About this product

Achieving international recognition through his 40-year career as a bassist and as an award-winning producer, composer, and recording engineer, Dan Dean is a truly multi-faceted artist constantly seeking new challenges and outlets for expressing the music he hears. For his debut vocal recording, Dean came about it in a very roundabout way. In preparation for a recording of solo bass with string orchestra, Dean arranged works by JS Bach, Vivaldi, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakoff and Albinoni. With the budget and organizational constraints of recording large ensembles, Dean decided to try adapting the arrangements to his voice. What began as a Inchwhat ifInch experiment turned into a musically ambitious, technically challenging effort. Often angelic, or haunting, or exuberant, InchSongs Without WordsInch is a culmination of his musical experiences over a lifetime, captured by a single microphone.Inch... exceptionally articulate and resourceful... he proves to be both a supportive role model as well as a soloist... Inch - AUDIOPHILE AUDITION

Various Artists - Songs Without Words - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Songs Without Words is the first purely instrumental recording in the history of Camerata Trajectina. Poetry in the 16th and 17th centuries was usually set to popular melodies. Camerata Trajectina has had years of expertise in researching the source melodies underlying these texts. The most beautiful melodies of the Dutch Golden Age were omnipresent. They rang out on the carillon and sounded on the organ in church, they were whistled and blown by city pipers and flutists, and they were whirled and capered to at weddings and balls. Camerata Trajectina play classics of the 17th century in our own arrangements and improvisations, recycling famous melodies, madrigals, songs and harmonies.

Knudsen/Rudzinskis Space Big Band - Space Big Band - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Space, endless expanses these are the adventures of the Space Big Band, who travel with a team of seventeen to places that no big band has ever seen before. Space Big Band was named by Danish bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen and Latvian saxophonist Toms Rudzinskis. The two got to know each other in Berlin. They hit it off musically and decided to form a band together. Both Knudsen and Rudzinskis had worked for big bands in the past and found that there was a lack of modern, contemporary compositions for such large ensembles. With a host of friends, excellent musicians from Germany, Denmark, Latvia, the USA, Russia, Ukraine, France, Sweden and Austria, they got the project going. The result is the first InchSpace Big BandInch album. The term InchspaceInch has a double meaning. Of course, first of all outer space is meant and the history of it's exploration. The two bandleaders, who each composed five pieces for the album, include references to inspirations from Galileo to Hawking, early geology and the origin of the earth, Johannes Kepler and the frequencies of planets, but also to current space missions and the history of our knowledge of the cosmos. But there is also InchspaceInch in music. It needs space, space for improvisation and collective music-making, as is typical for a contemporary jazz orchestra. The song titles usually make it clear from where the respective piece draws it's inspiration. Both composers studied and researched their subject areas, but the songs do not tell unambiguous stories.
