Te Amo!!! -Duduka Da Fonseca. The magic of Brazil and it's music have captured generations of music lovers. The joyous beats of samba and the mysterious sensuality of bossa nova have grabbed listeners like few other genres can. Duduka Da Fonseca conjures the spells of Brazilian music whenever he is behind his drum kit. But there is a special feeling that comes to Da Fonseca when he returns home to Rio de Janeiro, an unscripted and unpredictable joy that comes through in performing music. That alchemy is captured on Da Fonseca's new recording, Rio Fantasia. // Having arrived in New York City in 1975, Da Fonseca has powered the rhythm section of many jazz legends. He has also been integral in the presentation of music by Brazilian legends, like Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Claudio Roditi and Dom Salvador among others. // In 2009, Da Fonseca formed his Brazilian based trio, featuring pianist David Feldman and bassist Guto Wirtti. The Rio based Feldman and Wirtti are the first calls that Da Fonseca makes whenever he returns to Brazil. The trio's instinctive rapport was developed over the years, allowing them a freely flowing style of play. The opportunity to play with Feldman and Wirtti always provides a jolt to Da Fonseca and he typically records their meetings. // Da Fonseca returned to Rio in December 2023. He immediately called Feldman and Wirtti. Unfortunately, Wirtti was traveling and would not be able to meet immediately. Without missing a beat, Da Fonseca pushed for a recording once Wirtti returned and prom

Jobim's legacy has lived on through his admirers, followers and apprentices. Bossa Nova and the Brazilian jazz tradition continue to flourish, led by the likes of drummer Duduka Da Fonseca and pianist Helio Alves. With the addition of the great vocalist Maucha Adnet, the friends have assembled a program of music highlighting the beauty of the Brazilian Jazz music that they have performed all over the world. Their new recording, Samba Jazz & Tom Jobim, was recorded to spread their passion even further. // Though Da Fonseca and Alves come from different parts of Brazil (Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, respectively), they both grew up with the sounds of popular Brazilian music and Bossa Nova in their ears. It was upon hearing jazz as teenagers that they decided to pursue the American born genre as their passion. Both would eventually land in New York City to become enmeshed in Gotham's jazz world. // Beginning in 2007 at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola in New York, they began to perform a program of music called InchSamba Jazz and the Music of JobimInch with the singer Maucha Adnet, who was a member of Jobim's ensemble during the last ten years of his life. The trio has toured the world with the program and has developed an incredible empathy.

In 2021 after enjoying a Central Park concert, drummer Duduka Da Fonseca met bassist Gili Lopes and guitarist Vinicius Gomes, both of whom said that they wanted very much to play music with him. Da Fonseca felt flattered and suggested putting together a quartet that also included pianist Helio Alves, and Quarteto Universal was born.Throughout his career, Duduka Da Fonseca has been one of the leaders in performing music that mixed together Jazz with Brazilian rhythms, featuring the most rewarding aspects of both genres. In Gomes, Lopes, and Alves he has found kindred spirits, resulting in the first recording by the group, YES!!!YES!!! features Duduka Da Fonseca and Quarteto Universal performing music that is boundary pushing, while deeply in touch with their Brazilian heritage. It is an exciting beginning for the Brazilian Jazz super band.
