About this product

The young Egyptian soprano Fatma Said, praised for the luminosity and rich colours of her voice, makes her recording debut for Warner Classics with El Nour. Her enticing and absorbing recital programme crosses cultures, combining art songs by French, Spanish and Egyptian composers with Egyptian folk songs and popular songs from the Middle East. As she explains, Inch'El Nour' in Arabic means 'the light', and this album sheds light on how music that has been interpreted many times can be perceived in a different light. The idea is to connect three cultures - Arabic, French and Spanish - and to show how much, despite cultural, geographical and historical differences, they have in common when it comes to musicInch.

The Autumn Defense - Here And Nowhere - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

After a ten-year break from the studio, The Autumn Defense pick up right where they left off on their long-anticipated sixth album, Here and Nowhere. Infusing the band's breezy, harmony-drenched take on Laurel Canyon with rich orchestration and psychedelic flourishes, the collection is dreamy and impressionistic, full of warm, inviting tunes as beautiful as they are bittersweet. Like much of the group's catalog, it's an album full of mystery and wonder, a rich, open-hearted work that nods to everything from Nick Drake and John Martyn to Carole King and David Crosby as it contemplates the passage of time, reckoning with what we lose, what we gain, and who we become along the way.Founded by core duo John Stirratt and Pat Sansone-and now featuring longtime rhythm section James Haggerty and Greg Wieczorek-The Autumn Defense first took shape in New Orleans, where the band recorded their 2001 debut, The Green Hour. While the group has at times been pigeonholed as a Wilco side project (Stirratt is a founding member, and Sansone joined around the of 2004's A Ghost Is Born), The Autumn Defense's sound has always been decidedly more West Coast than alt-country, drawing comparisons to The Beach Boys, The Byrds, and Love over the course of five critically acclaimed studio albums. NPR hailed the group's Inchtimeless pop songs,Inch while Rolling Stone called their music InchgorgeousInch and Inchdelightful,Inch and the New York Times praised their delivery as Inchwarm and radiant.Inch CD includes bonus track InchRaven Of The Wood.Inch

Fatma Said - Kaleidoscope - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Kaleidoscope - Fatma Said - Warner Classics - InchThroughout my life, since I was very young, dancing has accompanied me everywhere, and I've learned a number of different styles ballroom, Latin, Argentinian tango and more. I've always felt inspired by the physical and internal movement in dancing - whether with a partner or alone - and for me it represents another way of expressing myself. While researching potential repertoire for this album I found myself drawn to songs from a number of very different countries and peoples, all with strong dance elements - sometimes in the words, but invariably in the music. And movement here has a double meaning for me these songs move me emotionally, and they contain the steps and rhythms of dance - many greatly varied kinds of dance - in their expressions of feeling and character. To me those two meanings interlink as one they are the emotional and physical in unison - a single entity. It's hard to imagine music without dance, or dance without music...Inch ??

Cold Diamond & Mink - This Is What Love Looks Like!/This Is What Love Looks Like! (Instru) - 7-INCH SINGLE [7 inch Vinyl Disc]

Prolific soul man Carlton Jumel Smith made a fresh opening into deep vintage soul sounds with his Timmion single debut. Now he's back for more with the dancefloor track InchThis Is What Love Looks LikeInch, paving the road towards his album, which is dropping on Timmion at the beginning of 2019.Think of classic funky soul with a little bit of Chicago, some Tighten Up guitar and blaring horn melodies, and you get an idea, where this energizing groove is headed. Carlton gets going with his soulful testimony, while the A-list of Finnish soul and jazz players from Tuomo Prättälä and Jimi Tenor to Jukka Eskola strengthen the Cold Diamond & Mink band to new heights. If the first single dripped with heartaches and bitterness, this one is a monumental sonic heart emoji instead, seasoned with sweet sunshine. Even though Carlton can play any part the lyric casts him in, the conveyor of positivity suits him well. In real life it's not rare to see the man smiling, and when performing he oozes with peace, love and soul, turning the audience inside out. Here he's laid down one for the dancers!
