About this product

It was only with Partch that a music began to take shape that could do equal justice to the physical desire for rhythmic pulse and a curiosity for new, unheard sounds; a music that enthralls us despite, or rather, precisely because of it's unfamiliarity. A music for which we have no category, and which has no location, and yet in a strange way is grounded. (Heiner Goebbels) The American composer Harry Partch (1901-1974) is considered a pioneer of the Just Intonation movement and was far ahead of his time when he began to explore microtonality. In the course of his life, he not only created a highly complex tonal system, but also designed and built an extensive set of instruments of sculptural beauty and great stage presence for it's realisation, the only and original set of which is preserved in the USA. On the occasion of the opening of the Ruhrtriennale 2013 with InchDelusion of the FuryInch, staged by Heiner Goebbels, Harry Partch's entire set of microtonal instruments was reconstructed for the Ensemble Musikfabrik and learned by the musicians. It was only through this enormous reconstruction that performances of Partch's music outside his home country became possible at all. The dance and music theatre InchDelusion of the FuryInch, whose recording by the Ensemble Musikfabrik sets new standards, is considered a key work and musical quintessence in Harry Partch's oeuvre. The extensive booklet documents the extraordinary music theatre production with numerous pictures as well as texts by Heiner Goebbels and Edu Haubensak.

Ravel / Duparc - Aimer Et Mourir - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

September 2018 marks the start of Robin Ticciati's second season as Music Director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and the of his second recording with his new orchestra. The partnership's critically acclaimed debut of Debussy and Faure led MusicWeb International to comment Inch[this] certainly whets the appetite for future releases from Robin Ticciati with the DSO Berlin.Inch This second all-French programme sees Magdalena Kožena return to perform a selection of songs by Henri Duparc alongside orchestral music by his fellow countryman Maurice Ravel. The popular Suite No. 2 from Ravel's epoch-making ballet Daphnis et Chloe showcases Ticciati's flair for highlighting intricacies of detail and colour; listen as the beautifully descriptive sunrise ('Lever du jour') bursts into vivid, multi-hued life. In Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales Ticciati creates a well-paced, yet graceful, Impressionist swirl with clearly defined textures and shimmering orchestral colors. Duparc's melodies, which Ravel himself described as 'works of genius', sound particularly opulent in their orchestral scoring; the warm tones of Kožena's ravishing voice provide a perfect match.

Philippe Herreweghe - Il Quarto Libro de - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Monteverdi's Fourth Book of Madrigals, published in 1603 after an eleven-year gestation, bears witness to the metamorphosis of the madrigal and the rapid evolution of music at the turn of the two centuries. It is also a model of the genre and may be regarded as one of the most innovative and emblematic of it's composer's style. This bold, complex book is the culmination of the application of the precepts of the seconda pratica on the cusp of the seventeenth century. The dedication tells us that some of it's madrigals had been intended for presentation to Duke Alfonso II d'Este (who died in 1597), thus revealing the key influence on this collection of the court of Ferrara, then one of the most sophisticated in Europe and a crucible of musical innovation. Following the of the Vespers, Philippe Herreweghe, a great lover of Italy and it's repertory, accompanied as ever by Collegium Vocale Gent, signs his second recording devoted to Monteverdi on the Phi tag with this Fourth Book of Madrigals.
