About this product
The third album on The Cleveland Orchestra's tag follows the 'old-new' pairing of their previous , showcasing recordings of Prokofiev and Schnittke that cover both preand post-pandemic music-making. Prokofiev's Symphony No.2 is a beautiful and exquisitely fashioned gem, inspired by the early 20th century's fascination with mechanics and industry, and the everchanging world during that era. Franz Welser-Möst sees the work as Incha fascinating examination both of the World War itself and a reflection on how it changed people's views. This is a far-sighted view of Modernity, and shows us an Expressionist spirit that is still deeply moving - and disturbing - today.Inch Schnittke's Concerto for Piano and Strings, featuring pianist Yefim Bronfman with the orchestra's strings, was recorded at Cleveland's Severance Hall, during the midst of Covid-19 restrictions, as part of the orchestra's new In Focus digital broadcast series.

The second album from Franz Welser-Mo¨st on The Cleveland Orchestra's in-house tag pairs Schubert's InchGreatInch C Major Symphony with music by the 20th century Austrian-American composer Ernst Kr?enek. These recordings serve as a unique document of the Orchestra's music-making, having been made only days before the coronavirus pandemic forced the temporary shuttering of Severance Hall. Schubert's majestic InchGreatInch C Major Symphony dates from 1825 and was premiered by Felix Mendelssohn in 1839. Kr?enek's suite Static and Ecstatic is music of contrast and extremes, juxtaposing moments of strictly serial music with freely composed material.

These Cleveland Orchestra recordings were captured in September and October 2021.
