    Synopsis

Season 13 finds the creative staff trying to keep up with a changing culture: Homer becomes addicted to medical marijuana, Moe renovates his bar to appeal to hipsters and Bart starts an online comic based on his father. On the sillier side of things, the episode "Tales From the Public Domain" takes the stories of Odysseus, Joan of Arc and Hamlet and plugs members of the Simpsons family into them. Prominent guest stars this season include Reese Witherspoon, who voices a girl both Bart and his best friend Milhouse fall for, and Richard Gere, who gives spiritual advice to Lisa after she decides to convert to Buddhism. ~ Jack Rodgers

The beginning of the NOT really funny years

Well, here we are now with the release of the 13th season of The Simpson's. This was the beginning of bad trends in the show & Fox. 1. The shows were NOT as funny as before, showing its age trying anything as a reason for a show 2. The years Treehouse of Horror aired AFTER Halloween due to starting the season late. Baseball. How many years did it take Fox to figure out what a mistake this was BUT they still now show, Treehouse AFTER Halloween. For the 2cd year in a row due to the chain store I purchased this from I was FORCED to purchase the collectors edition. I do NOT like these for myself, I just want the normal regular DVD package. Standard normal extras on this season. Even though the show was not as funny as it once was when you have an episode with Yoda & briefly Tinker Bell it can not be all bad. The DVD’s are hard to remove from the package. The booklet with episode list CAME FOLDED INSIDE. Gee, thanks Fox for that. High priced & damaged. IF you are a true Simpson's fan buy the season.

Well, growing up I was a BIG fan of the Simpsons. I had tape (VHS) after tape of episodes recorded as was always watching them. However, right about the time this season aired, I really stopped watching the new episodes. The quality of the episodes writing and over all comedic value really dropped off. Yea, there are a few really good classic episodes, and some funny moments here and there, but NOTHING close to the quality of the first 12 seasons (even 12 wasn't as good). Some say the show had been on so long it had nowhere left to go. Some say they sacrificed quality to try to add more crudeness and edgyness to compete with South Park. Some of that may be true, but I agree with others that say the new Exec. Producer, Al Gene, began to drive the show into the ground. If you are a die hard fan, it's worth picking up. I ripped them to my HDD and deleted the bad ones. To me, there are only 8 episodes of "The Simpsons" in season 13.

Alot of the reviews I read, mainly on Amazon, complained about producers and writers destroying the franchise and that their best years are behind them at this point. I will say, it is harder for them to have "new" experiences, but I think they did an awesome job none the less. The animation is certianlly more polished than previous seasons, and the path to the main story line is a little drunk, but they stay consistant with the characters strengths that we've all come to love. The Ralph extras were pretty cool too.

On blu-ray the Simpsons look amazing! You get the entire series on 3 discs instead of four with dvds. I love the Halloween special "House of Whacks" which is a parody of the horror movie "Demon Seed" and "2001 A Space Odyssey". Pierce Brosnan plays the voice of a house that is run by an automated machine. He is in love with Marge and tries to get rid of Homer. A ton of special features. Hours of content! You"ll love it!

As a fan from the start of this series, I have been buying each and every season on DVD that I can. This season has a few episodes that are not at the top of the list for the quality I am used to seeing, but the vast majority of season 14 is definitely worthwhile. This really is a must for Simpsons fans looking to beef up their DVD library!

The show may have begun to show a decline in quality. The crisp animation started to take away some charm but the humor was still there. The bonus features are great. The commentaries alone show that the creators really care about the show

I'm been a Simpsons fan since 1989. I admit that sometimes the plot might not be the best, but for a program that has been on over 20 years it is still good.
