Caligonaut announces the of his debut solo album Magnified as Giants. Caligonaut is a solo project by artist Ole Michael Bjørndal, a guitarist best known for his work with Oak, Airbag and Bjørn Riis Band. Bjørndal has composed the music, written the lyrics and also performs leadvocals and guitars. The performers on the record include members of Wobbler, Airbag, Oak, Pymlico and Meer, and a special guest appearance by Norwegian church organ legend Iver Kleive. Magnified as Giants contains four songs within a classic prog rock landscape inspired by the guitar and bass work of King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Genesis and Rush but blended with the more modern sounds of Tool and Opeth. Several of the pieces are written in Robert Fripp new standard tuning. The album also features an extended use of vintage keyboards played by Wobbler keyboardist Lars Fredrik Frøislie. Caligonaut is a word composed of the Latin words for mist or dimness,InchcaligoInch & and traveller/navigator, & InchnautInch, lyrical themes that are also prominent on the album. The album artwork was created by visual artist Marte Bjørndal, who has held exhibitions in Brazil, South Africa, China and Russia. The photography is by Anne-Marie Forker, known primarily for her work with Marillion. The album is mixed by Lars Fredrik Frøislie and mastered by Jacob Holm-Lupo. 1. Emperor2. Hushed feat. Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 . InchWhen I was a kid, my dad's favorite record was Willie Nelson's Stardust. I have a really great dad, and that record has a tenderness and optimism that must have worked it's way into the fabric of my soul because every time I hear it, I feel safe and happy.I had been wanting to make a covers record like Stardust for a long time. Then in 2010, thanks to cosmic magic or god or whatever, Olivia Jones reached out to me to see if I'd be willing to duet with the incomparable Sharon Jones on a song Olivia had written with her dad, Booker T. Jones, the man who produced and arranged Stardust. A few weeks later, I started sending Booker songs that I wanted to cover. I also sent him a few rough demos of originals that I had started working on with some old friends, including the songs InchSerpentine PrisonInch and InchDistant AxisInch. Booker responded to those demos right away and encouraged me to keep writing and digging deeper into that stuff. Six months later we had twelve originals and seven covers. Everyone I had been working with on these songs came to Venice, CA, and we recorded it all in 14 days.

The band Caligator got it's name from taking the best of southern rock guitar and blending in a nice California cool jazz fusion, mix that with a northern California blues feel and you got Caligator. The mix is something special! People say it's a Joe Satriani meets Allman Brothers kind of groove. Three cuts feature vocals, Then it's guitars swinging in a nice mix of jazz rock fusion with a southern edge. The songs are all up tempo and great driving tunes, with ripp'in guitar tones. The band really tried to come up with our own type of sound, but keeping in mind the types of music we all love. Caligator - soulful, tasty, great guitar playing in a nice mix of jazzy southern swing.
