About this product
This features songs and chamber music by Late Romantic Composers. The Austrian composer, cellist and pianist Casimir von Pászthory (1886-1966), born in Budapest, lived for decades in Vienna. His songs on poems by Rainer Maria Rilke and Hermann Hesse, which are presented here, testify to the composer's sense of literary quality. He provides the singer with unobtrusive piano accompaniment, great creative freedom and leaves the vocal declamation close to the linguistic style of the templates. Born in Linz, the Jewish composer Arnold Winternitz (1874-1928) originally belonged to the circle around Arnold Schönberg, whose path to atonality he nevertheless did not go along with. Winternitz develops a very unique tongue strike in the 1919 song sequence InchJapanese Spring.Inch The haiku-like brevity of the Japanese texts must have particularly addressed Winternitz. Other pieces featured on this album include works by Ludwig Ferdinand von Bayern and Casimir von Paszthory.

This double album brings together 38 songs by Giacomo Meyerbeer, making it the most comprehensive collection of such recordings to date. Best known for his operas, Giacomo Meyerbeer is remembered as perhaps the most successful stage composer of the nineteenth century. His grand opera style was achieved by merging German orchestra style with Italian vocal tradition. Besides his operas, he wrote around 50 other songs, many of which are gathered on this . Performing these works are soprano Andrea Chudak, tenor Julian Rohde, and bass Tobias Hagge, joined by pianist Alexandra Rossman.

Nearly every music lover is acquainted with Der Freischutz, but the fewest are aware of Euryanthe. In the light of the musical quality of the opera, the disdain for it does not seem fitting. Euryanthe was Carl Maria von Weber's most ambitious project, one that anything but backfired. The composition may certainly be termed ground-breaking and truly deserves more attention. InchA chain of glittering jewels from the beginning to the end. All witty and ingenious,Inch (Robert Schumann in his critic about Euryanthe.) The presnt features a live recording of the work, which was taken in December of 2018 and features the Arnold Schoenberg Chor and the Orf Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as a group of brilliant soloists.
