I'm a huge fan of this receiver. It has enough power for my klispch speakers and you can make the whole room rumble without a problem! I also think it's pretty cool how you can play spotify directly to this unit even if you're not on the same wifi network (could be some security concerns with that). the reason why i'm not giving this 5 star rating is actually part of the spotify feature. I had a friend over and i told them they could play their spotify directly to the AV unit. unfortunately, that AV unit was now tied to their account. So randomly at night i would hear some music playing and the volume go super loud. Thats because my friend had my AV unit select instead of their device. It took me a while to figure out what was going on and the only way to resolve it is to factory reset the AV unit. Thats bit of a flaw if you ask me. So from now on, only I play spotify on the unit. Some other things to look out for is with the mic to configure settings on this unit. it will play test sounds and make adjustments to the speaker volume in relation to where you sit. The only problem is my speakers are so big, the system though i didn't need to use the sub-woofer so i had to make sure i selected the L+R speakers to be small instead of large. This way it uses the sub-woofer for the low end instead of the tower speakers.

Setup was very easy, from Bluetooth and WiFi connections to the speaker configuration settings. The sound is perfect for our small-to-medium sized listening space. And I commend Yamaha on the smartphone app. It is honestly one of the best I've seen in any application scenario; it is as good as the remote control itself.

This is a replacement receiver and it sounds Great! It was easy to install and to connect the Wireless feature. I reviewed many different products and I am happy I decided on this one.

Has decent sound, plenty of hdmi inputs but I am constantly struggling with the audio from my cable box via ARC. Most of the time I have to disable then re- enable it to get sound. Tried updating firmware also to no avail. If it were still in the return period I would return it.

This is a fine receiver. I use it with the Onkyo room of speakers set and it sounds really good. Plenty of selections for customizing sound, and plenty of hookups. Good room around hookups so its easier to attach cables and wires than that Pioneer. Sound is crisp and clear, better than the higher priced Pioneer it replaces. I was initially worried about going from 7-1 to 5-1 but 5-1 is fine unless you have a well designed theater or larger room than we have. Dont miss 7-1 at all. Very easy set up. Bluetooth streaming works well. No glitches and the remote is simplicity and well done. Highly recommended for the price. P.S. No "B" speaker hookups, so if you ran wire from your receiver to patio speakers, wont do it. But in a world of Bluetooth streaming from your phone to a multitude of available standalone speakers (like the superb JBL Pulse series) I dont miss the "B" hookups but wanted to mention.

I looked at going down the Sonos route, but decided to build my own home system with this receiver as it offers all the features of the Sonos plus more. I love that it has built in AirPlay, Bluetooth, and WiFi. Best part is I can fully control the receiver including power on/off using my iPhone. I'm starting off with two wired floor speakers, but plan on getting the new Yamaha MusicCast speaker system which will allow me to send wirelessly the music playing on the receiver to other rooms int he house.

I am impressed with this receiver. After purchasing what I believe was a defective Denon receiver out of Magnolia, I decided to get a simple but quality receiver from the floor. After hooking up the receiver, I was amazed at the quality of the sound that this unit performed that I went online and purchased the Yamaha 5.1 receiver out of the Magnolia department for only $100 more. I will return this unit but that is only because Yamaha RX-A550 is more inline with what I originally wanted to purchase.

I'm very pleased with my new Yamaha Receiver. The sound quality for movies is a big upgrade from my previous Onkyo. The connections are well marked and the owner's manual made set up fairly straightforward. I really liked the automatic speaker audio set up feature (YPAO). I still can't figure out why some channels have better sound quality than others, but that might have something to do with the audio source from the particular channel, so I'm not going to criticize the receiver. It could use one or two additional HDMI ports, but I suppose that would add to the price. Overall, a really good receiver for the money.

Unit puts out more than adequate power for excellent surround sound with television. Has plenty of inputs so I have everything running through the receiver.all inputs and outputs clearly marked.

This is the best amplifier Iv'e had it is a very nice design. It has good horsepower bringing my new polk speakers and my subwoofer to life. I really like the 5 channel stereo setting which converts everything to 5 channel stereo. The tv actually looks sharper bringing our new 4k tv to life. You can actually hear the rear channels unlike my last amp. The amplifier was easy to set up with the auto speaker level set up mic which helped me get every channel working properly.

love the ease of setup. sound quality and power is great! had a denon first but everything about it felt cheap, especially the remote, so i returned it for this receiver and love it.

My old Yamaha receiver died after 10 years. This was a fantastic upgraded system for what I had. It has so many great features and was easy to install and get up and running..

recently purchased some new speakers for the house (energy rc-lcr for both front as well as center channel), speakers were being powered by an old optimus amp receiver and we noticed that the voices during television were a bit muffled. we also were missing some of the new features such as Bluetooth. started receiver shopping and found the Yamaha rx-v479 highly reviewed on a number of sites. Following purchase found feature after feature which we loved, particularly the airplay (better than bluetooth!) and the autoswitch feature which was a pleasant surprise as it was not mentioned anywhere that I had read. This receiver will autodetect the newest audio source and automatically switch to this source, even if off. This is wonderful as I start airplay on my phone and the receiver turns on and switches to the correct channel. The sound quality is amazing, crisp and crystal clear and drives the speakers very well even at reasonably high volumes. Overall this has been an amazing upgrade for our home, highly recommended and very feature rich for the price!

You should definately run your TV and DVD player thru the receiver so you can get the full 5.1 surround sound if you have front & back speakers with a sub-woofer. The sound is amazing! Use only HDMI cables. You will hear sounds that you couldn't hear through your TV speakers even if you have a sound Bar speaker. That is only 2.1 sound.

THE UNIT IS A REPLACEMENT FOR ANOTHER YAMAHA RECEIVER. THE SETUP WAS VERY EASY (HARDEST PART WAS CONNECTING THE WIRES.) SOUND IS GREAT AND EASILY ADJUSTABLE.

I bought this receiver for my son's new apartment. It has all the connectivity needed for the newer technology. It was easy to set up and sounds great.

The best sound I have had since first having an entertainment center plus it eliminated most of the wiring that would have gone to the TV and all associated components are wired and played through the receiver. The only downside was I lost the ability to use the TV speakers. It even came with a CD that contained the users manual a rare thing in this age when everyone wants you to have to go to a social networking site to learn how to use something.

Easy to setup, sounds great. The setup microphone lets the receiver customize sound according to your room acoustics. I really like this receiver.

Replaced a 6 year old Yamaha system with this unit and love the updates: 4K, WiFi, Pandora, Internet radio, audio setup and digital display. Very pleased and got it on sale too!

We dont go to movies often,so when we watch at home,we appreciate theatre quality sound.With the right surround speakers& subwoofer(we have KLIPSCH),this reciever gives us Excellent results!
