Only Cuts Records, an Australian tag of 'house music for hip-hop heads' headed by the Sydney-based artists Mo'funk & Encee, presents the global house superstar DJ Sneak with four killer cuts aimed straight at the dancefloor.A major figure in the second wave of Chicago house, DJ Sneak and his varied tracks, whether raw and jacking or smooth and layered with Latin percussion, excite dancefloors on a global scale. While the self-described 'house gangster' is not originally from Chicago, and has been based out of Toronto and Los Angeles since establishing his career, he'll always be associated with the Windy City. Early Sneak productions such as 'U Can't Hide from Your Bud' (1997) - sample-based disco loops fused with raw, jacking rhythms - drew the blueprint for the 'filter house' sound taken above ground by the likes of Daft Punk, who later had Sneak write the lyrics for their worldwide hit 'Digital Love' (2001). Sneak could have coasted on the impact of his '90s releases for his own Defiant tag, Cajual/Relief, and Strictly Rhythm into the third millennium, but he has skillfully acknowledged his past while moving forward. Stylistically indebted labels such as Circus Recordings, Toy Tonics, and Phonogramme have been home to his occasional 12' releases throughout the 2010s and 2020s. Most recently, his output of releases has accelerated greatly, with recent and/or forthcoming single available from Heist, Frosted, Hard Times, Hudd Trax, Moxy Muzik, In the Future, and now Only Cuts.Tracklisting A1. DJ Sneak lands on Refuge Recordings with a 4 tracker for the ages. A signature feel to these joints that sends you straight to the dancefloor with a smile and undeniable groove. Sneak cuts feel timeless. Just the right amount of edge, grit, and attitude. 'The Bounce' EP is no different. He doesn't miss.

I have heard these two works (and also by the same performers the 7th and 8th Symphonies) many times both live in different halls with different orchestras as well as many recordings. However, I have to confess I was never satisfied by those performances either at the artistic level (both live and recorded) or at the aural level when recorded. Artistically they were never right, mostly because of extraneous changes to the original instrumentation and orchestration and when recorded, because of the invariably banal sound. Happily, I can say here and now that this SACD in either it's Pure Tube Stereo or Real Surround Sound version as created by Tacet, has finally moved me to think of it as my long-sought referenceInch CD both artistically and aurally.Inch (John Nemaric)

Twelve inch vinyl pressing of this 2013 single. Mike Paradinas's µ-Ziq solo project has been quiet for a while. However, with 'XTEP', he makes a welcome return from hiatus, delivering a gentle taster for the 2013 µ-Ziq album due this summer. In stark contrast to a large percentage of his previous work, XTEP is joyous all the way through. These five compositions abandon the furrow-browed quest for cutting-edge exploration, exchanging it for an altogether more carefree and fun approach, with only the footwork-influenced 'Monj2' directly referencing any current electronic influences.
