The sides are blue mesh fabric with a rough texture. The vent holes on the side have a larger mesh surrounded by a gold foil decorative ring. The outer covering is removal and washable. The FAQs recommend only using Bedgear’s protective covers instead of regular pillows covers for proper performance but checking their website while writing this there were no pillow protections listed. Ideally you should use the wizard on the website to find which pillow series and size is best for you. In the Cosmo series the difference is the thickness of the pillow. The Cosmo 3 is intended to work best for those who wear a size XL shirt and should provide proper spine alignment. In regard to size, the Cosmo only seems to come in one length, which is smaller than your average queen or king sized pillow. Usage and Performance Laying down on the pillow the first thing that gets your attention is the cool feeling. It feels like the effect of cooling gel. Your head sinks into the pillow a bit but once you have settled it still feels slightly soft but supportive unlike some foam pillows that once settled feel very firm. The specifications state the two sides have a different firmness level but no one who tried it out was able to tell which was the softer or more firm side. Assuming you have chosen the correct size, your head should settle where your spine is straight. If you are the type that has spent your life making pillow piles trying to get the correct softness and height it might come as a surprise that the Cosmo was thick enough alone. If are type who likes to shift periodically between back, side, and stomach throughout the night you know a good pillow should be easy to move around. While the Cosmo is noticeable heavier than a standard pillow, the foam is still much lighter than most foam pillows. Repositioning shouldn’t be much of a hassle unless you just prefer extremely light pillows. Regardless of sleeping position it seemed to settle well enough to provide support without being too firm or too soft to sink in too deeply. Normally by morning regular pillows felt hot regardless of room temperature where the Cosmo felt only slightly warm. It didn’t work miracles and keep the initial cold feeling, but it was still a much more comfortable temperature than normal. Overall, sleep comfort was noticeably improved with no neck or head pain which is a welcomed change. However, it is not without some downsides. Besides the pillow looking oddly short on a king-sized bed, it feels a bit too short if you sometimes prefer to sleep on your side with the pillow vertical almost like a body pillow. A standard king-sized pillow is long enough to do this, but the Cosmo seems more suited to a full-sized bed. The gold foil also looks and feels somewhat cheap and when combined with the mesh material on the sides it makes the edge feel rough. A more understated and functional style would be appreciated. Of course, a pillowcase wouldn’t easily solve this but of course as mentioned previously this comes with a downsize of losing performance. Final Thoughts The big question would be who is the Bedgear Cosmo pillow for? If you have problems with getting too hot with normal pillows. If you often experience pillows feeling soft at night but then hard by morning. If you are the type that has a pile of different pillows you switch between overnight and still can’t seem to stay comfortable then the Bedgear Cosmo pillow might be worth trying.

Up until a few years ago, my favorite pillow had been a down feather-filled one, but after many years of great sleep I had to stop using it when I developed an allergy to down feathers. Since then I’ve been on the hunt for another pillow that provided the same comfort and support with a different fill material and it seems that search might be over. I used to be a really good back sleeper and for a long time I’d sleep like a stone: out like a light when my head hit the pillow, and I’d wake feeling rested in pretty much the same position as I fell asleep. But these days I find myself turning a lot in my sleep, especially onto my sides and occasionally my stomach, and no matter how long I slept would feel tired in the mornings. I needed a pillow that would comfortably accommodate a number of sleep positions and allow me to get a good night's sleep. Each style pillow from Bedgear comes in a range of sizes from 0.0 - 3.0, and according to the Pillow ID chart printed on the back of the box, as a small t-shirt sized back sleeper, my size should be 1.0 which is suitable for both back and multi-position sleepers. You can also use Bedgear’s website’s “Find Your Fit” tool, which also uses your mattress’s firmness and nighttime body temperature to determine the recommended pillow type and size, and that’s precisely how I selected the Cosmo Performance Pillow 1.0. The thickness of this pillow, uncompressed, is about 6 inches and it feels neither over nor under stuffed. The Cosmo is a dual-chamber style pillow with separated sections on top and bottom containing distinct fill materials giving each side of the pillow a different feel. With the pillow name facing up and readable, the firmer side is on top, and you simply flip the pillow over to use the softer side. The fill insert for the firm side is a solid, domed block of foam with the soft springiness of a marshmallow that has a similar density to a feather pillow when compressed. It does not have the extended shape-retention characteristics of memory foam and tends to spring back pretty quickly after weight is removed from it. The soft side fill insert is marked “Active Core” and feels like shredded tufts of silky poly fiber. It is not a solid mass and therefore rearranges easily and feels a bit mushier. This allows the fill to compress easily and mold around your head and neck while providing medium-soft density support. Personally, I think the firmness differential between the two sides is marginal and I’m often not quite certain which side I’m using, but either way the sleep experience has been very good. Aesthetically, the pillow has a flashy, space-age design and color scheme with its blue/gray tones and rose-gold metallic stitching and accents. I tend to get warm when I sleep, so the Cosmo works well for me because it employs a number of different cooling technologies to keep me from overheating and help regulate my body temperature; for example, the Ver-tex instant cooling fabric cover disperses heat across the fabric on the pillow’s surface rather than absorbing it so that it remains cool to the touch. This, combined with the side air vents and Air-X breathable mesh on all four sides of the pillow, keeps air flowing within and around the pillow, rather than trapping heat inside it. Since your skin should come in direct contact with the Ver-tex material, you don’t need to use an additional pillow case over it as this could actually reduce its cooling benefits. If you do want to use another pillowcase, Bedgear recommends its Performance pillow protectors that employ the same technologies as the pillow. The two zipper pulls along the front side of the cover allow you to remove the fill material from each section individually, so the cover can be washed. Note that the inner fill material inserts are spot clean only. I’ve been sleeping on this pillow for a little over a week and from the first night to last night, I’ve had a really great sleep experience with it. Not only do I feel I have the head and neck support I need, regardless of my sleep position, I’m also enjoying the cool-to-the-touch smooth feel of the Ver-tex cover. The pillow doesn’t get hot at night, and I feel I’ve been rolling over less throughout the night while using it and waking up less sore and more refreshed.

Bedgear - Cosmo 3.0 Pillow is a thick, comfortable and luxurious pillow that offers cooling on both sides of the pillow. There are 10 air vents on the pillow and other various technologies that make this the ultimate cooling pillow. The fibers are also very soft to the touch. There is also a removable and washable cover to help keep the pillow clean and sanitary. While being a bit more pricy than I have spent on previous pillows, this is one that justifies its price and makes sleep so much more comfortable than it ever has been before.

So when I got the opportunity to review a pillow at this cost, I thought to myself ‘How can a Pillow be worth this kind of money’? Well after sleeping on it for a bit, I have a better appreciation for this product. I do have a leading manufacturers pillow that was about half the cost of this one and I was pretty happy with it, but once I started sleeping on this pillow, I found myself liking this Bedgear Cosmo more. I let my wife sleep on it a couple of nights to test it out herself and found myself wanting it back. This is a heavy pillow with supportive layers on both sides, one is firm, and one has a softer feel. This pillow is almost two pillows in one. It has an outer zip off washable cover that contains 2 compartments with two different types of inner pillows. One is a very pliable soft inner material and the other one feels like some kind of gel/memory foam. I like that the zip off cover has 10 air vents around the perimeter which makes it very breathable. I find that when I sleep on this my head stays cool and almost feels weightless Great support all through the night. These pillows are offered in four different sizes; 0.0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0. Bedgear offers a nice chart that provides a recommendation based on your body type and sleep position. I chose the 1.0 and it is a perfect fit for me. I am a 170lb male with slim build and sleep on my side and back. I must admit, this is the best, most comfortable pillow I have personally used. Great support, comfort and simply provides me a better night sleep. I highly recommend.

Performance Pillow Technology or just two pillows shoved in one case, with a barrier separating them. Pretty much my normal setup since forever, rather I use two separate pillows and trade them out during the night as I get hot. According to the fit guide I am Cosmo 2.0. However, I went with a 1.0 as I always find pillows a little too firm once I get them home after I do the squeeze test in-store. So I dropped down to the 1.0 just in case and the firmness level of the Cosmo is already said to be Medium-Firm**. Well, when it comes to the firmness level I actually like the 1.0 as far as comfort goes (can’t compare to the 2.0 though). Knowing it has memory foam and having tried other memory foam pillows, I was expecting it to be a little stiffer overall, but since the foam portion is only about 2 or so inches of thickness and the polyfill is about the same, it's pretty plush out of the box. Only time will tell how long it will hold up. The Bedgear website recommends changing pillows every 18 months (pillow has a one-year warranty), which I do change my pillow about that same time frame from the $10 bin at my local Wally World. So I am guessing in 18 months they are expecting me to swap this bad mama-jammer out for a new model. That would equate to about $0.50/night for “Performance-driven” sleep. I am a super hot sleeper and this was the main reason to give it a shot. Based on the specs I was hoping for some all night coolness down, but it seems to be a normal pillow and holds in heat like foam pillows tend to. The fabric/cover is cool at first, but then that goes away. I feel like it holds in heat pretty well considering the channels and vents are supposed to move the air away/through the pillow. I had already gotten up for the day and my wife was still sleeping. About 20 minutes later when I was making the bed, I went to move the pillow and it was still warm underneath where the pillow lay. Granted, the top of the pillow was cool. We own a King Size Bliss Pure Latex mattress and after 20 minutes there is never any residual body heat where I was laying. So I was a little disappointed to see how much the pillow seems to act as an insulator. The fabric cover is very soft and the pillow does have a nice balance between being firm and soft. However, I do have some questions for the design team...like why was it thought to be a good idea to use copper glitter-like fabric on the Air-X mesh panel seams?? If you have a good itch, that portion will definitely scrap away a small layer of your epidermis! Of course, it will do that on your neck when you go to shift the pillow. The Cosmo emblem stitching is not this way, nor are the copper rings around the “vent” holes. At first I was thinking maybe it was a copper weave to have some health benefits to add to that “Performance-driven” sleep they tout, but the website doesn’t state that on the product page. Also, since it is a bed product it has a nice big “DO NOT REMOVE UNDER PENALTY OF LAW” set of tags. I get every bed, comforter, and pillow has this, but a regular pillow will get a case put on it. Of course as the owner of this pillow I can remove the tags, but it still leaves that little bit that you cannot remove that now sticks out. So maybe not sell the pillow put together so its not on the actual pillow case? Or move it inside...where the pillows are? **I put these after the Medium-Firm designation of what Bedgear says this pillow is. On their product page, click the hidden “?” and it gives you a pop-window on what Medium-Firm means to them. In the 1.0 I don’t notice a difference between either side. They both felt the same plushness. I ended up letting my wife give it a go and it is now her pillow, so that is a plus in my love bank. She is also a two pillow sleeper, but now after using the Cosmo is a 1.0 pillow sleeper (see what I did there). Her fit guide also quoted the Cosmo 2.0. I know I am not really talking this pillow up, I admit, I had some high expectations for it when it came to the cooling effect. For me it is a step backward because I cannot just flip the pillow over since it is going to be hotter than the top. My normal setup is a king size and queen size pillow. I sleep on the corners when belly down and then can rotate the pillow through the night or switch pillows altogether if needed or as I flop around like a fish as I tend to do. So I can always get at a cool spot of the pillow. Doesn’t really work that way with the Cosmo. It does work nicely as a small body pillow. I’m not insecure to share my Fit Guide so if it helps you determine if this is useful here ya go. FYI there are two fit guides on the Bedgear webpage. One is on the main page and asks 5 questions as helps determine the product model. The second fit guide is shorter and is a product page to determine the range 0.0-3.0 it gives you these three questions: Gender, TShirt Size, Sleep Position.The other two questions from the other fit guide add Mattress Firmness and Sleep Temperature. Also the TShirt size is replaced with Body Size. ME: Male, XL, All over the place...a bit more personal info, I’m 5’7” and 225lbs of pure fat, muscles, organs, water, and blood...not very hairy. Wife: Femail, M, Back (wish they had a sub-option for flailing arms)...a bit more on my wife...yeah I’m not stupid! Honestly, I am not sure how to recommend this...do or don’t. My mattress is not cheap, so clearly I don’t have an issue throwing down some cash on good sleep (I hate sleeping anywhere but my bed; hotels got nothin' on me). I just don’t think this sleep accessory lives up to the claims that it touts. But my wife likes it...so happy wife, happy life?
