Cat6a Ethernet cables are designed to reduce crosstalk and provide more consistent performance across longer cable runs, making them a practical option for a new 10 Gigabit network installation. Both categories use familiar RJ45 connectors and can work with lower-speed Ethernet equipment, although the connection will operate at the highest speed supported by the connected devices and cabling. Selecting the best 10 Gigabit Ethernet cable for your setup involves more than choosing a cable labeled for fast networking. 10GBASE-T is an Ethernet standard for transmitting 10 Gigabit Ethernet over twisted-pair copper cabling. Cat6a is a common cable category used for 10GBASE-T networks. The term describes the networking standard, while Cat6a describes the cabling category.

Cat6a Ethernet patch cables typically use RJ45 connectors, the familiar eight-contact plugs found on many wired networking devices.
