Altan - The Gap Of Dreams - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

2015 from the veteran Irish band. With a career at the pinnacle of Irish music for nearly 35 years Altan has achieved legendary status in a genre that has been equally shaped by the band's influence and genius. On THE WIDENING GYRE, the band explores the musical relationship between American roots music and the traditional music of Ireland. It's the first full project Altan has recorded in Nashville, and working under the guiding hand of producer and Compass co-founder Garry West, the album pairs these Irish masters with some of the leading lights of American folk and bluegrass music, many of whom the members of Altan have known for years. The resulting music is completely engaging, simultaneously breaking new ground and reminding listeners of the ancient bond between Irish and Appalachian music. Includes guest appearances by Mary Chapin Carpenter, Darol Anger, Alison Brown, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Todd Phillips Tim O'Brien and others.

Expanded CD reissue contains the bonus track, InchAndy Dixon's/Ríl Chois Claidigh/The Swilly Reel,Inch previously only available on the Japanese . Originally released in 2005, Compass Records is proud to re-issue Altan's 10th studio album, Local Ground. The renowned Irish traditionalists have always celebrated and valued the InchlocalInch in their music, realizing that music can be said to be of and from a place. This celebration of place is important to Altan; they're always aware of their geographical and musical roots in Donegal, way up in the northwest of Ireland. Donegal is a place of great beauty, and the rugged landscape is reflected both in the character of the people and in the music, culture and language of it's people. After over three decades, Altan retain the energy and enthusiasm that originally shaped and propelled their music, with friendships that have been forged and proven in innumerable kitchen and pub sessions from their beginnings in Ireland to concert halls and stages throughout the world. Their dynamic live shows continue to convey a pride and respect for a tradition leading to global recognition as ambassadors for the musical heritage they love.

Kristin Korb is a jewel of jewels. The bassist and vocalist commands both of her instruments with panache, engaging them simultaneously with an ease comparable to breathing. (Tyran Grillo, All About Jazz) There are few bassists who can sing and there are even fewer who can do it well. Kristin Korb is one of those artists who make you forget that she is playing the bass when you hear her crystalline voice. Inspired by the days when music was romantic and made you want to dance, Kristin and her trio embody that spirit and carry their audiences along for the ride. Love eventually brought the American bassist and vocalist to Denmark in 2011. On her new , Kristen Korb explores the Holiday season, performing traditional classics as well as twentieth century new classics
