Yamaha has always made great products and this one is perfect for home theater surround sound. It is replacing a previous Yamaha receiver that i have had for over 7 years. This one has been updated for all the 4K audio and video.

this AV receiver has features of receivers at a higher price point. The Aventage receivers are overbuilt compared to the Yamaha standard line. All the bells and whistles like 4K HDR 7.2 surround. The only problem I have is not enough outputs to hook up external amplifiers to.

Nice A/V Receiver but needs firmware improvements

In general the Yamaha AVENTAGE RX-A780 receiver does a good job. However, there are a few issues: 1) Getting the various media players to work with a 4K TV (like DirecTV, XBox One, Blu Ray Player) takes quite a bit of configuration work. Else, your screen will continuously flicker. To this day, I still cannot get my Roku 4K device to play nice and I've had to resort to connecting directly to the TV and adding an optical cable back to the A/V receiver. This should not have to be an option on such an expensive receiver. 2) For some reason, the various sound programs no longer work. 3) When first powering on all my devices, the A/V receiver will switch HDMI inputs after 10 seconds forcing me to manually change it back. I read the forums and others have been experiencing the same issues for a while so Yamaha has not fixed them. I probably would not purchase this model again until Yamaha actually fixes these problems.

I bought this because my previous one was damaged in a storm. I have had Yamaha in the past but was never really impressed with them. I gave this one another chance because it said it worked with Alexa. It does not work as well as I had hoped. The sound quality is excellent and it’s responsiveness is great. I have struggled for years to find a unit that has a Zone 2 that works the way I want and this one is no better. I would really like a Zone 2 that seemed a little more independent. Would absolutely love to be able to say “Alexa, play some music in the (whatever you name Zone 2) and it turn on just Zone 2 and start playing. I have named both Zones but Alexa does not seem to know the difference

I’ve owned other Yamaha receivers in the last 20 years for multiple sound systems. This model was easy to set up and it integrated my speakers flawlessly. The YPAO mic feature makes it simple for optimum speaker output.

I really am enjoying this unit. It works well and audio (and visual) works great and sounds great. Use the phone app to control it---much easier than the remote (and I don't even know where the controls are on the unit itself).

Good base for a home theater system. Lags a little when switching between video inputs. Great options on the present programs with ample power, but will not set-up with an older Bose 5.2 system. Bypassed the Bose and it set up fine with a set of Polks, no problem.

This was a gift for my son, but he has been ecstatic about the improvement in the quality of overall sound. Having discreet amplifiers pushing each channel with low harmonic distortion makes a difference you really can hear.
