About this product
Kaleidoscope - Fatma Said - Warner Classics - InchThroughout my life, since I was very young, dancing has accompanied me everywhere, and I've learned a number of different styles ballroom, Latin, Argentinian tango and more. I've always felt inspired by the physical and internal movement in dancing - whether with a partner or alone - and for me it represents another way of expressing myself. While researching potential repertoire for this album I found myself drawn to songs from a number of very different countries and peoples, all with strong dance elements - sometimes in the words, but invariably in the music. And movement here has a double meaning for me these songs move me emotionally, and they contain the steps and rhythms of dance - many greatly varied kinds of dance - in their expressions of feeling and character. To me those two meanings interlink as one they are the emotional and physical in unison - a single entity. It's hard to imagine music without dance, or dance without music...Inch ??

The young Egyptian soprano Fatma Said, praised for the luminosity and rich colours of her voice, makes her recording debut for Warner Classics with El Nour. Her enticing and absorbing recital programme crosses cultures, combining art songs by French, Spanish and Egyptian composers with Egyptian folk songs and popular songs from the Middle East. As she explains, Inch'El Nour' in Arabic means 'the light', and this album sheds light on how music that has been interpreted many times can be perceived in a different light. The idea is to connect three cultures - Arabic, French and Spanish - and to show how much, despite cultural, geographical and historical differences, they have in common when it comes to musicInch.
