The DI Series feature Definitive Technology's most advanced technologies such as BDSS drivers and pivoting Pure Aluminum dome tweeters for spectacular audio performance far beyond traditional flush-mount speakers. Definitive’s exclusive Balanced Dual Surround System (BDSS) driver technology permits these new flush mounts to deliver more bass output and dynamic range than larger drivers. For example, the 4-1/2" driver-based model has the bass and dynamics of a 5-1/4" traditional speaker, while the 5-1/4" performs like a traditional 6-1/2". Pure Aluminum dome tweeter featuring a specially shaped housing that avoids the diffraction distortions of traditional post mounted tweeters, and a sophisticated adjustable crossover network, the DI Series delivers the kind of lifelike sonic performance and broad even dispersion that you've come to expect from Definitive Technology.

I started shopping for these almost a year ago when our house was under construction. I went to Best Buy to compare their in ceiling speakers. The Best Buy person recommended Sonance speakers, but the DI 6.5Rs just sounded much better. I felt the Sonance MAG series speakers sounded very muddy. I ended up buying 4 of these for the great room. First, installation was a breeze. I was a little nervous taking a drywall saw to my new ceiling, but the template made things simple. I had run the speaker wires before the drywall went up, so that part of the task was already complete. I did use, and highly recommend, XTC 10 inch speaker baffles that create a protective cavity in the ceiling. With the holes cut, the baffles in place, the speakers just slid into place and the 4 tabs are holding the speakers nice and snug. Just don't overtighten the screws. The magnetic grills snapped into place, leaving a clean, stealthy installation (see photo). I hooked these up to a Yamaha RX-V4A. Not the highest end AVR, but acceptable for my needs in this room. The sound is already good and I am sure that will improve as they break in. My only concern is the bass. As you can see from the photo, the room is rather large. I am considering adding a subwoofer. I am not a big bass person, I keep my subwoofer in my theater room pretty low. I just feel a subwoofer will help these speakers fill the room with the low end. Overall I am very happy with these speakers and I will be installing two more of these as my Atmos height speakers in my theater room. I knocked off 1 star in value, due to the price. Perhaps it was the sticker shock of buying four of these at once.

Sounds good, can play loud and it's clear. Lacks low end ulbut that is expected for the size/location.

Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS): Definitive Technology's unique BDSS driver design delivers wider frequency range and better sound dispersion than typical in-ceiling speakers. Pivoting tweeter: Adjust the orientation of the 1-inch aluminum tweeter to direct sound for optimal listening. Paintable grilles: Customize the grilles to perfectly match your ceiling. Easy installation: Robust mounting system and clear instructions make installation a breeze. Sound Quality One of the standout features of the DI 6.5R is its ability to deliver big, full-range sound that belies its size. The bass is surprisingly punchy, the mids are clear and detailed, and the highs sparkle without harshness. These speakers are ideal for filling a room with immersive sound, whether you're enjoying movies in a home theater setting or simply listening to music. Design The DI 6.5R boasts a flangeless design and a micro-perf grille that minimizes their visual impact. Once painted, they become almost invisible, allowing you to enjoy premium sound without drawing attention to your ceiling. Ease of Use Installing the DI 6.5R is a straightforward process. The mounting system is secure and easy to handle, making it an accessible project even for those without extensive DIY experience. Value The Definitive Technology DI 6.5R delivers excellent value for its price point. You're getting a speaker that combines great sound performance with a discreet, adaptable design. Overall If you want high-quality audio from an in-ceiling speaker that's easy to install and disappears into your decor, the Definitive Technology DI 6.5R is an excellent choice. These speakers are ideal for both the dedicated home theater enthusiast and those looking to enhance their home's audio setup.
