I love Mel Brooks films and this one, thanks to my wife who also loves this one, is number two on my list of his films. NUMBER ONE BLAZING SADDLES. Mel Found the original Frankenstein set to shoot this, and that kind of detail makes this film so funny. Why? Because it's so believable. The sound and the Black and White and on and on. I hurt from laughing.

Up grade to this Blu-ray Version?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Should you upgrade to the Blu-ray verison? Compared to the 1998 DVD, this Blu-ray edition has a much more detailed picture and improved contrast, along with an unfortunate high level of picture grain. The previous DVD was in a16x9 Letterboxed picture format which did not fill the viewing screen. Curiously, the Blu-ray picture is cropped compared to the DVD, so a noticeable portion of the picture is missing around the edges. Perhaps the next edition will improve upon the short comings of this current Blu-ray. But, for now, at least the price is affordable! Positively Recommended!

Excellent comedic version of Frankenstein
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's a great, awesome movie to watch with a cast of greats like Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman and the lovely Teri Garr. It's an awesome, comedic version of the original Frankenstein of 1910. Teri Garr was absolutely ravishing at 27. I was 15 when the movie was released and every young boy of the day was in love with her. It's such a great movie that's clean for all audiences. There are some mild adult innuendos but the younger crowd isn't likely to catch them. Sit down to a great, old funny movie!

Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, how can you go wrong?
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have never seen the movie, it is in B&W. It's considered a comedy horror, particularly a parody of the various versions of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. An epic cast - Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, Peter Boyle, Cloris Leachman, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, and Gene Hackman among many others, directed by Mel Brooks. One of Wilder's most successful films. In 2003, it was deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the United States National Film Preservation Board, and selected for preservation in the Library of Congress National Film Registry. It's a Blu-ray, which I didn't realize when I purchased it, and all I have is an ~15 year old DVD player, so now it's time to upgrade to a Blu-ray player. A very good excuse to do so.

Still A Comic Masterpiece 40 Years On
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw this movie on opening day at the Coronet Theatre on East 57th Street, New York City in December 1974. Mel Brooks, cast and crew are thoroughly deserving of the many accolades over the years. Pure Genius! Rendered in Black-and-White as the original "Frankenstein" (1931) and using the original laboratory set equipment, Brooks recreated a wonderful playground set for his zany, inspired cast. The Blu-Ray's 40th Anniversary added features and interviews are a tremendous value. Most enjoyable and informative for this film buff. So many wonderful memories and laughs from the performances of Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr, Gene Wilder, Cloris Leachman and even, Gene Hackman showing his comedy chops. Do not miss this!

"Put...ze candle...bek!"
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. One of the funniest movies ever. A true classic in both comedy and horror. A great cast combined with a dark, 30's era horror background make this movie not only funny, but interesting to look at as well. When you combine the talents of Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Marty Feldman, Teri Garr and Peter Boyle with guest appearances by Gene Hackman and Cloris Leachman, it's almost impossible to go wrong. Add in Mel Brooks and everything just falls into place. To see it in the crystal clarity of Blu-Ray is a real treat. If you've never experienced this movie, do yourself a favor, and take the time to watch it. You'll be glad you did.
