Look for features such as labeled outlets, individual outlet switches, cable-management clips, and mounting options. These can make it easier to organize a router, modem, and other networking accessories in one place.
Use reusable cable ties or clips to group cords, and label each power adapter with the device it belongs to. Keeping power cords and Ethernet cables in separate groups can make connections easier to identify when rearranging your setup.
Individually switched outlets let you turn connected devices on or off separately rather than using one master switch for every outlet. In a networking setup, this gives you separate power controls for devices such as a router and modem.
Built-in USB ports provide charging connections for compatible devices without requiring a separate wall adapter. They do not serve as Ethernet connections or add networking capabilities to your router. Routers that require a dedicated power adapter still need that adapter.
Depending on the model, smart surge protectors may offer app controls, schedules, or voice-assistant integration for selected outlets. If you turn off the outlet powering your router, Wi-Fi-based controls may become unavailable until the router is back online.
