Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues - VINYL LP
5.0(2)

Like very nearly every worthwhile thing, making this album was not easy; it was a difficult second album to make. Drawing inspiration from folk/rock from about 1965 to 1973, and Van Morrisons ASTRAL WEEKS in particular, HELPLESSNESS BLUES sees Fleet Foxes heighten and extend themselves, adding instrumentation (clarinet, the music box, pedal steel guitar, lap steel guitar, Tibetan singing bowls, vibraphone, etc., along with more traditional band instrumentation), with a focus on clear, direct lyrics, and an emphasis on group vocal harmonies. We have it on good authority that the album is called HELPLESSNESS BLUES for at least a couple of reasons. One, it's kind of a funny title. Secondly, one of the prevailing themes of the album is the struggle between who you are and who you want to be or who you want to end up, and how sometimes you are the only thing getting in the way of that. Having heard HELPLESSNESS BLUES, we mean to get out of it's way. Album Tracks 1. Montezuma 2. Bedouin Dress 3. Sim Sala Bim 4. Battery Kinzie 5. The Plains/Bitter Dancer 6. Helplessness Blues 1. The Cascades 2. Lorelei 3. Someone You'd Admire 4. The Shrine/An Argument 5. Blue Spotted Tail 6. Grown Ocean

Stevie Wonder - Innervisions - VINYL LP
5.0(4)

Ranked 23/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The sixteenth album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973 on Motown Records; a landmark recording of his Inchclassic periodInch. The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues from drug abuse in InchToo High, Inch through social anger in InchLiving for the City, Inch to love in the ballads InchAll in Love is FairInch and InchGolden Lady.InchAs with many of Stevie Wonder's albums the lyrics, composition and production are almost entirely his own work, with the ARP synthesizer used prominently throughout the album. This instrument was a common motif among musicians of the time because of it's ability to construct a complete sound environment. Wonder was the first black artist to experiment with this technology on a mass scale, and Innervisions was hugely influential on the subsequent future of commercial black music. He also played all or virtually all instruments on six of the album's nine tracks, making most of Innervisions a representative one-man band. Album Tracks 1. Too High 2. Visions 3. Living for the City 4. Golden Lady 5. Higher Ground 6. Jesus Children of America 7. All in Love Is Fair 8. Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing 9. He's Misstra Know-It-All
