About this product

Absurdity and punk rock go together like celery and tonic water. That is to say, they are two acquired tastes that are even better together, because they push out the squares and cater to the real freaks. That spirit has driven Chicago's Cel Ray from the very beginning. Springing to life with their debut EP Cellular Raymond in 2023, the Chicago four-piece of vocalist Maddie Daviss, guitarist Josh Rodin, bassist Kevin Goggin, and drummer Alex Watson charted a path through twitchy, absurdist post-punk that fell somewhere between The Minneapolis Uranium Club and The B-52s. Piss Park followed later that year, and aside from the InchRaw GodInch single in 2025, the band spent their time ripping club shows across the Midwest, playing in DIY spots, dive bars, and, one time, being hand-selected to open for Jack White. Now, after years of waiting for a proper full-length, Cel Ray has joined the illustrious noisenicks at Exploding In Sound to Cel Rayzer, a record that, as it's name subtly implies, is sharper and more acerbic than anything Cel Ray's done before. What makes Cel Rayzer so impactful is the inability to pin it down. Yes, it's garage punk; yes it's egg-punk; yes it's post-punk, but it's beholden to none of those things. This is what makes Cel Rayzer such a thrill; Just when you think you have the band figured out, they transform into something else so effortlessly, you're left wondering how they even pulled it off.

Melkbelly - Nothing Valley - VINYL LP

Limited edition orange colored vinyl LP pressing Melkbelly, formed by vets of Chicago's experimental and DIY scene champions, organized noise and thoughtful freneticism on it's debut full-length, Nothing Valley, fusing dreamy vocal lines and cantankerous guitar racket. It's songs clang and bang in stripped-down production that highlights the band's sharp edges; multi-faceted slabs of sound serve harmonious, immediate songs. So it shouldn't be a surprise that the band members' tastes run obscure-The Hecks, Lightning Bolt, and jazz drummer Paal Nilssen-Love and, as they tell us, Inchbands and musicians that draw on a sense of adventure.Inch The quartet's membership overlaps with several Chicago noise and experimental bands and art collectives. Nothing Valley was recorded in early 2016 in Vettraino's basement studio to 8-track analog tape. Fresh off a West Coast tour, the band let the hours on the road and missed art tourism opportunities at Spiral Jetty shape the songs as well as the recording process itself, writing half the album material in the studio. Nothing Valley breezes gust fresh and forcefully.

Songs: Ohia - Travels in Constants - Yellow - VINYL LP

Sometime in 2001 - sandwiched between the of Ghost Tropic and it's follow-up, the cryptic classic, Didn't It Rain - Songs Ohia recorded an EP for Temporary Residence's distance-themed subscription series, Travels In Constants. The untitled EP consisted of a single 18-minute song - performed live by Jason Molina in his living room, recorded directly to 4-track cassette as the sounds of a typical Chicago night bled through the air. Built solely from an acoustic guitar and Molina's familiar melancholy croon, it's a hauntingly intimate track. Molina once remarked that it was Inchprobably too out thereInch for a proper Songs Ohia album, which is perhaps why is felt right at home in this context. Scarcely available in it's original CD-only edition of 1,000 copies, Travels In Constants has finally been remastered and reissued for vinyl and digital formats. Completing this reissue is InchHowler,Inch another unusually lengthy Songs Ohia track that, like InchTravels In ConstantsInch, was recorded and released in 2001 in an edition of only 1,000. These tracks are amongst the most abstractly beautiful and alarmingly delicate music that Molina ever committed to tape. It's an honor to finally make it properly available for the world.
