Rock'N'Roll Nightmare [Special Edition] [DVD] [1986]

It was a long time coming, but Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare finally hit DVD thanks to Synapse Films! Jon Mikl Thor's opus can now be appreciated for all of the brilliantly cheesy schlock that it is for the masses that haven't already been indoctrinated into its hardcore fan base. Incredibly, this special edition is packed with new exclusive extras that shed more light on the production, while presenting the film in such a pristine way that was once never believed possible. Accompanying the incredible high-definition widescreen transfer is a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack that pumps out the jams in surround mode or for those completists out there, the original 2.0 mono track is included as well. Features-wise, the fun starts with a candid audio commentary from Thor and director John Fasano, both of whom have a good time as they recount stories of the rushed production (which was apparently filmed in ten days). On top of that, there's an interview special with Thor as he reminisces on his career and the way that the film has continued to affect it, as well as rare behind-the-scenes footage of the filming and make-up portions of the picture. Two music videos are also on tap, plus in-depth liner notes and a brand-new intro and afterward to the film provided by Thor make this a must-have purchase for the film's devoted audience that have long worn out their VHS copies of the film.

Synopsis

Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare
The heavy metal band Triton needs a place to relax, rehearse and record their next hit album. Lead singer Jon Triton (Jon-Mikl Thor) finds the perfect spot, a lonely farmhouse in rural Canada that will allow maximum concentration and few distractions. Their record company sets up a state-of-the-art recording studio in the barn and the band arrives with girlfriends and wives in tow. Though some of the musicians grumble about being stuck in the middle of nowhere, boredom will soon be the least of their problems. What the headbangers don't realize is that this serene country homestead is haunted by the legions of Satan, and an army of shape-shifting demons are busy slaughtering the hapless rockers one by one. Since these fiendish spirits can assume the forms of their victims, the band remains unaware of the danger until only Jon is left. However, Old Scratch is the one in for a shock, for Jon Triton is much more than just a long-haired rock & roll singer; he possesses awesome powers of his own, and refuses to back down from a battle royal with Beelzebub. ~ Fred Beldin, Rovi
