About this product
The Set Up is the wayward sister record to The Delines 2025 , InchMr. Luck & Ms. Doom.Inch Each song here is a little movie full of grifters either struggling to get out of the life or just falling into it, the aftermath, the wreckage after the breakup, the lost and not the romantics adrift on the road. Willy says InchThe Delines were finishing the InchMr. Luck & Ms. DoomInch sessions when I brought in a tune called InchWalking With His Sleeves Down.Inch Amy learned it on piano and we recorded it live. Her take was stunning but the song didn't quite fit the record. It was lonelier, more rattled, and it missed that rudderless romance that inhabits the world of InchMr. Luck & Ms. Doom,Inch so we set it aside. InchKeep The Shades DownInch was written as a link between the romance of Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom and the isolation of the InchThe Set Up.Inch The couple in the song realizes just how close the haves are to being have nots. I had written InchJumping Off In MadrasInch for the woman in Her Ponyboy, (Mr. Luck & Ms. Doom), as she gets off the freight train alone after the death of her boyfriend. Cory wrote InchGetting Out Of The WardInch for the guy in InchThe Meter Keeps TickingInch who is leaving the mental hospital two days after Christmas and the stunningly beautiful InchThe Last Time I Saw HerInch for the kid in InchThe Reckless LifeInch as she sets off from the hospital into the darkness of the world. The tracks came together fast and it was so naturally cinematic in feel that Cory and I began bringing in instrumentals to make it even more so.InchProduced by John Morgan Askew.

From the tale of two brothers leaving a convenience store after a shop-lifting gone wrong incident outside of Lake Charles, to a middle-aged woman driving aimlessly outside of Galveston unable to go home to her waiting family. From the 60's pop of InchKid CodeineInch to the soul romance of InchHold Me Slow,Inch Vlautin is one of pop's outstanding storytellers... No one has a better eye for the telling detail, or a keener ear for the heartbreaking phrase... Front-woman Amy Boone's voice is equal parts double cream and liquid smoke.InchBoone's rich, Rickie Lee Jones-meets-Chrissie Hynde voice is the careworn bedrock upon which these bruised, dynamics-rich songs depend... There's no mistaking it's pedigree.Inch MOJO - 4 Stars *InchPortland sextet return from the brink in imperious fettle... Boone is on terrific form and these sad tales are given empathetic grace by The Delines' stirring arrangements.Inch Uncut - 8/101. Little Earl 2. Kid Codeine 3. Drowning In Plain Sight 4. All Along The Ride 5. Lynette's Lament6. Hold Me Slow 7. Surfers In Twilight 8. Past The Shadows 9. This Ain't No Getaway 10. Saved From The Sea 11. The Gulf Drift Lament
