Berliner Cellharmoniker - Cello Cocktail 2 - SUPER-AUDIO CD [Super Audio CD (SACD)]

Throughout 2025 Solstice continued it's burgeoning renaissance with the issue of it's 8th studio album, 'Clann', which was received to great acclaim by the international press and in particular Prog Magazine, whose readers voted Solstice 'Best Band' of 2024. The band took this exceptional album on tour to headline gigs and festivals and their following has grown stratospherically. Riding on the back of the now sold out 'Return To Cropredy' live record, Solstice releases this new live collection from the Clann tour, recorded from their sell-out show on home turf at The Stables in Milton Keynes on 30 August 2025. Increasing the usual line-up by five, this gig included the uber-talented Theo Travis (Soft Machine, Gong, The Tangent and many other collaborations including Porcupine Tree and Steven Wilson) and was augmented by the 'Glass Brass' making this show a truly family affair for band leader Andy Glass. Whist this recording showcases 'Clann' in a live setting, it includes vintage favourites such as 'Earthsong' and 'Cheyenne' from the band's 1984 debut 'Silent Dance' (remastered in Autumn 2025), 'Wongle No.9' from 2023's 'Light Up', and 'A New Day' from 2022's 'Sia'. This is another essential live album which beautifully complements the 'Return To Cropredy' live . Modern day Solstice bringing more joy to fans, old and new

Joseph Haydn once remarked 'I was not a magician on any instrument, but I knew the power and effect of all of them.' This knowledge he used to good effect in his cello concertos, composed some twenty years apart for two different cellists in 'his' orchestra at the court of Prince Esterhazy. Both works are firmly established in the concert repertoire, but this has not always been the case. Concerto No. 1 in C major was long believed to be lost and it was only in 1961 that a set of parts were discovered in the Prague National Museum. The D major concerto, on the other hand, was never lost, but for a very long time there was doubts concerning it's provenance. Only when Haydn's manuscript was found in 1954 could the work's authorship be clarified beyond doubt. These two jewels in the cello repertoire are here performed by the acclaimed Swiss cellist Christian Poltéra who also directs the Münchener Kammerorchester. Closing the disc is a work composed some 150 years later the composer and viola player Paul Hindemith wrote his Trauermusik for himself to perform at a concert commemorating the death of George V of England in 1936. It is here heard in the version for cello and strings.
