Sometimes when the volume is up high, the system will crackle. Other than that there is good sound.

I was anticipating the unit could equalize the sound levels between commercials and programs. In fact it was the main reason for the purchase. Otherwise, it seems to be a typical sound system. Doesn't pair with my Directv remote so I'm back to 2 remotes again.

Modestly priced option to improve sound on new TVs

This is a fine option for those who need to improve the sound quality of their new ultra-thin TV with terrible speakers. It is fine for usual TV viewing. It will not be satisfying for those who are looking for a bolder, 'home theater' quality of sound.

Previously I was having trouble hearing news and other shows using the minute speakers on my TV. Now I can hear everything well. I also like that I can have the voices emphasized with the sound rather than the background noise.

Dialogue is significantly clearer using this soundbar than with television audio. It is perfect for my bedroom television.

liked it better than Bose, Bose is too much bass. I am a Bose Fan, but didn't like the sound for movies. The price was very reasonable.

The unit is visually unobtrusive and has no continuous lighted display to distract the viewer. It's just the right size to set my 40" LED TV on top. The sound is very good with bass, treble, mute, dialog enhancement and three surround settings. It is programmable to my cable box remote (volume, mute and power only). The only restriction is that you have to repeatedly press volume up or down instead of just holding the button when you use a different remote than the one it comes with. You will have to shut off your TV speakers if you use an HDMI connection because of a slight delay between TV and Zvox speakers. It's worth it. It has a volume leveler function to equalize volume extremes between commercials and programs but is not that great. No matter. I've had it for three days and will not go back. I'm packing up my amp and floor speakers. One other thing: if you use the optical audio cable (supplied) it only works with digital channels. Took me a while to figure that out since they don't mention that little detail. I'm using the RCA cables and it sounds just as good to me. I am a former professional musician and have a home recording studio and I am very happy with the sound of this unit.

Purchased this product because we were told it had more speakers,; therefore, the sound is not only amplified, but also clarified...which is what we needed for a 24" TV. There was a mesh screen on front and sound came from there. It wasn't until we got it home, that we realized most of the sound comes from the BOTTOM of the unit. That bottom---it can't be used on it's side---faces a counter, so the sound is greatly reduced!!!! We purchased the soundbar to amplify/clarify sound on the TV we purchased. Very disappointed.

Ideal choice to improve sound in a bedroom or den.

I bought this system because I wanted something compact and simple to improve the quality of the 32" Samsung TV in our master bedroom. I read the stellar reviews of the ZVOX system online and I liked that it was a simple, all-in-one unit designed to go under the TV. Placing it under the TV is cleaner is appearance and it also prevents the surround system from potentially impairing the TV's remote control functions as some sound bars can do. The 220 model has 3 forward speakers and a downward facing subwoofer all contained in the box. It is about the size of your typical Comcast HD cable box. The sound quality was much better than I expected. It has 3 different surround modes plus a dialogue enhancement function. You can also set the bass and treble volume levels. It was very easy to set up although I had to purchase a digital coax audio cable since my Samsung TV suprisingly did not have a digital optical cable out. My master bedroom is 20' x 14' and this system can put out plenty of volume without distortion for that size room. I would highly recommend this system for anyone not wanting the hassle of setting up a full 5.1 or 7.2 surround system but wanting to greatly improve the sound with movies, music, or sporting events on their TV. Don't expect it to match the feel and dimension of the surround sound you get from a really good 5.1 or 7.2 system. I have a $1,600 Pioneer / Definitive Technology surround sound system in my great room and this system isn't a replacement for that. It is a huge improvement over the sound you get from your TV's speakers and a big improvement over the sound I heard from most of the $200 to $300 sound bars I listened to in various electronics stores. You can literally go from taking it out of the box to using this system within 10 minutes. It's really a bargain at $199.

    Everything you want

This amazing box does exactly the job needed and wanted in a medium sized great room. The elegant black wood cabinet (yes, wood) looks smart and contributes to good sound and doesn't add techno-clutter to the room's decor. The matte grille disappears below the TV screen unlike other soundbars which distract with unnecessary LEDs or a dancing light show bouncing off of shiny plastic beneath the screen (bump the sound and a soft number appears behind the grille to tell you where you are then goes away, otherwise it's invisible). Setup takes about 40 seconds: optical, power and done. The cable remote easily captures the volume up, down, mute and on/off functions so it's remote can be set aside and it is on or off when the TV is. Tweaking the base-treble, clear voice and output optimizing controls found just the right sound for the room. And now we have bright highs with deep bases under clear voices while hearing the rustling of leaves, soft footsteps, the breeze and that cup being sat down.

The Zvox 220 sound base is a great little speaker system. Plenty of inputs for your devices. I currently have an TV, HD radio, and a Bluetooth receiver hooked up to it. Product comes with easy instructions, remote with batteries, and every cable you could possibly use with the sound base. The sound on this is fantastic. If you don't want to pay for the Bose Solo, this is better and half the price. You will not be disappointed.

    Great sound, small package

Was looking for a soundbar system for my bedroom TV. This TV sits in a little TV nook so I was somewhat limited by size of what I could get. I had to fit the TV, and Apple TV and a Tivo Mini all in the same space. I really like the form factor most about this system. My 32 inch HDTV sits comfortably right on top (and my Apple TV as well). Most other soundbars are, well, more like long bars. I also couldn't accomodate a separate subwoofer like a lot of other systems have (which this system does not). The other system closest to this form factor I saw was from Bose and was much more expensive. Sound quality was great. I play mostly music through my Apple TV and some TV. Very surprised by how much I enjoyed the sound of music from this system. I did find a marked improvement in sound with using the digital optical connection instead of analog. Other reviewers have noted that this system does not do any of the "official" home theater audio processing (Dolby Digital, DTS, etc). It does its own processing of the PCM audio from the digital input. This system does not fool anyone into thinking its a real surround system. However, it does a good job filling a room with sound with a fair amount of depth from a small package.

If you are trying to find a soundbar for a smaller 20" or so tv, this one is perfect. Delivers great sound and also has an setting that enhances voices for those hard of hearing. The tv sits rights on top of this soundbar.

I needed a sound base or plate for my particular installation. My options were either the ZVox 220 or Bose Solo. The ZVox was less than half the price of the Bose and my spouse really appreciated the Dialogue Emphasis feature.
