I was in the market to replace my PT-ax200u Panasonic that I have owned for 8 years the panisonic was a great projector but to make it live again it was $400 for a new bulb. I reviewed many websites and decided to take a chance on the Epson media 1040. I am so glad I did the epson is brighter more defined and has an amazing picture for a projector at this price. I put it up against my buddy's $2500. Ben Q and he was amazed also. My son loves to play Xbox one and it does not have to be a dark room to enjoy. I will be getting a new screen as my old one is too small now. I have it projected on a light tan wall currently and still the picture is amazing. Ordered screen pro white screen material from Carl's Place to make a new 144 inch screen instead of the 110 inch I had before. Very impressed with this projector!! Can't wait to see it on a dedicated screen.

Very bright and crisp picture. I chose this because of the Lumens and because of the name. I also considered the Optoma Hd27. But price for this with warranty through Best Buy was less then the Optoma so I went with this. I get complimented on the picture quality all the time. During the day as well the picture quality is fantastic. Is it as bright during the day? No, of course not. But I use this as a daily tv windows and sliding glass door open to allow light in and no issues with viewing. As for sound, because I use it as a daily tv we just use the internal speaker for casual viewing and we use the surround for movies and sporting events. I have the surround hooked up to my receiver via HDMI. It is ceiling mounted so the only knock I have with it is the mounting holes are not ideal there is only 3 not 4. So keep that in mind if you plan to do as such. This will not disappoint. Just FYI I have 107" screen @ 12ft.

I bought this for a home theater/living room. I didn't want a TV as an eyesore in the living room. I bought a retractable screen to hide as well. This works perfectly even in a bright room. Darks are harder to see in the bright room but doesn't ruin the watching experience. Set up was a little hard but that's due to the location I put it in. The Keystone adjust was a big help. Everyone that watches it is blown away by the quality of the image. I'm projecting a 100-inch image from around 12 feet. No issues yet.

Can't describe how crystal clear it looks. I have it about 12 feet away. In use it about 110 to 115 inches

The price is good and the picture is really good, easy set up. Took some modification to get the ceiling mount to work but all good now. It is a bit on the loud side, the internal speaker is terrible, and it does not have an audio output so you have to plan on that.

Quality is great for a mid ranged projector. If you're not looking to spend more than 700ish and just looking for some great picture this projector will do it. The sound sucks so be sure to have an external sound source.

Bought this projector on sale for our basement home theater that we had been wanting for a year. We have it set up for a 100" throw upside down from our ceiling mount and it is perfect! Image is sharp. We ran our hdmi from the projector to a receiver (which we also bought from Best Buy) which we have hooked up to our surround sound and then all our devices run through the receiver. Sounds great. Looks great. Two thumbs up!

It's an excellent projector for movies and presentations. It's not the cheapest, but the money is worth. Excellent!

I didn't want to go cheap and I didn't want to go expensive on a projector. This one did the trick! Great price and excellent performance in dark and bright lighting. I have this mounted on a "Epson - Universal Projector Ceiling Mount Kit for Most Projectors - White Model: V12H808001". Also purchased from Best Buy!

Fills wall nicely, using approximately 150" diagonal viewing space, built in speaker is good enough at volume setting 2 or 3 but I will be hooking it up to surround sound anyways. The store associate matched amazon.com sale price and saved me $250 on in store purchase.

I am very pleased with this unit. I initially had concerns that the image would not come through when my basement lights were on. The image is actually very bright and clear even with my pot lights on.

Had this projector for a month now. I use it in my basement, so there is no sunlight to deal with, but I keep all the lights on and the picture is very bright. This unit had the highest lumens rating in its price range. Quality of the image is much better than a flat panel would be at 96 inches. You can hear the fan if you don't have the volume up, but other than that I'm very pleased. Also, the replacement bulbs are $99.

I am building my own DIY Home Theater and hence was on a budget. The Epson Projector caught my eye due to not only its price point but also its reviews and rating. However, being on a budget, I originally cheaped out and got the 740HD (a 720p resolution version of the same Epson projector). While even that was a good product, I was just not getting the oomph on my 112" screen. So I brought the 740HD back to BestBuy and exchanged it for the 1040HD and I have to tell you that I have not been happier. I have had this equpment for a couple of weeks and the image is crystal clear. This is true HD! Like others have said, the fan is a little loud and I worry about the kids leaving the projector on overnight.... To counter that, I have programmed a sleep setting on the projector to be around 10 mins... Auto Keystone adjustment made it a breeze to install and the MHL adapter comes handy... Overall a great buy!

The projector was very easy to hook up and the set up was simple. It has a great picture. The only drawback - it's not 3D

I am very happy with this projector. It works fine and was easy to setup. The image is very sharp and bright. I sure hope this lasts for a while. Also it is good value for the price I paid. It is also lightweight and compact to carry to another location in the home.

This is a very good starter projector and it presents a beautiful 1080p picture if the source is very good. I'm amazed and perplexed that my HD stream from Netflix looks better than my Panasonic Blu-Ray player on the projector. (Any thoughts on that one?) The projector is plenty bright in a room with controlled lighting. I've paired mine with a Dragon Fly 110" High Contrast Grey screen and it takes watching movies to a whole new level. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the iris is very loud. This can be very distracting during quiet scenes. However, I must say that Epson support is very helpful. They instructed me on how to turn the automatic iris off. If you want a solid project without spending the price of a older used car then I recommend that you give this projector a shot.

Overall very satisfied. Great picture quality. Setup is fast and easy and you can hook up pretty much anything to it. The only reason I didn’t not give five stars is because the fan is a bit loud. However, once you turn up the volume it’s barely noticeable especially if you have surround.

I did a lot of research before buying this projector. I am using it in my living room during the day (weekends) and night where I have moderate light coming in windows. I am projecting it on a wall which is a light taupe color and the picture looks great. The contrast (black level) isn't great but I knew that when I bought it. However, most people will not realize that they can not see all the details in the dark areas of the scene unless they are comparing it to a device (HDTV) which has great black levels. I do plan on buying a screen to install in my living room. I also plan on using this to project movies outside. Glad I bought it!
