What is In-Wall Power Extension service? Can I use this to have my plug-in moved closer to the TV power cord?

Our In-Wall Power Extension (IWPE) installation allows video and audio products to be plugged in directly behind your TV. However, fire code regulations prevent a TV power cord from plugging into this extension (see the previous question for details about installing a new outlet). The cost for In-Wall Power Extension varies, so please call 1-800-433-5778 to get an estimate for your installation. You can also take advantage of our freeIn-Home Consultation.Note:This service does not include modification of existing outlets or any high voltage wiring. You must arrange for any required electrical modifications to be made before we may install an IWPE kit.

How long will the installation take?

When you schedule your service, your appointment time will fall within a 12-hour window. Your installer(s) will call you the day of your appointment to provide a more precise arrival time. While there are a number of factors that can affect the length of an appointment, a standard TV Mounting and Installation job usually lasts between 90 and 120 minutes.

Which mounts are compatible with my TV?

Nearly all TVs are VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) compliant, which means they have a standard hole pattern for mounting onto a bracket. You likely won't have to worry about it, but you can confirm that a TV mount is VESA compliant by reading your TV’s instruction manual, or by consulting with us prior to the day of installation.

Can you install a TV mount into any wall material?

Yes, we can install into almost any kind of wall material and will let you know if there are obstacles to doing so. There is no extra charge for installing a TV mount into a standard-frame wall with drywall. For mounting a TV above a fireplace or to harder materials, such as brick, concrete, stone, cinder block etc., there will be an extra charge of $129.99. Can I mount a TV above my fireplace?

This is a common installation for us. However, wall material like brick and the location of your fireplace to your home theater equipment can make it more of a challenge. For these harder materials, such as brick, concreate, stone, cinder block and hollow block, there will be an extra charge. Also, keep in mind that the placement might be too high for comfortable or clear viewing, and heat damage could become an issue. How high should my TV be mounted?

When choosing where to mount a TV, you need to think about more than just aesthetics. If you mount your TV too high, for example, you might find that it causes neck strain, or that your view of the screen isn't optimal. We can help you take these many factors into account, including how many people will be watching at one time, whether you'll be lying down, sitting up or standing, screen size, room aesthetics and potential glare from any windows when you decide where to place your TV. Can I reuse my existing mounting hardware with my new TV?

You will need to determine if your existing mount is VESA compliant. VESA is a standard that is used for TV mounting brackets, and it is followed by the majority of TV manufacturers. This means that new TVs conform to a set of standards for the four mounting holes located on the back of each TV. The VESA Mounting Interface Standard defines the distance in millimeters between a TV's mounting holes (distance horizontally x distance vertically). Common VESA sizes are 200 x 200 for TVs up to 32" class, VESA 400 x 400 for TVs up to 60" class and VESA 600 x 400 for larger screen sizes (e.g. 75" class or 85" class). After you remove your old TV, measure the distances between the holes on the back of the TV. Then check your new TV manual for the VESA standard to see whether your old TV wall mount is compatible. If it's not, or if the weight of your new TV is drastically different, you'll likely need to purchase a new TV wall mount. Also, be aware that we will not uninstall an existing TV mount from its current location and install it into a new location.

Will you hook up my soundbar or receiver to my TV as part of this service?

I forgot to purchase a product that's needed for the installation. Can you help?

Typically, yes, we will have a variety of products in their vehicle that can be purchased at the time of your installation. Quantity, availability and selection will vary.Note:Depending on your location, one of our trusted third-party contractors may be used for your service instead of Geek Squad.

Q: Will you program my remote control as part of this service?

Q: What kind of HDMI cable should I buy? How long should it be?

To find the proper length HDMI cable to fit your needs, make sure to consider the distance between your TV and your HD components. You should choose in-wall rated cable if you plan to run your connections through walls (for example, when the TV is mounted and you want a clean look). Look for cables that come with extra-tight connectors, which are important for keeping things secure when using products like a full-motion TV mount. More expensive cables are made of higher-quality materials and come with a higher data transfer speed rating measured in gigabits per second (Gbps). This allows more bandwidth for streaming 4K Ultra HD and HDR content and helps to ensure signal purity, which is especially important when running cable over longer distances.

Q: Are you able to hide all of the cables?

By selecting TV Setup & Mounting, all of your in-wall rated cables will be hidden if your TV is directly above your video components, and the installation will occur in a single space between the wall studs. If home theater equipment needs to be located away from your TV, this will complicate the in-wall installation and require a custom solution to be ordered, which may require an additional charge. Your TV power cord cannot be hidden in-wall because of electrical and fire code regulations, but we can use an In-Wall Power Extension kit or cable concealer if needed. Q: Do I need to have a power outlet near the location in which my TV will be mounted?

Yes, for video cables to be concealed within the wall, you will need to have an electrical outlet behind the TV location for the TV to be plugged into for power. If you do not have an outlet behind the TV location, we can use an In-Wall Power Extension Kit or cable concealer for a professional look. Be aware that an outlet is needed within 12 feet of the TV location to install an In-Wall Power Extension Kit or cable cover. Our mounting service does not include the modification of existing outlets or any high voltage wiring. You must arrange for any required electrical modifications to be made before we arrive if an outlet needs to be installed closer to the mounting location. I purchased a 55" TV and mount from Best Buy and had arranged for a well-reputed, supposedly highly skilled and experienced handyman to do the installation above a fireplace. When I spoke with him about the install, he recommended that I return the mount and exchange it for a different one, which I did. When he came to do the install, he told me that the new mount I'd bought would not work and recommended yet another one. I went back to Best Buy and made the exchange again, and he completed the installation. However, the gap behind the TV was excessive, the wires were very visible and messy, and the TV was crooked. I went back to Best Buy and this time spent some time with a customer service rep., who recommended a different mount and arranging the installation with the Geek Squad. Terrance and Mike came today, removed the old mount and replaced it with the new one. The install is perfect, much flusher to the wall and no messy wiring visible. The process was quick, and they were very efficient, informative and personable. While the price for this installation was not inexpensive, I only wish I'd started with the Geek Squad and not wasted time and money with a handyman who had exaggerated his expertise and experience.

The agents arrived promptly on time and they communicated on the day of the installation in advance. They unmounted my old tv and mounted the new tv in a short time. They were thorough and asked a few questions on at what height the tv should be mounted etc. They helped connecting the cables and did a demo on how to wade thread the menus. Once done, they cleaned up the boxes. They were very professional throughout and I liked their service very much.

People come install my TV. They were extremely careful, very professional, They covered their shoes to enter my house. They explained everything to us perfectly. They didn't leave until we fully understood the BIG SCREEN options. The handling of the device was carefully handled and the installation was wonderfully fast and Super professional. They even finished putting my things back as they were at the beginning of their arrival and took away the cardboard and trash! I didn't have to worry about anything after installation! They did the complete set up of my TV!! I really recommend it, we are very happy.

I can only make one point in reviewing the experience with the Geek Squad setup of my 75” tv, perfection will be hard to obtain at this point given the process was as close to perfect as I could have expected. From the pre delivery call saying that they were on their way to their departure less than thirty minutes after arrival. When they arrived I asked them if they sat down the street waiting for the exact time they said that they would be here. Not only were they quick but efficient and courteous. I did not feel as if they were pushing me to get to the next job as they answered the couple questions I had, not making me feel like I was imposing. And oh yeah, they even wore the little bootie things. Seriously though, good luck topping that service!

Nothing but amazing. A couple months prior, I bought a 75 inch tv along with a mount, but unfortunately the mount came later than Geek Squad. Luckily they already had one with them and of course, I purchased that as well. Like I mentioned earlier, the original mount I bought came after Geek Squad installed my 75 inch. So I decided to keep the original mount for my bedroom tv. I’ll admit before they left, John did notice a loose screw, which had me nervous for a moment, but he tightened it before leaving. Also, he took the time to explain to me how to use the mount that was used. That would make it two times Geek Squad has done an in home theater service for me and I love both the outcomes! John, thank you for helping my vision come to life in my home! It’s moments like these when a person should have cash on them to tip. I love both of my mounted TV’s!
