I'll start off by saying that I am a fan of soundbars for certain applications. Secondary systems, bedrooms, beginners in HT etc. Most do a decent 2.1 or 3.1 job. However, for a true HT experience I'm sure most would agree that they simply fall short. In my situation, I was replacing a full HT setup as we were doing some remodeling. My wife wanted a much cleaner look without speakers everywhere. To add we have a large room with hardwood floors and a finished basement so we could not run wires under or around anything with ease. I was contemplating going wireless with a sub and rears until I saw this Yamaha that was coming out. I waited patiently for it's release and then waited to hear some initial reviews. I would agree with 99% of them. While nothing fully replicates having actual rear and ceiling speakers, this thing comes amazingly close and certainly close enough to satisfy the vast majority. Our room is 23 feet long with 14 foot vaulted ceilings. I was worried this would create issues where the Yamaha couldn't hold up. It absolutely amazed me after doing the 3 minute initial setup. A sub is a must. Don't kid yourself, a sub is a must in any HT setup. While some may be sticker shocked, the power and build quality (and sound quality) justify the price to me. This thing gets very loud and has very clean sound. The HDR passthrough has an easy workaround as the Samsung 4k Bluray player has 2 HDMI outputs. One just for sound to go to the soundbar and one to run straight to the TV. The Atmos speakers are very convincing as well. All in all I couldn't be happier with the outcome of this and I would highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for a cleaner simpler solution.

Fairly easy setup. I'm using with Xbox so I had to change some setting on the xbox to make sure it is not limiting any sound quality. It feels pretty good even without a subwoofer but I am thinking of getting one to get the most out of this sound system. It worked perfectly on my TV rack but you should look up the size before you make your purchase.

The sound is excellent. It is far superior to the previous YSP-5100. The MusicCast is not a feature I use but it seems to need improvement. Since everything is "smart" these days, it is not clear whether it is better to use the pass through this YSP-5600 or connect DVD Blueray player and cable box directly to TV and just pass the sound from the TV to the YSP-5600. Still experimenting.

Bought the YSP-5600BL to replace my 7.1 system and what a great decision. The 5600 is everything it claims and more. Although it's a little on the expensive side, after watching several movies it proves to be worth every cent. It is true 7.1 Atmos soundbar, hands down the best on the market!

The audio throwing effects work better than I expected on one side. The other side we didn't hear any effects since our room is oddly shaped on that side. If you have a perfectly rectangular or square room this would actually be a great, easy to setup sound projector. Not so much if you have abnormal shaped rooms or lots of sound absorbing materials on the walls, i.e. curtains. Although Yamaha is pretty upfront about needing to have sound reflective walls.

First sound bar. Replaced an old 7.1 setup I had. Don't have it set up the way I want right now but I'm already blown away by the sound this thing puts out. The size of this thing compared to other sound bars is HUGE. Like you either need to have your TV mounted, or you going to have to prop you TV up about 10 to 12 inches above it. I believe it stands about 8 inches tall. Also, this product is not cheap. And it doesn't come with a sub woofer, which if you get the wireless adapter, can plug into almost any sub, but even then you have to buy that separately. Fair warning to anyone that is looking at getting this I'll try to do an update after I have my living room arranged the way I want it and get everything calibrated. I'm super excited that I finally got this though, have been looking at it for a couple months and Best Buy finally had it in their inventory.

Hooked this up to my home theater, and while setting it up with the wizard the test sounds sounded great and like they were coming from all areas of the room, however when listening to regular music or a movie it sounded almost hollow or tinny. Sadly had to return this item.

I blindfolded my wife to test the sound

I'm using this primarily for my new LG 1080 OLED TV. I experienced Dolby ATMOS in a local movie theater and I love the ceiling speakers and overall immersive sound. So, for home, I upgraded from a typical $300 sony 2.1 channel soundbar, which by the way, has been a great sound system for many years. This yamaha with subwoofer is $2,000. Here is what I experienced for $1,700 more: - The bass is more evenly distributed, less echo and less chaotic rumble through my living room, more crisp. - The voice is sharper, louder and more centered. - Overall, a richer surround sound experience. - However, you will not hear precise sounds above or behind you, as you would assume with the marketing of ATMOS. I blindfolded my wife and tested both the sony soundbar and this Yamaha on the same scenes in Transformers 4. All I had to do was switch the HDMI cable on the soundbars back and forth. The Yamaha was no doubt, sound immersive and crisper. You feel the sound into your bones. But is it worth the extra $1,700 over a typical soundbar? I watch primarily DirecTV, since it has a superior HD compression method than over cable, and some BluRays. The richer sound is very noticeable on BluRays that have the words DOLBY ATMOS on the disc. For regular TV, like ESPN, I don't think you will hear a huge difference, since the new Genie boxes uses the Dolby TrueHD format, not ATMOS. But, overall, a $300 soundbar is a good choice for surround sound. You pay extra just to be an early adopter and for an uptick in sound. I docked 1 star because the price should be under $1,200, not $1,599, considering the subwoofer is not included. Side Notes: - I noticed half of BluRays will have the competing DTS sound format, not Dolby. Fast and Furious 7 is DTS, and Transformers is Dolby ATMOS. They both sound great. The new Samsung ATMOS soundbar does not support DTS - just FYI. - I bought a $180 Sony 115w subwoofer and it works great with plenty of bass. Since the subwoofer is suppose to sit 3 feet to the side of your TV, I just plugged in an RCA cable. You don't need to go wireless! However, I found a problem. Only Yamaha subwoofers have the integration feature thats allows the sub to turn on / off along with the TV remote by ARC connection. Using other than Yamaha subs, your sub will be left on and wasting electricity and shortening it's life span. I just ordered the $399 Yamaha NS-SW200PN. The cheaper Yamaha that sells for $120, have reviews knocking it's music playback capabilities, which requires more power. The $249 Yamaha that looks like a mini sub, lacks a crossover frequency control knob. So, I am stuck with another overpriced Yamaha product for $399, just so I can turn it off along with my TV. - The 5600 setup process takes over an hour. You have to read the instructions to the T and re-read it several times, if you are not a techie type.

Pros: 7.1.2-channel multi-dimensional sound Full Support of 4K 60p UHD and HDCP 2.2 46 speaker ATMOS / DTS:X Continually Upgraded By Firmware HDMI 2.0a Upgraded By Firmware Future Proof Cons: Would Recommend Spending the extra Money for the Mount, Wireless adapter and Sub woofer - all add to the cost but worth it and still less than a receiver and Dolby ATMOS system
