X-Men:First-Class is Tops!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. What can I say? X-Men: First-Class (2011) IS my favorite of all the X-Men movies! X-Men: First Class 2011 has the best most consistent cinematography! And the best storyline! Mind you, I "liked" seeing the very first three (3) X-Men movies of the Yr. 2000, 2003, and 2006. But they all seemed a little "schlocky" to me. And they STILL do! The script-writing in the three early X-Men films, while not bad nor atrocious, left a little something more to be desired in order to be remembered! -- which is the basis for most my DVD purchases. One must want to really see a movie again! And maybe again and again and again! I liked the three (3) very early X-Men Films because they introduced the characters for the first time (and their respective powers),... but their stories were nothing like the 2011 X-Men: First Class, which is the Origin Story of BEFORE Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr Became Professor X and Magneto! In 2011, Jennifer Lawrence is getting better and better with each film she acts in. And -- excellent performance actor, "bad-guy" Kevin Bacon, --rounds out the "non-schlocky" cast of heavyweight actors, Rose Byrne and Oliver Platt in the perfect gravitas- X-Men-film of 2011! [Note: X-Men:Days of Future Past(2014) with Patrick Stewart has TOO much gravitas! and poor lighting/ poor camera work in too many scenes!] [AND, X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) is a little bit too scatter-shot in it's cinematographic overall effect!] The only 5-Star X-Men films after 2011 that I really like as much as X-Men: First Class (2011), is X-Men: DARK PHOENIX (2019), the Jean Gray Origin film! NOT 2014's Days Of Future Past. NOT 2016's X-Men:Apocalypse. NOT any of the other origin films of Wolverine, Logan Origin films, nor the highly entertaining comedic Deadpool films. ALL these latter post-2011 films ALL have their memorable moments, pleasures and charms, but X-Men: DARK PHOENIX (the Jean Gray Origin film) is the only one I have chosen to see four (4X) in theatres! ALL the other films are well-done to varying degrees, but none have that specially good riveting quality of needing and wanting to see it again and again -- as do X-Men: First Class and Dark Phoenix. For sure, sometimes the script and cinematography in these other X-Men films are just not as good -- as in X-Men: APOCALYPSE (which is my 3rd Runner-Up Choice of DVD to purchase)! Other times that particular X-Men film script is just plain not as good or JUST PLAIN LOUSY! There, that's what I can say! I'll give these other X-men movies from 1 Star to 3.5 Stars. But only these two -- X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Dark Phoenix get 5.0+ Stars from me!

Great Price for a Great Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this movie on sale on Black Friday and was pleased with the price for it being the combo+digital copy. I would have purchased it at a higher price if not for budgetary restrictions so I was ecstatic to see it featured on Black Friday. As for the movie itself, this is my personal favorite entry so far in the whole of Fox's X-Men verse. I was a kid when the original trilogy was released so I do have some nostalgic connection to those, but this film still trumps those because of how unique it is as an origin story in the super-genre. The characters' struggles and personalities are allowed to be fleshed out and the weaving of real-world events with the existence of mutants is interesting. The period-piece aspect is super fun too. While Days of Future Past is also a really fun entry and I have yet to know if Apocalypse will surpass this one in terms of overall quality, First Class will probably always have a really fond spot in my heart among all of the X-Men films and I would recommend it to anyone.

Incredible move that left me wanting more
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie was very good. I was impressed by the depth of emotions the actors portrayed and the level of story they managed to squeeze in without it feeling crowded. This is a side to the characters I haven't previously been able to see and I found it quite compelling. Despite the vast amount of action and violence, the movie managed to balance it well with just enough humor. The cameos throughout the movie were a fun Easter egg for fans of the original trilogy. The movie had me wishing there were more to watch. My only complaint was with the actual stream itself. Despite being an HD rental, there were moments that the picture was blurry or grainy. Toward the end in a pivotal scene, the picture and sound kept jumping around taking me out of the action a bit. I won't take stars away because the movie itself was phenomenal, but I wish I had been able to watch it on bluray instead of the unreliable Amazon stream.

Great Xmen movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First Class is a very good xmen movie, some may say the best. I still love e first two xmen movies though they were never as big as I always thought an xmen movie should be. First class introduces us to Charles Xavier and Erik Lenscher as young men. The two actors who play them are honestly the best parts of the movie, especially Fassbender (Magneto). The story is also great, setting the movie in the 1960s which is actually when the original xmen comics were introduced. The issues I have with this film is the actual first class themselves. The original line up of xmen were cyclops, jean grey, beast, iceman, and angel. Here we only get beast and a female character nicknamed angel... Kinda lame. The other issue I have with this film is continuity. One example is how in the original xmen movie, Charles states he and Erik meet when they are teenagers. In this film they meet in their 30s. Though this isn't a big issue there are a bunch of other continuity issues. All in all the movie is pretty entertaining. It still kind of follows the mediocre fight the villain at the end comic book stuff. But what sets it apart from other comic book movies is it's setting and it's inclusion of what's going on at the time, like the Cuban missile crisis. Very cool.

Steelbook!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Since The Flash began one full week ahead of Arrow and Supergirl, the already-complicated sharing of one timeline and universe had an extra snag. Fortunately, taking the week off now means that The Flash will air an episode on both Tuesday, December 4th, and then another to lead off the three-night "Elseworlds" crossover on December 9th. As a result, this year's crossover will be played out across the ninth episodes of all three shows. Or, to look at it another way, fans are getting to enjoy TWO episodes of The Flash in one week come December, instead of going a week without, just so Arrow and Supergirl could catch up.

The Mutants Reboot!!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Apocalypse is upon us for the upcoming X-Men entry, arriving in theatres this May. In need to catch up or collect along with Days of Future Past, then don't hesitate, X-Men First Class is definitely worthy for purchase. The origin of the main mutant heroes and villains is presented in "Black Bar" Widescreen ratio, in near-perfect quality though makes some of the technical elements apparent and distracting. The soundtrack mix is excellent to behold from captivating banter between Xavier and Magneto to Henry Jackman's amazing score sounding off along with impactful action climax. The combo pack contains plenty of behind-the-scenes extras, a DVD copy and a digital copy of the film to your heart's content.

The Best X-Men Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.X-Men First Class is by far the best film of the franchise. This was actually the second time I purchased the film because I wanted to get the Steelbook cover. The casting of James McAvoy and Michael Fastbender was perfect. I believe these are the only 2 individuals who could capture the essence of the characters that Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen had so perfectly portrayed. Apart from the casting, the film being set in the 60's really helped give the movie a new twist that was exciting. And after years of black leather costumes, it was so cool to finally get a hint of the original X-Men costumes with the very cool looking blue and yellow costumes.
