Synopsis

The second series of Russell T. Davies' Doctor Who spin-off begins with the return of Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Torchwood's enigmatic leader, who mysteriously vanished in the Season 1 finale. The team has plenty of questions regarding his whereabouts, but they'll have to wait. There's a more pressing issue at hand -- the arrival of Jack's old partner Capt. John Hart (James Marsters), a rogue Time Agent with an unclear agenda. Season 2 finds the Torchwood team encountering people from the 51st century and World War I, including a handsome soldier whom Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori) falls for; a memory thief who reveals hidden secrets about each of them; and an entity that may actually be Death itself. There is also a Doctor Who crossover with the Doctor's companion Martha Jones (Freema Agyeman), who arrives in Cardiff to help investigate a series of mysterious deaths. A darker side of Torchwood comes to light later in the season when Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) probes the disappearance of some local teens and Jack demands she call off her investigation, obstructing her attempts to find them. And it's finally revealed how Capt. Jack, Toshiko, Owen Harper (Burn Gorman), and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) came to join the Torchwood team. On the relationship front, Gwen's fiancé Rhys Williams (Kai Owen) finally learns the truth about her day job. They eventually tie the knot, but not without an alien shape shifter threatening to ruin their big day. And it's revealed that Tosh has feelings for Owen, which may not be reciprocated, and the relationship between Jack and Ianto runs deeper than a friendship. ~ Karen Andzejewicz

This is easily one of my favorite shows! Technically it started as a doctor who spinoff but you can watch it as a stand alone without Doctor Who ( but in my opinion you're missing out). James Barrowman plays Capt. Jack Harkness leader of a group of supernatural police. It is a British show and takes place in London and Wales. If you already own it definitely make the jump to blu-ray. It looks gorgeous! I bought the whole BBC series on blu-ray and it is amazing! I watch it all the time, sometimes I just pick out my favorite episodes and kill sometime watching them. If you're a Doctor Who fan this is a must have, even if you're just looking for a fun supernatural series I recommend this show!

Torchwood seasons two continues in the same edgy and thrilling vein as season one. It is too much fun and very exciting. Capt. Jack's character continues to raise questions in the viewers mind as to who and what he really is. Be ready for some interesting encounters The story lines are fantastic and reveal why British tv is better than ours!

Torchwood is the name of a not-so-secret organization that deals with whatever or whoever comes out of the Rift in space and time that it situated right over the city of Cardiff, Wales. The show manages once again to balance very real tragedy with a sense of fun and hope. Great show and amazing cast.

Excellent series, even better than the first. Jack is less brooding, Gwen is more butt-kicking, Ianto gets all the best lines, Martha joins the fight, Owen struggles with his zombification, and Tosh gets the boys in the end. Episodes include a lot of sci-fi gore, Jack/Ianto action, and the best Welsh drama available on the BBC.

I found that Season 2 was not as gripping as season 1; primarily the continuing storyline didn't grab me. But the characters are fun. Those characters not developed well in Season 1 are more developed Season 2. I would recommend this, but only if you find a good $$$ deal on it like I did.

One of the great things about this off-shoot of Dr Who is that it isn't afraid to continue its stories at the expense of some series favorites. Always keeps you entertained and always leaves you wanting more. Great collection.

Series 1 is somewhat "monster-of-the-week" and there isn't really an overarching plot, with the exception of a few episodes. Series 2 improves on this slightly, but each episode is of a much higher quality.
