About this product
The New Day- the debutalbum from Flying Norwegians is first truly remarkable country rock album from Norway., it's the first album to be convincingly good in a genre that we believed, until 1974, to solely be the domain of American artists with mud on their boots and whiskey on their person. The band, which was given the self-evident name Flying Norwegians, can be traced back to the end of the 1960s. Rune Walle met Nina Johansen at a People's College outside of Bergen and together they formed Oriental Sunshine. They released one LP in 1970, considered a classic, in which they fuse oriental soundscapes with folk music traditions. Two years later, Walle found himself in another pioneering band Hole in the Wall. This band mixed the sounds of both American rock and country with Norwegian folk music tonality, creating an album considered to be one of the very best to ever have been made in Norway.1. Young Man2. Time's Drawing Circles3. Those Were the Days4. Lucky Number5. New Day6. Behind the Words7. Spanish Tragedy8. Tricky Lies9. Human Need10. You'll Come Around11. It Ain't Just Another Blow

Coconut colour vinyl, 180g. As a somewhat overlooked gem of early 70's ballad rock, Los Angeles-based soft rockers Climax boast some of the biggest breakout hits of their time. Fronted here by the illustrious Sonny Geraci this album features 1972 hit InchPrecious and FewInch amongst a number of other arcane classics. Reissued in original gatefold and pressed on heavyweight cream coloured vinyl.

If indie rock has become, for the most part, an endlessly rotating set of established signifiers in 2009, then Nurses' second album, Apple's Acre, is perfectly at home in it all, skipping amid everything from bits of electronic echo and glitch to clap-along sentiments to cracked-voice ruminations on home and love - and all this within the first song, InchTechnicolor,Inch so if nothing else the band knows how to put all the pieces together from the start. But from there, as with far too many acts in the field, things barely vary - having learned their lessons all too well from acts like the Flaming Lips and the Decemberists, Arcade Fire and Animal Collective, Nurses proceed to provide exactly what is expected of them and what their audience presumably expects. There are big sentiments and big singing, swathes of reverb and senses of vast spaces, twinkling keyboards and crashing bells, an emphasis of treble over bass on all fronts. If there was more to remark on, more that provided an individual stamp, then there would be more to say - but if Nurses are content to be the new Supertramp like so many other of the acts that have come before them, then let them have at it at their leisure. But little surprise if many listeners would tire and look elsewhere.

Wounded Bird by Flying Norwegians is best Norwegian country rock album to ever have been made. An album that is so convincingly good, in every conceivable way, that it was almost released by A&M Records. But it's also an album that serves as a classic example in which everything that can go wrong, does go wrong. And at the worst possible time. The album was released in early 1976. The rest of the year should have been one long victory parade for Flying Norwegians, culminating in a of the album overseas in the United States. Instead, the band and it's fans were witness to a series of InchalmostInch events. Almost a breakthrough, almost record-breaking sales, almost released in the USA and almost nominated for a Spellemann. That last one was a mistake-no one remembered to send the record in for an evaluation, so the best Norwegian rock album of 1976 was not even considered for the award. It's a sad ending, but in some ways, it turned out good for one member of the band Rune Walle.1. Crazy Eyes Go Blind2. Turn the Page3. Taste of Money4. Let's Walk to the River5. Evening Prayer6. Wounded Bird7. Tangles8. It's Over9. Old Lady10. Absolutely Sweet Marie
