playlist. This has to be one of the best receivers that I have ever bought. It is now a joy to turn it on at night and I really look forward to watching tv in the bedroom!!

This is one of the best receivers out in the market today. It has a balance of performance and features the most people would actually look for such as the 4K pass through/upscaler to the amount of hdmi inputs and speaker connections and the quality of the 4K upscaler is amazing as I have mine connected to a Samsung 40" 4K TV. I would highly recommend this unit as it has a nice blend of performance and value without breaking the bank.

I purchased this receiver to replace an old JVC. Setup was easy and connecting my equipment was a breeze. The included documentation is not very good, but more detailed manuals are available online. The receiver is more than powerful enough for my surround sound and the sound is excellent. I like the convenience of controlling my system with the Yamaha app. The app is worth the download.

Sound is rich and full. Big fan of the app on the phone and iPad.
Remote is well designed and easy to use. Streaming directly works perfectly.
My only negative so far? The bluetooth out signal does have a noticeable delay. So, with the stereo on in my office and sending the signal to a bluetooth speaker in the kitchen only 20 some feet away, the delay is too great to have both of them on. So, awesome to enjoy the audio from the system in a different room, but can't leave them on together which is something I was enthused about before I made the purchase. To be fair, I haven't looked if there is anyway to tweak this feature, but I'm assuming no.

Bought this unit as an upgrade to an all in one home theater system with a blue ray player. Setup was very easy as was calibration of the speakers. Love the features like SiriusXM and an app that works on my iPhone that allows me to change the surround sound settings based on theme. ore than enough power to provide sounde to a large sized room.

I wanted a unit to power outdoor speakers. It is very easy to use and the Music Cast app works in my opinion better than the Sonos app. Has plenty of power to overcome party goers and ambient pool noises and with A and B zones it is easy to shut down either zone that you don’t want to listen to. I am very happy with this receiver.

Excellent Yamaha 5.1 channel A/V home theater Receiver. Excellent Bluetooth function. The remote has a dedicated Bluetooth button that makes it so easy to stream from your smart phone. Also, the party button makes it easy to play music in another room with or without the main room playing music.

I'm happy with the value of this receiver. On-screen setup and tuning controls are fairly intuitive, although you have to find documentation online to understand what some of the less intuitive options do, but overall excellent!

And the price point is great. Everything works as advertised and its super easy to setup and get running. Yamaha makes great stuff and this is nice if you only have 5 speakers and a subwoofer. Everything you need and a few things you probably don't. HDMI cables also label everything for you on the readout... Really easy.

I bought the complete 5.1 Polk Signature Series speakers along with this receiver and I'm in love. :) I don't think I could have found a better receiver and pushing 400 watts movie-night will never be the same.
