Bret Higgins - Atlas Revolt - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The infamous Icelandic low is defined as a large and persistent atmospheric low-pressure centre that forms between Iceland and Greenland and is often the cause of strong winter winds over the North Atlantic. Katla artistically translate this meteorological depression into dark doom-infused metal and deep musical emotion. An urgent sense of darkness and inner turmoil drives InchAllt þetta helvítis myrkurInch (InchAll this damn darknessInch), the second full-length of the Icelandic duo. The soul crushing heaviness fueling this record makes Katla's melancholic debut album InchMó?urástinInch appear nearly light-hearted by comparison. Some of this album's core composition reach back in time for more than a decade and were born out of spontaneous rehearsal room-sessions that were only now given final shape. The result is a cinematic musical stream of consciousness, in which many of the songs intertwine and flow into each other. Katla are the conceptual and musical brainchild of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Einar Thorberg Gu?mundsson (FORTÍÐ, POTENTIAM) and former SÓLSTAFIR-drummer and visual artist Gu?mundur Óli Pálmason. The duo deliberately took their name from one of the most active and feared Icelandic volcanoes to manifest that the external part of their inspiration relates to the islands ever-changing landscapes and subpolar climate. InchThe outer landscapes are as important to us as the inner darknessInch, tells Einar. InchKatla is as much a product of our environment as derived from our state of mind.Inch Katla take their art very personally even beyond musical aspects. Cover art, photography, and the handwritten booklet - everything about InchAllt þetta helvítis myrkurInch has either been created by the duo or by their relatives and close friends. InchWe like to keep things in the familyInch, Gu?mundur points out. InchEverything is homemade yet up to our high

Patrick Higgins' new album TOCSIN is full of thrilling opposites. It is a masterclass of visceral genre-bending sounds that are physical and delicate at the same time. Over the course of three large compositions, the listener is brought on a journey of constant surprise, as when the sound of violins dissolves into a halo of pure noise, more at home in an underground electronics show than anything that appears on a concert stage. The performers include the Wet Ink Ensemble, hailed as the InchBest Classical Ensemble of 2018Inch; acclaimed pianist Vicky Chow, Inchone of our era's most brilliant pianists,Inch; and the Mivos Quartet, Inchone of America's most daring and ferocious new-music ensembles.1. Tom Morello is living proof of the transformative power of rock n roll. As the co-founder of Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave, and Prophets Of Rage, and through collaborations with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Johnny Cash, he has continually pushed the limits of what one man can do with six strings. But on his latest album The Atlas Underground, he s transformed his sound into something even he could not have anticipated, blending Marshall stack riff-rock with the digital wizardry of EDM and hip-hop to create the most ambitious artistic effort of his storied career. The Atlas Underground includes collaborations with Marcus Mumford, Portugal. The Man, the Wu-Tang Clan's RZA and GZA, Vic Mensa, K. Flay, Big Boi, Gary Clark Jr., Pretty Lights, Killer Mike and Whethan among others. The riffs and the beats led the way, but the extraordinary talents of the collaborators setmy creativity into uncharted territory, says Morello of the project.
