Questions & Answers
How does this compare to the dual 618 Q turntable?
Answered by AudioTechnicaThese are very similar turntables, both are 3-speed direct-drive types and semi-automatic in function. The LP8X does NOT feature a built-in phono preamplifier; it was intentionally left out in the pursuit of the purist fidelity. The LP8X uses a standard straight headshell making it easier to use various makes/models of headshells with different cartridges attached for quick and precisely aligned cartridge changes. The CS 618Q uses a proprietary angled headshell that may be more difficult to find. The LP8X has adjustable cartridge VTA (adjustable arm height) making it more suitable for cartridges with more complex stylus profiles which require precise alignment. The CS 618Q does not have a VTA adjustment. The LP8X can accommodate a wider range of cartridges when it comes to cartridge weight; the standard counterweight can accommodate a combined headshell + cartridge weight of 14 to 20 grams and when the sub counterweight is used, 17.5 to 23.5 grams. The CS 618Q has an acceptable headshell + cartridge weight range of 16 to 20 grams.
Does it have a pre amp
Answered by AudioTechnicaIt does not, if you require a built-in phono preamplifier, consider the AT-LP5X or AT-LP7X turntable instead, note however that both of these models are fully manual in operation, there is no auto lift/shut-off at the end of play.
