I have a very small apartment, so I currently only have two speakers hooked up to my Yamaha RX-V479, but I'm incredibly impressed with it. The amount of control this gives me over my speakers is exceptional, and I enjoy how much I can hook into it. I have managed to plug in (other than my TV) an XBOX One, cable box, WiiU, Gamecube, N64, my PC, and a record player. There's still room for a couple more HDMI inputs, too. Occasionally, I will use the aux to hook up my iPod to it as well, but the Apple Airplay provides better sound.

Got this for new surround sound and projector in our media room and so far it works great! Having 6 HDMIs gives you lots of choices!

Upgraded from a previous Yamaha receiver and was impressed at the new Bluetooth/wireless functionality of the unit. There are now plenty of options to choose from including Pandora.

This product has more features than I will ever use. But, the things that I do use are easy and of high quality. I would recommend this receiver over the "O" brand which it replaces.

We have very much enjoyed our new receiver. It makes movie watching more enjoyable since the receiver has a perfect mix. We also enjoy the MusicCast feature and the AV control app.

Wow! Fantastic sound. A lot of choices of sound. Did some research and this one seem the best buy. It was a little hard to set up the sound with what we had but it does work well.

I bought this for the extra HDMI inputs: PS4, xbox one, chromecast, Wii U, and two left over! That's just part it. There's so much more to this that I am still figuring out.

I brought a subwoofer and a pair of speakers, and then I realized I need a receiver to play the music. I only used its bluetooth feature so far, but it's still good.

I had a chance to compare Yamaha RX-V479, Pioneer VSX-90, and Onkyo TX-NR646. I ended up getting Pioneer as it produced the best sound. Yamaha's shortcomings were as follows: 1) cannot set equalizer separately for different speakers...one EQ setting applies to all speakers (most receivers will allow at least center versus L/R channels to be different as dialogue requires different frequency than music and such that goes to L/R. 2) surround speakers weak...produces much lower quality "placement" of sounds compared with Pioneer (Pioneer was truly seamless adding a lot of realism). 3) Remote only has 4 inputs, so if you have more than 4 components, it will be a pain to switch to the 5th input. On the positive side, each input on the Yamaha saves its own settings (DSP mode, audio settings, etc.) so you can tweak the sound by input. Other than that, sound was average and had decent power but nothing exceptional. Pioneer was truly exceptional in this way and is why I went with it...found open box on sale for less than this model was new, making it pretty affordable.

    Did Not Meet My Needs

The RX-V479 did not meet my needs. It was relatively easy to set up, but the end result was bad. I had trouble transmitting audio to the receiver. By design, this receiver does not support Android wirelessly or via USB. No video of any kind can be wirelessly transmitted via iOS or Android. Another big problem common with modern home theater receivers is a terrible lack of inputs and outputs (no recording loops for example). The onboard apps Spotify, Vtuner, Pandora, and the others are no where near as good as the desktop versions. Overall, I was dreaming of "cutting the wires". But, after all the problems I had this is just not going to happen - at least not with a receiver.
