This replaced my tried and true RX-671 AVR. After 8 years, it lost the left side channel on one the audio inputs. This receiver has a little more oomph. It also supports Atmos surround which was a pleasant surprise and a dedicated phono input (which allowed me to eliminate the preamp to the previous receiver (It will be repurposed to the man cave). My only negative is that the buttons on the remote are more soft touch than the previous, and that the various inputs have to be cycled through the a forward/reverse sequence requiring multiple key strokes.

    I am loving the Yamaha

The Yamaha creates a nice soundscape even at low volumes. Both music and movies sound perfect. The only thing I don't like is the AI (artificial intelligence) sound decoder mode, but maybe you have to actually use that for it to make itself better? In any case, I just use the automatic surround decoder for almost everything, and occasionally use DTS:Neo6 or DTS:NeuralX for older movies, or shows. The HighRes Audio feature helps a little. Setup was easy, but it sounded great straight out of the box.

    Aventage RX-1080

Bought this as an open box. So far so good. Had an older model Aventage 2080 that we loved till the board went. It would cost around $700 to fix. Wasn’t worth it. This model puts out around 110 watts per Channel compared to the 2080 at around 150. Lots of difference on the volume. It does seem the newer 1080 is a little more crisp in sound. Also this model doesn’t allow you to set the bass crossover where you want it. When you set the Hzs on the speakers, it sets the bass at the same. I like the older models that allow you to set the HZs on both the speakers and sub. Overall, a good receiver. Hope this lasts longer than the 2080 we had (only about 5 years).

Not complicated. A lot of functionality. You have to go online in order to get the set up instructions. I was able to set this up (to include the wi/fi capability) in about two hours. My last receiver was a Technics that I purchased over 30 years ago. The technical capabilities have changed but the set up is basically the same. You don't need to be a techie to set up and operate this receiver. I matched this receiver with Bowers Wilkins speakers. Definitely worth the money.

When purchasing this AVR is want looking for a unit that upscaled video or games to 4K. Wow, I was playing a game on the Xbox one then playing to join a friend on the PS4, same game. It had to switch back nd fourth a few time because the PS4 was Clearly much cleaner and vivant. When watching a 1080p Blu-ray, 1917 it was on par with UHD Aqua Man. I definitely got it for the price I paid on a fluke open box return the guy before bought, opened the box and didn't realize it was 7.1. As for musiccast and Alexa it a pain in the butt, troublesome and not consistent unfortunalty. Had it not been $699 would have gotnit, but again didn't realize we back to making great AVR's with a great GUI.

The store manager at this store is great! I wish he voting be copied and pasted to all the other retailer stores. Came first thing in the morning and my wife greeted them; they were in and out without hearing any noise. Our house isn’t massive so I either I was exhausted or they were just as professional and I would expect from bestbuy overall. 18 years using bestbuy services. No one‘s perfect, but I’m clearly happy.

This replaced a Pioneer vsx 92 in the man cave with 7.1 paradigms. After speaker setup and calibration, I was immediately impressed with the clarity and clean separation of instruments/notes with music. It's like the speakers woke up and are finally producing the sound they're capable of. Movies are clear, precise, and vocals are rich and natural. I have a Denon AVR-X 3100W (In the living room) with 7.2 deftechs that now sounds "basic". Wife now asks to watch shows/movies downstairs more frequently due to the jump in sound quality. I'm more than happy with the performance so far. Goes to show you, you don't know what you're missing until you have it (or lose it). "Party Mode" is my favorite setting on this unit. It directs full stereo mode to all channels while still having the ability to throw certain sounds to individual speakers so you still experience immersive surround. Best of both worlds! Very happy with this purchase!!

Recently replaced an older model Onkyo receiver with this model from Yamaha. Excellent power output and audio quality. Comes with all the typical bells and whistles for a new receiver. Operates with ease and has exhibited no glitches so far. Powers my main theater system as well as Zone 2 with no problems. Remote is rather large and overly elaborate, but that's the only negative so far.

This is an upgrade for us - wanted Dolby Atmos. Got what we wanted and kept the sound-field option (even better) that we really enjoyed. The set-up was simple to do. The mike adjustment made it easy. Use is simple and direct. The remote is super! I would highly recommend this receiver!

I'm really enjoying this receiver. Sounds much more dynamic than my previous one (Yamaha RX-A780). The newest version of YPAO is also better in my opinion.

Unable to give accurate review on item. BB sold me an open box “excellent” item missing remote, power cord, box and manuals. The 5 star review is only given because I was able to get another else where. This Yamaha sounds great and it easy to setup. The MusicCast app works way better then the Denon/Marantz Heos app. Yamaha has a warmer crystal clear sound. It does not run hot like my previous Marantz products all did.

The Receiver is great - it replaced a Yamaha that had served well for many years but the new technology is great. The service we received from both the Magnolia Room and the Geek Squad were the best.

Traded in a Sony receiver that I had purchased that just didn’t have enough power. This Yamaha has plenty of power and all the inputs that I would ever need. Easy to use remote control is a plus too.
