Synopsis

Shooter
A top Marine sniper who previously abandoned the military after a routine mission gave way to tragedy is double-crossed by the government after reluctantly being pressured back into service in Training Day director Antoine Fuqua's adaptation of Stephen Hunter's novel Point of Impact. There was a time when Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) was the best trigger-man in the military, but after growing disillusioned with the system, he disappeared without a trace. When high-profile government officials locate him at his remote mountain retreat following an extensive search, Swagger is coerced back into service in order to stop a determined assassin from taking out the President of the United States. In the process of carrying out his mission, however, Swagger suddenly realizes that he has been betrayed when he becomes the subject of a nationwide manhunt. Now wounded and desperate to reveal the culprits behind the conspiracy before it's too late, Swagger sets into motion a revenge plan that will send shock waves rippling to some of the most powerful and corrupt leaders in the free world. Danny Glover, Rhona Mitra, and Ned Beatty co-star in this conspiracy-driven action thriller that asks what it truly means to serve one's country. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    Confusing

There are several male actors that I love to watch because of their looks and/or their acting, and I will usually buy any movie that they are in. Mark Wahlberg is one of these actors for me, so I was excited when Shooter was available on DVD. Fortunately, I decided to rent it first before buying it. I liked the actors, the plot, and the action, but Mark Wahlberg spoke so softly and often slurred or mumbled his words that I had trouble understanding what he was saying. And a lot of the dialogue was in military jargon - codes, numbers, abbreviations - and I had no idea what they were talking about. I started the movie over a few times and turned up my volume to see if it helped which it didn't. Then I finally changed the setup to include subtitles and watched the whole movie while I read them. That is the only way I could understand what the characters were saying which is annoying. Good actors and good action are not enough to make a 4 star movie, and Shooter proves it. I would watch it again but I won't buy it.

This is one of those movies that, when I'm channel surfing, I always stop surfing to watch. It doesn't matter how many times I've seen it. This is Mark Wahlberg at his I'm-a-good-guy-but-don't-mess-with-me best, playing opposite bad guy Danny Glover, who sets him up for a big fall for an attempted assassination. Michael Peña is an FBI agent who smells something funny about how quickly the evidence was gathered and decides to dig deeper for the truth. With Peña and Kate Mara (widow of Wahlberg's fellow soldier) protecting his flanks, Mark sets about proving his innocence and seeing that the bad guys get what they deserve. I didn't care that some of the plot elements were over the top--it was just fun to watch. It must have been, because I already owned the DVD, but bought the Blu-Ray version anyway.

Mediocre Film That's Full of Clichés.

Shooter is the type of movie you watch when there’s nothing else to do, on a Saturday night. The film is full of endless clichés; the man who’s framed, the cop (in this case FBI agent) who helps him, and far-fetched situations among other things. This film doesn’t have anything fresh to bring to the genre, but I must admit I had a good time, even with the obvious political message the director was trying to get across. The performances were mediocre at best, I’m not a big fan of Wahlberg because he always tries to play the “bad boy” and that ship has sailed. Danny Glover on the other hand should have been nominated for most annoying performance of the year. Overall, this film is second rate and there are so many better films that have the same concept. I would barely recommend it just because of the action.

Marine Scout Sniper, Bob Lee Swagger, played by actor Mark Wahlberg, is set up by a multinational corporation to take a fall for an assassination of an African nation politician! Through sheer grit and determination, and the help of Swagger's new girlfriend and a FBI Agent who believes he is innocent, he overcomes a slew of killers, an evil multinational corporation, and treachery that goes all the way to a US Senator! Plenty of action with guns, bombs, and blowing helicopters out of the sky! I also recommend the Bob Lee Swagger series of books! Check them out!!

I'd never watching the movie, but I've been a fan of the series since it's debut. In the back of my mind I knew that I needed to watch the movie and I was thrilled when I saw it immersed in the bargain rack! After FINALLY watching the movie I can understand why they were so quick to develop it into a tv series. It's a big weird watching Wahlberg as Bob Lee, I had to keep reminding myself that in actuality Ryan Phillipe is the imposter.

I enjoyed this film, as I do most Mark Wahlberg films. SPOILER ALERT: I knew he was going to get set up from the moment he walked away from Danny Glover's character. Didn't ruin the film for me though. As with others in this Steelbook line. The inside art is nothing to write home about. The backs of these also have quotes from the films. Pretty basic design for a Steelbook. Over all I like the line though.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Bob Lee Swagger, an ex Marine Corps sniper who leaves the military after a mission goes bad. Later he's called back into service, and is double-crossed again. With two bullets in him and the subject of a nationwide manhunt, Swagger begins his revenge, which will take down the most powerful people in the country. Danny Glover and the lovely Kate Mara, along with Mark make for an arresting cast. The blu-ray sound is incredible. We watched it twice in a weekend, it's that good.

I was looking forward to seeing this movie when I bought it, but it was a pretty big disappointment. Danny Glover was awful as the "villain," I liked him in the Lethal Weapon movies but this was a stretch for him. The biggest letdown of the movie for me was the ending. I won't give it away, but it was a real lazy way to end this picture. I know the movie was based on a book and maybe that's how the book ends, but I still think it deserved a better ending. It's entertaining, but not worth seeing more than once.
