Q: What ink cartridge does this printer use?
A: For black it uses canon 295. For color just one cartridge 286
Q: hi does this come with ink in the initial purchase or do I need to purchase separately?
A: Like most printers it includes cartridges but they are not as full as normal purchased cartridges.
Q: Do you need a smartphone for this printer to work?
A: No. We bought this for my elderly father. No smart phone needed. It is very simple to use.
Q: Does it come with an ink cartridge?
A: Yes,but it is a small supply. I enrolled in an inexpensive monthly plan. The cost for a year is about what i used to pay for one cartridge.

The set up is so easy even a caveman can do it
Full disclosure I am 70 years old and this is the first and only printer that I have ever owned so can not compare it to similar printers or any printer LOL. When the other reviewers praise the ease of set up to use believe it. Ir took me more time to find and download a QR code scanner app on my phone. I dont know how other printerz sound running printing but this one has a quite meditative quality. The black and white prints (have not tried color)are excellent quality and fulfills my need printing lost puppy flyers AND I got it for under 60 bucks!!! @ Best Buy

Fine but lacking some features
This printer is compact and works fine. However, it lacks features of the MX922 that we replaced, including a separate photo paper tray and auto feed on top. The ink cartridges are not readily available, as Canon wants you to subscribe to automatic ordering. Also, the description online incorrectly said it takes legal paper.

Smooth Printing
This Cannon printer is of great quality. I can easily print from my laptop and I especially like the clean print from my phone in black as well as in color. There is no waiting on a print, because this printer is quick with its prints. Its versatility to scan and copy smoothly is a plus for me.
