Elvis Depressedly - Holo Pleasures / California Dreamin' - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Colemine Records is proud to present a reissue of the debut album from Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos entitled Beware. Junior Thomas aka Thomas McDowall is a songwriter, musician, vocalist and producer born north of Minneapolis, MN. He developed a sincere devotion to classic Jamaican music at a young age, listening to such artists as Dave Barker, The Bleechers, The Wailers, Phyllis Dillon and Alton Ellis.InchI wanted to make a record that was honest and true to the golden era of Jamaican musicInch says Thomas. After several conversations with reggae producer Brian Dixon, they both realized they were on the same page. Thomas showed up to Dixon's Volcano Lounge studio in Los Angeles a few weeks later ready to record. With Thomas and Dixon as the brainchildren and nucleus of the project, they began assembling the musicians now known as The Volcanos. The Volcanos are a collective of Southern California's most dignified musicians, specializing in Jamaica's InchGolden EraInch sound. Members of the Volcanos have worked with countless reggae legends, most notably Jimmy Cliff's 2012 Grammy award winning album Rebirth. Other notable works include The Aggrolites debut Dirty Reggae and The Aggrolites, Hepcat Push n' Shove and Right on Time, Western Standard Time's debut A Big Band Tribute to the Skatalites and Tim Armstrong's (Rancid) debut A Poet Life.

After a dormant period following the of the Gallery EP in 2012, Craft Spells' Justin Vallesteros is back with the gorgeously ambitious Nausea. It's Craft Spells' second proper full length LP, and first since 2010's critically acclaimed Idle Labor. Since last on the radar, Justin moved to San Francisco to find a niche in the Bay Area music scene. This proved difficult within the regarded garage rock scene and insular DJ night crowds currently dominating the area's music community.

In many ways, new alhambra is an auditory homage to what has shaped lead singer Mathew Lee Cothran's life. It's title, as any hardcore pro-wrestling fan will recognize, credits the Philadelphia arena that birthed it's most legendary and extreme version of it, and the use of samples from wrestling shows serve as a reference to his upbringing. The album was characteristically made with outdated equipment and limited by only one microphone, with Mike InchDr. VinkInch Roberts playing an essential role on bass that enrichens the rockier resonations in comparison to Elvis Depressedly's previous releases. Cothran and Delaney were constantly on the move during the recording process thanks to their new found career freedom, but none of it takes away from new alhambra fully texturized shift toward brightly melancholic noise-pop inspired by Cothran's favorite unsung heroes such as Waterboys, Prefab Sprout and Emperor X, and in more conventional instances, Elliott Smith and Mac DeMarco.
